Big article and leader in today's Times.
Judges at the European Court have ruled that on grounds of 'privacy' MEPs do not need to justify their expenses.
In addition to their salaries, MEPs are paid €4416 a month in 'general expenditure allowance' "without any obligation to provide invoices, receipts or any accounts on how the money is spent."
In addition to this, they are given a daily tax free 'subsistence allowance' of €313 a day for hotel and living costs when working in Brussels and Strasbourg.
The combined allowances mean that MEPs "can pocket well over €100,000 a year in tax free payments without proving expenditure." That is in addition to their salaries.
I did vote Remain, but while strongly feeling that the EU gravy train needs serious reform.
Evidently it's not going to happen, at least not any time soon.

I really object to the fact that we've contributed. How do we raise objections to it? And to whom?
