There is a shortage of midwives in Germany too, here where they are often self employed and required to pay out for an expensive insurance.
I heard to day that the EU will not meet with Mrs May in November if she does not change her present strategy.

jura2 Tue 16-Oct-18 21:49:46

There is a shortage of midwives, nurses and doctors everywhere. They will go where they are welcome, well treated and well paid, and with good conditions.

Smileless2012 Tue 16-Oct-18 21:53:27

If you think it was a dreadful and insensitive thing to say jura then why the hell did you ask if I am like Johnson senior?

lemongrove Tue 16-Oct-18 21:54:44

Oh, so they aren’t wanted welcomed or well paid in Germany then jura ?
There are many reasons that nursing staff fluctuates, not all revolves around Brexit.

MawBroon Tue 16-Oct-18 21:55:13

There is a level of surreality to this exchange of views!

lemongrove Tue 16-Oct-18 21:56:02

grin

jura2 Tue 16-Oct-18 22:06:44

Smileless, I did not say you are- I asked?

Yes, they are much better paid in Germany, and have better conditions. And still they have a shortage... there is not much chance the UK will be attract more midwives, nurses and doctors- as they are leaving in large numbers. The very point.

Chewbacca Tue 16-Oct-18 22:08:16

Like being on the magic roundabout Maw. Round and round and round......

" Or are you like Johnson Senior, and say as he did today, that the Irish and the Unionists can start shooting each other again- if they so wish- and we should ignore it."
--

Stanley Johnson actually said :-

" She would have said ‘look if the Irish want to shoot each other they will shoot each other whether there’s a hard border or whether there is a soft border, that is something the Irish will do if they want to’.”

Wasn't he answering a question ?

I take his meaning to be whether or not there is a hard or soft border that won't stop those Irish men / women who are presupposed to terrorism from using weapons. I think he has a point.

What your post is doing is ' misquoting' as I see it and when you state " he said can start shooting each other again- if they so wish- and we should ignore it." can you show him making that quote please because you have distorted his words as I see it in a defamatory manner.

I am happy to be proven wrong but I cannot read or hear those words coming from his mouth they appear to be your choice of wording. As I say I am happy to be proven wrong.

MawBroon Tue 16-Oct-18 22:15:52

Thank you POGS for * accurately quoting Stanley Johnson.
You can see why I am finding this all surreal.

lemongrove Tue 16-Oct-18 22:22:33

Probably time this thread took it’s tablets and retired, isn’t it?

MawBroon Tue 16-Oct-18 22:28:56

It has strayed so far from any sort or reasoned argument. Misquotation to the point of “fake news”, (deliberate) misunderstanding, going off at tangents, non sequiturs, obfuscation and overreaction do not make the arguments easy to follow. And less credible sometimes.

POGS Tue 16-Oct-18 22:32:42

MawB

I hope I am correct but I am ready to be corrected by jura .

It would be unfair to make such a quote/statement if it were untrue so it needs to be understood one way or tuther if he did say what jura has stated.

Indeed Maw, our friend lemon is the master of obfuscation and deliberate misunderstanding. I shall now take my tablets as advised by her and I am also taking a few days off from GN.

MawBroon Tue 16-Oct-18 22:38:50

Compare the above with this
Or are you like Johnson Senior, and say as he did today, that the Irish and the Unionists can start shooting each other again- if they so wish- and we should ignore it

MawBroon Tue 16-Oct-18 22:44:02

Sadly the thread like any and about the Referendum or Brexit devolves into an Animal Farm type rhetoric of “Four legs good, two legs bad” regardless of actual opinions expressed.
Not a lot of point saying anything because some poster has decided without any evidence, that one belongs to one of the two camps, therefore one’s opinions are ill educated or biased.

MawBroon Tue 16-Oct-18 22:44:40

“Any and all”

Chewbacca Tue 16-Oct-18 22:46:58

To be fair, it's isn't the first time that fake news has been given as gospel by juraon this thread. It's only 2 days ago that we were told that the epipen shortage was because of Brexit, which was immediately disproved too.

It really doesn't do any of us any good, to be quoting information to others, that is not absolutely accurate and true. It simply diminishes the integrity of the discussion and there's enough mis information going around without it being exacerbated here.

MaizieD Tue 16-Oct-18 23:14:06

I take his meaning to be whether or not there is a hard or soft border that won't stop those Irish men / women who are presupposed to terrorism from using weapons. I think he has a point.

I think he is a daft old man and I can see where his son gets it from now. What the hell does he think the GFA has been doing for the last 20 years?

POGS Wed 17-Oct-18 00:19:42

Maizie d

So you think a border stops terrorism?

MaizieD Wed 17-Oct-18 00:39:52

You do know what 'The Troubles' were about, don't you POGS ? You do understand what the significance is of no border in the island of Ireland and the very key part the removal of the 'hard' border played in achieving the GFA?

Please don't ask me silly questions

And perhaps you should read Patrick Kielty's message on the Irish border thread.

Elegran Wed 17-Oct-18 08:42:30

Johnson Senior probably is a daft old man, and should shut his geggie, but if you are going to quote him in inverted commas, then at least do it accurately.

Apparently he said When asked how Mrs Thatcher would have fixed the issue, he continued: "She would have said, 'Look, if the Irish want to shoot each other they will shoot each other whether there is a hard border or whether there is a soft border, that is something the Irish will do if they want to do it'.
He said: "She would have said it is quite intolerable that this whole question of a Northern Ireland border has come to dominate a decision about the future of our country."

Elegran Wed 17-Oct-18 08:44:53

And just why was anyone asking him questions about government policy anyway? Who made him a spokesman for any party?
