I have just watched this Iceland advert on Utube -Youtu.be/Jdpsp11W12o.

I would rather have this screened than some of the other tacky and twee Christmas adverts which have already started.

Do you wise gransnetters on here think it has been banned because it is true and an uncomfortable watch for all big business out there who would rather just continue to sell us stuff that we do not need, whilst destroying this beautiful planet and its amazing wildlife at the same time.

Just shared on fb.

If you express any desire to waste less at Christmas, you are practically lynched by most people.

i think it should be shown its very hard hitting but truthful something needs to be done now before its too late its a very simply made but powerful advert well done to iceland

Do you have a link to the petition Izabella ?

Gonegirl Fri 09-Nov-18 16:34:07

Yes. I think it has been banned because so many big business food manufacturers use palm oil in their products and it is destroying so much forest environment. Good for Iceland. They have promised to not use palm oil in any of their own label products by the end of next year too. No one has any right to ban that advert.

Thank you for posting this Grannygravy.

BBbevan Fri 09-Nov-18 16:36:56

This may answer your question BBbevan

Just go to change.org and put Iceland advert banned in their spy glass bar (no idea what it is called, I have already admitted to being a technophobe) and it brings up the petition.

Delibes Fri 09-Nov-18 16:48:20

This is the legislation which the advertisement is falling foul of:

Here's the link to the Change.org petition:

SueDonim Fri 09-Nov-18 17:35:56

It's an own-goal by whoever banned it. I would almost certainly not have seen the advert but for the ban and of course we're all talking about it!

BlueBelle Fri 09-Nov-18 17:43:27

Thanks Squiffy and anyone else Signed it now

gillybob Fri 09-Nov-18 17:49:04

I’ve signed it too . Thank you squiffy. Yes they’ve really shot themselves in the foot by banning it haven’t they SueDonim ?

mcem Fri 09-Nov-18 17:49:33

Signed. Until I read the OP I was unaware of this so thank you for flagging it up.
I too will make a point of visiting Iceland (which I don't often do.)

Telly Fri 09-Nov-18 18:35:06

Brilliant ad. About time big business faced up to the destruction it is causing. We can live without palm oil.

Jalima1108 Fri 09-Nov-18 18:45:40

Funnily enough, I was going to buy some ready rolled pastry in Waitrose this morning (lazy, yes, but I am pressed for time) and read the ingredients.
One was 'palm oil' - I put it back on the shelf.
Partly because of the ecological disaster and partly because I don't want to eat it.

It is in so many goods and if this advert makes people more aware of how widespread its use is and how it is destroying these forests that is an excellent thing.

Iceland and this cause have probably received more publicity from the ban than they would have done otherwise.

Shared and signed.

Is anyone else having problems donating.
Had to keep trying and trying. Then it accepted my details then it said there was an error.
Check the bank a/c I suppose ?

petra Fri 09-Nov-18 19:43:10

The food lobby is the most powerful in the uk.
That says it all. Green peace is considered a political organisation so therefore, so is the advert.
How wonderful that so many are going to hit them where it hurts, at the tills ?

annodomini Fri 09-Nov-18 19:53:47

It's time they redefined 'political'. Surely the cause of the environment and survival of the species at risk from the proliferation of the palm plantations should transcend mere politics.

LittlePinkPiggy Fri 09-Nov-18 20:08:58

Just shared it with everyone on my WhatsApp account. I don't buy for many folk at Christmas but a few years ago our family set a £10.00 max spend per person.

mcem Fri 09-Nov-18 21:00:20

Went back to the site to check how signatures were notching up and was disappointed to see there was a total of 4 petitions. The one whose link we followed has well over 100 000 while the others have no more than 60 each. Couldn't see a way to request that they should be amalgamated.
Any suggestions?

Loved this advertisement when I first saw it. So beautifully done and represents the reality of consumerism. Am I wrong, or wasn't this first broadcast last year ?

Jalima1108 Fri 09-Nov-18 21:06:56

which one has the most mcem?
