I have just watched this Iceland advert on Utube -Youtu.be/Jdpsp11W12o.

I would rather have this screened than some of the other tacky and twee Christmas adverts which have already started.

Do you wise gransnetters on here think it has been banned because it is true and an uncomfortable watch for all big business out there who would rather just continue to sell us stuff that we do not need, whilst destroying this beautiful planet and its amazing wildlife at the same time.

I heard it on the radio and loved it I love a message to educate those that don’t think
I shall shop as much as I can at Iceland and now we know we live in a dictatorship when they can ban adverts that tell the truth

I think it's marvellous! I'll share it on fb!

tanith Fri 09-Nov-18 12:27:43

I’ve just shared it on FB hopefully with everyone sharing it it will make many people think .

The Iceland palm oil pledge only relates to their own brand products. The company will still be selling products which do contain palm oil.

Iceland will have made and will make a lot of money selling branded chocolate for Halloween and Christmas - chocolate which contains conflict palm oil.

The pledge is step in the right direction but until they take all palm oil products off their shelves they lay themselves open to criticism.

I think it's excellent and deserves wider viewing. It might have backfired on those wishing it banned if people like us do more shopping in Iceland. It's not a store I frequent but I shall from now on and I shall write and tell them why.

Have just shared with my gym girls - and they realised that the coffee whitener (a very well known "powdered creamer") used at our gym 3rd ingredient is Palm Oil, we shall now have black coffee or proper milk only!!!!

All are going to share on their social media!!

Yep GrannyGravy13 and there it is on the Iceland shelves.

It’s not just the amount that is spent. It’s what it’s spent on.
This ad is excellent.
Banning palm oil is fantastic.

PamelaJ1 Fri 09-Nov-18 12:55:14

Delibes I Missed your thread. So I’ll still have to read the labels in Iceland.
Oh well, it’s a start.

Anniebach Fri 09-Nov-18 13:02:59

Is it not it has been banned because it is connected with Greenpeace which is a registered charity? Wish Greenpeace could run it in their name

I’ve always l8ked Iceland, now I know why ?

maryeliza54 Fri 09-Nov-18 13:34:07

Shock, horror, Iceland is not perfect so anything they do to try and help is open to criticism. Well that would shut many of us up woudn’t it ?

Chewbacca Fri 09-Nov-18 13:36:15

Eh? confused

GrannyGravy13 Fri 09-Nov-18 13:42:03

If we all try to do our bit by trying to avoid products containing palm oil surely these big corporations will have to change their behaviour, especially if it hits them where it hurts - THEIR BALANCE SHEETS

Seakay Fri 09-Nov-18 13:56:57

I don't see how this can be called political - we've just been told that there are 12 years to act before the destruction of the earth is unavoidable, and illegal logging is hardly a disputed fact. The thing that is really difficult is finding products with sustainable palm oil - look for RSPO or Green Palm - because everything seems to have the non-sustainable sort, even peanut butter! I cannot help but feel that the advert has been suppressed after pressure form multinationals who are responsible for the destruction and don't want their profits affected

maryeliza54 Fri 09-Nov-18 14:02:52

You may well be right Seakay

sodapop Fri 09-Nov-18 14:18:49

Yes I think that's right too Seakay. Disgraceful ban.

Squiffy Fri 09-Nov-18 14:24:59

Change.org has set up a petition to reverse the ban.

BBbevan Fri 09-Nov-18 15:24:13

Spot on ,I would say

Izabella Fri 09-Nov-18 15:30:16

It's a shame that destroying the planet is deemed too political to be highlighted. I've shared it on FB. Would love to see it go viral.
