The Nasty Labour Party - what they really stand for.

Rod Liddle took Labour to the cleaners on Question Time. I fully agree with his assessment.

“I really wish that the people who were taken in by [Labour] and agreed with that, would look to the left beyond the podium and see the rabble with their Palestinian flags and their lanyards sponsored by Hamas, would look to the raft of hypocrites on the Labour front bench. Thornberry, Abbott, Chakrabarti – all of whom don’t want you to send your kids to private schools or selective schools but do so for their kids, and for Corbyn and McDonnell, who have given support and succour to every possible hostile, violent, anti-democratic terrorist regime or organisation they can. IRA, Hamas, Hezbollah, Soviet Union, Cuba, Venezuela.

If you want people like that running your country, vote for Corbyn.”

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 19:36:10

Absolutely, I would agree with you there Grandad
smile

Grandad1943 Fri 05-Oct-18 19:37:24

Jalima1108, I just responded to your post attacking Ernest Bevin of yesterday with what I feel are the true facts of the situation facing the wartime National Government which Ernest Bevin was a leading member of

If you feel I am incorrect in any part of what I stated just post a response.

Simple as that.

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 19:39:31

What a vile post from the resident sewage worker to Jalima,

Ignore him Jalima , he told me I was a target. To talk of Ernie Bevin having no time for sentiment from a person who called the deaths of 114 children ‘an event ‘

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 19:40:29

My posts about Ernest Bevin were factual, not criticism. confused

Grandad1943 Fri 05-Oct-18 19:49:17

Jalima1108, so, your last statement in that post reading "so much for standing up for the workers" you believe is factual?

In that I would state that it is a very poorly placed opinion

oldbatty Fri 05-Oct-18 19:50:00

I am searching for an abusive post. Where is it please?

Chewbacca Fri 05-Oct-18 19:52:10

:So, Jalima1108 your criticism of Ernest Bevin is entirely unjustified, unless with your right^
wing views you would in your youth preferred to witnesses the Swastika flying over
Whitehall in London

I don't often comment on the bun fight threads because they're usually full of the usual parrying of insults but the comment I've italicized is a new nadir, even for the politics threads. Grandad when did it become acceptable to ask someone if they'd have preferred a swastika to fly in Britain? Are you really so uneducated that you don't know what you've said? Do you have any concept how unacceptable that question is, especially as you have no idea whether Jalima is Jewish or not? You shameful man.

MaizieD Fri 05-Oct-18 19:54:14

One of my lecturers many many years ago quoted "Where you stand (i.e your stance on an issue) depends on where you sit" (i.e what 'side' you're on).

I think you're sitting in the wrong place oldbatty wink

Certainly this thread has an abusive title...

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 19:54:56

www.theforgottenconscript.co.uk/who-were-the-bevin-boys/

Perhaps if you read the memoirs of one of the Forgotten Conscripts it could enlighten you Grandad.
They were not well treated and, unlike those conscripted into the Armed Forces, were unable to return to their previous employment post-war, nor did they receive recognition for their services to the country.

so much for standing up for the workers
Perhaps you have never met any Bevin Boys Grandad

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 19:56:29

Thank you Chewbacca and Anniebach

You shameful man.
Shameful indeed.

Grandad1943 Fri 05-Oct-18 19:57:25

oldbatty, anniebach just placed one above.

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 19:57:41

I did Jalima

Grandad1943 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:07:34

Jalima1108, Chewbacca, anniebach, the one thing that is certain in any war would be that sorrow will be the largest feature of its outcome.

In that, governments will always be prominent in bringing about that sorrow. However, in 1940 the British government had to make those decisions for the survival of this nation.

Awful but very necessary.

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:13:04

Please, Grandad do not speak to me about the sorrows of war.
Your slur still stands and I would like an apology.

jura2 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:16:56

The Title was indeed abusive and totally wrong from the start. How can anything be debated sensibly, with a title like that to start with?

Chewbacca Fri 05-Oct-18 20:17:59

Grandad what strong and emotive words you write.... But what the hell has that got to do with you asking someone, who could be Jewish, if they would have like to see a swastika flying in Britain?
And please don't deign to try and teach me about the necessities in 1940s Britain. You have no idea of my background at all.

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:18:29

It can though jura - as long as posters do not make personal attacks and discuss politics and politicians.

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 20:21:53

We learn something new every day, war brings sorrow, who would have thought that

lemongrove Fri 05-Oct-18 20:23:41

Oldbatty says ( with both eyes closed) ‘I am searching for an abusive post’
Well, start with the one from Grandad43 asking Jalima if
‘With her right wing views she would have preferred to see a swastika flying over Westminster’ ?
Posts don’t come much more abusive than that.Unbelievable.
The nasty party indeed Monica and I echo your
comments.
A low even for the political pages of GN.
This goes beyond some verbal sparring and banter and if you left wing posters cannot see it then that speaks volumes.

Anniebach Fri 05-Oct-18 20:27:27

None so blind as those who do not wish to see lemon.

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:30:06

Well, it would be hilarious if it wasn't so abusive.

Ridiculous nonetheless.
However, why worry, I am just one of the 'road kill' party apparently.

Grandad1943 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:30:07

Jalima1108, there will be no apology. I merely asked you a question on a matter that you raised on this forum.

You criticised the actions of what was without a doubt in my estimation and the estimation of many others the greatest wartime government this nation has ever had.

I found that criticism highly offensive being that my family was bombed out of their home in 1941. That government and council despite all the pressure of wartime Britain got my mother rehoused in 1943.

And by the way, my father who was taken off the beach at Dunkirk and then went on like many others to fight in North Africa and Dday had Jewish ancestry in his family.

So, we all have things in our background to be offended about.

jura2 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:31:33

Are you really saying Jalima, that politics should not be discussed on political threads? Really?

lemong spot on : This goes beyond some verbal sparring and banter and if you right wing posters cannot see it then that speaks volumes. Who chose the term 'nasty party? a left wing poster- really?

oldbatty Fri 05-Oct-18 20:33:08

lemon , once again , you are deeply unpleasant and sarcastic.

Why? I haven't got my eyes closed. I just didn't see any abuse of an individual.

Jalima1108 Fri 05-Oct-18 20:34:03

I have absolutely no idea why I deserved all that vitriol and untrue accusations thrown at me, but I expect it was that I agreed with another poster that you had spelt Bevin wrongly which upset you in the first place.

You obviously have no intention of reading the link from the Bevin Boy.
