just a bit of 'mithering' here:

Futurelearn has just sent me one of their regular and frequent emails with information about free courses about to start. One of them is The NHS Explained: How the Health System in England Really Works a four-week free online course requiring two hours per week. "This course will help you understand what keeps the fifth largest employer in the world running. You’ll explore current and future challenges facing the NHS, and the ways in which we can tackle these challenges to ensure a system fit for the future."

I pass it on in case anyone on this thread with an interest in the NHS would like to have a look at it.

^Perhaps, and in fact for sure, those who voted for Brexit were not fully aware of such consequences. Not surprisingly, as no information was given.
But now, we do know - and we should fight for a second vote, and people should vote with the facts.
Or are you like Johnson Senior, and say as he did today, that the Irish and the Unionists can start shooting each other again- if they so wish- and we should ignore it^

Ahem! confusedconfusedNo link there.

I linked to the video last night at 10.36 but in fact after others had already pointed out your isrresentation of the facts by twisting of the quotation. Do you live in some fantasy world or parallel universe? Speechless!

No comment was made about your DH’s nationality.
I did wonder about alternation Swiss and U.K. passportswhen convenient though.

10.08.39 was in response to Elegran's post just before:

'I agree, it would have been better. But the link to the video was posted for all to see and make their own mind up. To my mind, his demeanour makes it clear he agrees- and also he did not quote Mrs Thatcher, HE CHOSE the words- and clearly agreed with them.'

<sigh>
Much ado about nothing.
Chinese whispers are extremely dangerous as is not being prepared to put your hand up and admit “I got it wrong, sorry”.

Lazigirl Wed 17-Oct-18 13:33:15

Thanks for your link Elegran. Interesting courses.

lemongrove Wed 17-Oct-18 13:34:49

Who cares what Stanley says, I mean really ! But if you do, at least get the quote right.
Yes, he was a Remainer though some posters didn’t realise that fact.

jura2 Wed 17-Oct-18 13:36:31

Play with words 'it would have been better' will have to do for now, and I'll happily add 'sorry'. The video however made his position quite clear - he was the one who was Chinese whispering, as those words were not, and would never have, been said by Mrs Thatcher. Like her or not, she had a good brain and some statemanship.

Top health chiefsadto the official Brexit Committee) : * Brexit worries over medical supplies keep me awake at night*

MaizieD Wed 17-Oct-18 16:03:07

Yes, he was a Remainer though some posters didn’t realise that fact

What on earth does him being a Remainer have to do with him saying something deeply rather unpleasant about the Irish?

jura2 Wed 17-Oct-18 16:21:06

Makes no difference whatsoever- putting those words in Mrs T's mouth was inexcusable and very offensive.

MawBroon Wed 17-Oct-18 16:40:03

And repeating them ....to get a reaction hmm

Chewbacca Wed 17-Oct-18 16:40:30

Makes no difference whatsoever- putting those words in Mrs T's mouth was inexcusable and very offensive.

But you put words in Stanley Johnson's mouth, that had never been said and you think that's ok! What dual standards is that! Really jura, I've said it before, and I'll say it again, to garner support for your way of thinking and to encourage people to see what you're trying to tell them; you ave to be scrupulously accurate with the facts that you're presenting as evidence. Just making things up; twisting them into something that just provides confirmation bias for your opinion, is completely and totally wrong and you will keep getting caught out on it. And you just keep on doing it. sigh

jura2 Wed 17-Oct-18 17:33:47

Yes, Chewbacca, he said them, and it wasn't hers.

lemongrove Wed 17-Oct-18 17:36:38

Hear hear Chewbacca ??

petra Wed 17-Oct-18 17:37:32

Perhaps something gets lost in translation grin

Chewbacca Wed 17-Oct-18 17:38:05

Have it your own way jura, but you'll have only yourself to blame when you get picked up, again for repeatedly making the same mistakes.

petra Wed 17-Oct-18 17:46:15

mistakes
I think your being too kind Chewbacca

Chewbacca Wed 17-Oct-18 18:25:57

Probably petra, but I hate to see anyone who is so committed to a cause make a fool of themselves, over and over again, and alienate people in the process. And thats exactly what jura keeps on doing.

jura2 Wed 17-Oct-18 19:13:43

Don't worry about me. I made ONE big mistake today- was picked up on it- put my hands up and apologised as soon as I realised.

His words were not Mrs Thatcher's, they were his.

Smileless2012 Wed 17-Oct-18 20:12:00

You also made ONE big mistake yesterday jura in your post of 21.02 when you asked me if I was like Johnson senior, when you mis quoted him regarding the Irish and I am still waiting for your apology.

jura2 Wed 17-Oct-18 21:13:50

I asked, I did not state.

POGS Thu 18-Oct-18 00:02:18

jura

I think you are digging a bigger hole for yourself and you have a cheek to ' misquote ' or tell a fabricated version of what a person says to either pursue your own agenda or to be malicious towards another by twisting their words.

You have a bare faced front to say:-

" But HE clearly CHOSE to put those words in her mouth- he was not quoting. He said it, because if you watch the video, it was clearly what HE was thinking."

Irony or what? You CHOSE to put those words into Stanley Johnsons mouth as it was clearly what YOU were thinking. It was an untruth.

As for :-

" Makes no difference whatsoever- putting those words in Mrs T's mouth was inexcusable and very offensive."

That is exactly the point posters are making of your actions when you ' twisted' , ' distorted ' and shifted the context of what Stanley Johnson ' actually' said.

I did watch the video and it only confirms your link and post of Tues 21.02 did not report factually what he said. He did not say as you stated " Or are you like Johnson Senior, and say as he did today, that the Irish and the Unionists can start shooting each other again- if they so wish- and we should ignore it. ".

I hold no truck for fake news or manipulating what people say and I apologise to nobody for pointing it out.

MaizieD Thu 18-Oct-18 08:32:57

As a bunch of pearl clutchers who can read 'insult' into the most innocuous of statements I think there is a measure of hypocrisy evident in this concerted attack on jura (which isn't just confined to one thread, either)

I have read the supposedly accurate ('supposedly' because those who posted them assert that they are accurate and I have no reason to disbelieve them) transcripts of Johnson senior's words and the message I take from them is this:

1) The Irish are going to shoot each other whatever happens
2) In which case it doesn't matter what the border is like

The unspoken message this conveys to me is that we should just impose whatever border we like, wherever we like, without bothering about feelings and possible reactions of the Irish.

Which is not a million miles from jura's initial interpretation.

What particularly appalls me about this 'spat' is that no-one seems to object to what Johnson snr. said. Had a Gnetter said that in a post I think they would have been (rightly) jumped on from a great height.

Grandad1943 Thu 18-Oct-18 08:48:46

Well said MaizieD. Right on the the knuckle with the above post.
