I don't think it was fair to target his children but they don't really seem like ordinary folk do they?

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 18:01:17

There are no threads with bile directed at Thornberry on here.

trisher Fri 05-Oct-18 18:04:13

FFS No one is reviling JRM because he is posh. I hate his principles, his political beliefs, his ideology and his voting history. If he held such views and had grown up on a council estate I would still hate him. Just as I hate the members of the EDL who are from council housing and those from private schools.
Tony Benn was arguably posher than JRM but was a socialist who believed and supported human right and I loved him. So it's nothing to do with class envy.

jura2 Fri 05-Oct-18 18:22:36

... et voilà - simple.

jura2 Fri 05-Oct-18 18:24:18

who cares if the bile if on this thread, or another? The bile towards Emily indeed, and Jeremy Corbyn- what it the difference between one bile or another???

trisher Fri 05-Oct-18 18:33:13

jura2 Do you not think indignation (or bile if you must) is justified sometimes when people have beliefs which you find abhorrent? And it is the beliefs I hate. The person may or may not be nice, or polite or posh. It really isn't about personalities.
Much of the discussion on GN has consisted of personal remarks about Corbyn. It would be easy to make similar remarks about JRM but really it isn't good political discussion.

PECS Fri 05-Oct-18 18:37:35

With you there Trisher

MaizieD Fri 05-Oct-18 18:38:36

There are no threads with bile directed at Thornberry on here.

You have a defective memory, lemon. It was a few months ago.

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 18:44:21

Tony Benn and JRM both inherited titles from their fathers, both Christian but in later life Benn referred to himself as a Christian agnostic and not a humanist .

Both had/has town houses and country houses .

MaizieD Fri 05-Oct-18 19:56:47

Sorry, Annie. I completely fail to see the relevance of that comment.

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 19:59:28

Maize, trisher said Benn was arguably posher than JRM , no difference

minesaprosecco Fri 05-Oct-18 20:10:30

Very pedantic, Annie.

jura2 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:14:37

Agreed Maizie- totally non-sensical. Is Annie saying Tony Benn was jealous of Jacob's wealth- and therefore 'turned' socialist ???

trisher Fri 05-Oct-18 20:20:59

Annie Benn's dad was a hereditary peer so Benn became a peer. JRM's dad was only a life peer. He didn't get a title Therefore Benn was posher!

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 20:25:54

William Benn was given a peerage to bump up the number of working labour peers in the Lords , not exactly landed gentry

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 20:32:24

Soooo, it’s fine to have a title ( be posh!) and oodles of cash like Benn but not JRM.Nobody said that Benn shouldn't have more than two children or stood outside his house screaming abuse that he was a CND swine did they?
But it’s ok.... he’s an evil Tory. The simplistic views about his
‘Policies’ don’t cut it, he’s a backbencher only, but the way he speaks, dresses, looks, his large country house etc all inspire class hatred in some people.

jura2 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:33:26

so you confirm that 'So it's nothing to do with class envy.' for many people, as some of us have stated. Thanks.

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 20:34:04

You seem to do an awful lot of ‘hating’ trisher.

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 20:34:41

No I don’t jura as usual you misunderstand.

POGS Fri 05-Oct-18 20:43:06

trisher

" lemon do get it right I used Nye's words to criticise members of the Tory party and centrist voters, not individual GN posters. "
--

Weasel words trisher that might fool some !

What you are maintaining post after post with your attempt to say ' Not my words so I can't be held accountable ' is disingenuous. You know perfectly well Gransnet has a diversity of posters from various political leanings including Tories and now you have included ' Centrist' voters as VERMIN and ROAD KILL!.

Quoting somebody else to prove a point , attempt to align with their words is nothing short of saying I agree with what he/she/they said . Given the context of your original post that quoted Bevan you were aligning yourself with his quote.

VERMIN and ROAD KILL is exactly what you feel about Tories and whether they are on GN or not, it is a generalisation. Why b----y bother to mention the quote in the first place in the manner you did if you can't stand by your post.

If you or anybody else accuse those who find your opinion distasteful , that's being polite, of ' pearl clutching ' then you just affirm your intended meaning .

Gransnet at it's worst comes out of the closet every now and again and boy you have set the bar low.

trisher Fri 05-Oct-18 20:52:23

POGS if you would like to discuss why Tories might be regarded as "Vermin" by many (and Nye Bevan in particular) I would be delighted to do so.
I have already posted a good deal about "Road kill" and how for some like the Lib Dems occupying the centre ground has proved the expression.
But you are as usual unable to debate anything in any sort of a reasoned or responsible way, preferring instead to throw about wild accusations. It's a bit sad really.

POGS Fri 05-Oct-18 21:01:56

I am Re posting concerning your VERMIN and ROAD KILL name calling of Tories and Centrists on the correct thread this time trisher.

See you there!

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 21:03:28

Your reply to POGS is the only ‘sad’ thing trisher and confirms to many why the LP has become a Nasty Party.

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 21:05:55

I don’t even particularly like JRM but all the hatred of him on here makes me warm to him really. So much hatred about.sad

trisher Fri 05-Oct-18 21:11:50

Definition of vermin- people who are unpleasant and harmful to society:
Tories are this I believe -after all Mrs Thatcher thought there was no such thing as society
road kill- something that might be killed by vehicles passing in either direction because it s in the middle of the road (like the Lib Dems.)
Once again someone is alleging I am responsible for the Labour Party I am not.

jura2 Fri 05-Oct-18 21:14:05

Contradicting nonsense is indeed hard to understand ;)

oh there is lemon, there is - look at the nasty Labour Party thread- there for all to see.
