It is said Corbyn will today (Thursday) announce how Labour will reform the BBC. If this turns out to be false news then I apologise now.
It is being discussed in the media how one of his /Labours ideas is for the BBC to declare the ' Social Class ' of employees.
If this is even a thought I find that principal very alarming and if true I expect the Labour Party to lead by example and do the same for all employees including the Shadow Cabinet and all MP's.
How do you work out a persons Social Class? By Wealth, Education, Family background?
I would tell somebody requiring that of me to ' Go Forth'.
We will end up like North Korea but instead of cheering and clapping for Kim we will worship out new leader Corbyn ?. It's enough to give you nightmares.
gilly Do you think Hilary Benn and Stephen Kinnock ‘traded on their roles’ as the sons of famous Labour politicians to advance their political careers?
Of course it probably didn't make a fig of difference that Hilary James Wedgewood Benn's father is Tony Benn or that he is the fourth generation of MP's, or that Stephen Kinnock (who describes himself as being from a Labour and Trade Union Family) just happened to fall into the role of MP and had nothing to do with the fact he is the son of Glenys and Neil ?
(I met NK several times and thought he was a really nice, genuine man but that it btw).
I wonder if I am the only one who has stopped doing YouGov surveys?
Elegran's post above is not in the least far-fetched. Look at the way Labour is looking for certain qualities when selecting candidates for the party, and the way many are likely to face deselection because they are not what Momentum want. That is a just a tiny example of 'social grooming' I suppose.
YouGov surveys can without doubt place people according to location, gender, wealth, age, house ownership, income, family circumstances, political allegiance and occupation. They know if you use social media, if you are up to date with technical advances, what programmes you watch, which celebrities you like, the hobbies you have, where you go on holiday and how old your car is. They can easily build dossiers on anyone who takes part. They are certainly categorising everyone.
Big Brother is fast becoming a reality with the spread of fake news, and free speech being questioned on social media and elsewhere if you hold views that don't fit a certain agenda. People are unfairly labelled now depending on which way they voted in the referendum. Most of us can remember the days when you voted (for one of three parties usually) and NO ONE questioned your stance or called you out for 'voting the wrong way'. Your voting preferences weren't even discussed. Now at general elections there are furious keyboard warriors on all sides deciding that people who do not think along their lines are beyond the pale.
Personal freedoms are at stake I think, and now Corbyn wants to YouGov us all.
Jeez elegran I had to read that through a few times to digest it. Scary indeed.
At first it all looks very innocent until.......
Stephen Kinnock is posh ? Wow, born in the same labour ward as my younger daughter - labour as in maternity not
Labour HQ
I am stuck in the cogs of the National Statistics who don't seem to want to leave me alone. It started with a letter followed by another 5-6 almost threatening me if I did not take part. Next came an interview, then another a year later and another and now I can't seem to get rid of them.
Don't twist my words Annie I categorically DID NOT say that Stephen Kinnock is posh !
I believe he is/or has at least been accused of being, a tax dodger though. Sincere apologies to him if I have mis-remembered or gotten him muxed-ip with someone else. Off to google him.
I have rabbited on about the real threat of a Corbyn run communist country for ages, it’s getting closer
He wasn’t a tax dodger gilly.
Well, it’s Corbyn isn’t it....to be expected, An under achieving student from a well off family, becomes a Trot,
A one man protest party who rebels against everything.
The LP, in electing him have started a Greek tragedy.Or an Orwellian nightmare.
www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/denmark/7854836/Lord-Kinnock-son-accused-of-tax-evasion-in-Denmark.html
He was accused Annie and I did not say he was posh !
gilly, his wife was running for the position of PM of Denmark at the time, it’s called politics, you forgot to mention he was cleared of the allegation.
Surely the latest news of the awful situation in Venezuela will ensure that Corbyn's particular brand of Socialism will die, given his well publicised praise for that country's regime?
I said he was accused Annie, which was something to do with being paid in Switzerland and not paying tax in Denmark where it is much higher. I did not say he was convicted of anything but did go on to pay a voluntary amount "to avoid any confusion"
He apparently went to great lengths not to spend a day longer in Denmark with his family than would allow him to get away without paying Danish taxes. There was also a lot of house ownership "jiggling" going on. In other words a huge can of worms and more twists and turns than anyone can keep up with.
He was also accused of hiding his daughters £29,000 private education from the selection committee.
Lets hope so JenniferEccles .
Why do I keep wanting to type "freckles" when I see your name
gilly
Well you would be accurate as I have got them! I'm fair skinned and as the sun pops out, so do the freckles. I was teased so much about them at school.
I give up. The generation that were brought up under what could be described as the biggest social engineering regime in the world want to deny the same rights and opportunities to their children and grandchildren Instead they create imaginary regimes where freedoms are restricted and rights abused. Do you not get it? You are where you are today because you grew up under a socialist system, where your parents and you had free access to healthcare, education, and the opportunity to progress in life. These are now being cut back and we are seeing a return to a society where children are underfed, where the poorest suffer, where ability doesn't count only your parentage and the rich continue to prosper. And you waffle on about how afraid you are of communism and Korean regimes. But then I suppose it's OK for you, you've got what you want, the pity is that you would deny the same opportunities to others. And if you have to spread lies and fantasy to do so then so be it. I just wonder how you sleep at night.
Oh dear, here we go again. These Lefties never stop, do they?
JenniferEccles if you can give me an instance of anyone in this country who hasn't benefitted from left wing policies in the past I will acknowledge that I am wrong but actually the whole basis of today's society is built on those policies and calling people names won't change that. I am proud that I recognise the history of socialism and what it did for me and my family and that I that I wish my children and grandchildren to live in a similar society. The fact that you deny those policies and do not recognise how we reached where we are now doesn't mean it didn't happen, only that you are uninformed or wilfully ignorant. You were raised on welfare orange juice and free milk which was only available because of lefties like me.
trisher Valiant try but you are fighting a losing battle on GN. I think it is because most people even mildly on the left have given up by now because it can get quite unpleasant as you can see.
It is no surprise that the Tory party gets more money from the dead than the living. It does mean that things are finally changing.
I for one would not deny any child the right to better itself. I suggest you speak to their benefit manipulating, work dodging parents, and ask them why they do not put their offspring first.
I for one came from an extremely poor family situation, my Mother drummed it into me from an early age that education is key - and it was and still is.
I have more sympathy for the working poor, who work, their socks off, passing like ships in the night to 2nd jobs, juggling childcare. Then their taxes go to the benefit system, some are obviously in need of benefits, pip etc, and they need our help and should be a priority.
I am fed up with being preached at by the new wave champagne socialist class, and sincerely hope they do not,get into power. Present government are not great, but better than the alternative.
Oh I agree Jaycee5 but I still think it is sometimes worth pointing out the blatantly obvious to some of the old farts who think they are somehow about to be overrun by the proletariat, and reminding them that they would probably be dead, or starving, and certainly not living such a comfortabe life, without the policies they so despise is sometimes necessary. Who knows it might stir the conscience they have buried somewhere under their complacency???
There are left wing policies and far left policies, the latter being communism
GrannyGravy13 I for one came from an extremely poor family situation, my Mother drummed it into me from an early age that education is key - and it was and still is
Thanks for that are due to a socialist government I hope you realise. Or do you imagine that education of the poor was always free and accessible?
But you would deny the working poor proper care and support? Do you not know how many of these people are suffering under this government and are using food banks? Poorly nourished children make slower progress at school and are less likely to acheive academically.
