MP Anna Soubry has criticised the police for failing to intervene after she was verbally abused by protesters outside Parliament.
The Conservative ex-minister was accused "of being a Nazi", while being interviewed on the BBC News channel.
She called for the protesters, who were wearing yellow vests, to be prosecuted under public order legislation.
Commons Speaker John Bercow said he was worried about a "pattern" of women MPs and journalists being targeted.
Raising the issue in the House of Commons, Labour's Mary Creagh said the "really vile, misogynistic thuggery" that had been seen was not an isolated incident.
She accused far-right groups of re-playing Monday's clip and others like it on social media sites to "raise revenue for their trolling activities".
Ms Soubry, the pro-European MP for Broxtowe who supports another Brexit referendum, was subjected to verbal abuse while being interviewed by the BBC's Simon McCoy.

Cut police budgets and reap the rewards ...
Esmerelda there were two policemen in full view of the fracas who did nothing
This was unacceptable and the police should have stepped in.
Aren't they Rent a Mob.They really should re read their history books, if they ever read one in the first place
Let’s not blame one section, there was the verbal attacks on JRM, the threats of rape against female MP’s, a female MP had to have protection attending the Labour Party conference . By claiming one side only is at fault we are excusing / defending the other side.
It is wrong regardless of sides , youngsters are learning threats and verbal abuse are acceptable, they are not.
Nobody deserves this while doing their job and the people responsible should be imprisoned
There is absolutely no comparison between the behaviour of the pro and anti brexit supporters. As far as I know JRM was insuted by one silly old man when he paraded his children for the media. These 100 strong mobs of brexit thugs are violent dangerous ignorant louts, whose behaviour is encouraged by the right wing tabloids with their talk of "treachery" and "bertrayal".
In the same way those who excuse lies told by the leave campaign claim that the remain campaign also told lies, citing Osborne's warning that there would be grave financial repercussions if leave won the referendum. Since then the manifold lies and cheating of the leavers has been exposed, yet they are still allowed to get away with it.
And the police stood by and let it happen? Heaven help us if they've started to turn into Snowflakes!
To me these looked like a gang of louts and yobs trying to intimidate a female MP. It is disgraceful and should be condemned. This is not what's meant by 'freedom of speech' surely.
The police who were there should be reprimanded for failing to act.
Even if it was 'just words' it was nasty intimidation and surely a breach of the peace too?
By not taking action they somehow give the impression that this type of behaviour is acceptable.
Oddly enough it was the people shouting about her being a nazi who acted and sounded more like nazis. If one is allowed to use that word about anyone any more...
I have no political allegiance to the MP concerned but I think the behaviour displayed was intolerable in a civil society. Unfortunately the people that called for a referendum were able to walk away and now we have an even more divided society which I imagine is only going to get worse.
I find Anna Soubry an extremely tiresome woman, as do some MPs on both sides of the house. That does not excuse the increasingly threatening behaviour to which she and other politicians are subjected on an almost daily basis.
Equally, I am tired of the constant noisy chanting by groups of EU supporters on College Green as they attempt to drown out politicians being interviewed by the press; potentially not so serious but extremely annoying.
Attempt to stop either of the above, and it provokes claims of suppression of free speech.
varian you are excusing a verbal attack because it was a Tory MP, there is no excuse be it one person or 100, it is wrong.
Perhaps if everyone had accepted the democratic result of the referendum and MPs had enacted the wish of the majority then all this disgusting behaviour would have been avoided.
Totally agree Mawbroon, Bercow should look to his own actions. Saw a pic of Anna S being surrounded by a group of jeering men as she was walking back into parliament. Disgraceful! What 'brave' chaps surrounding and trying to intimidate a lone woman. Why didn't the police intervene?Yes, you should be able to challenge anyone's views but this was bullying and abusive actions taken by a group of yobs.
Anna Soubry is a Tory MP as well.
There were police standing in the doorway to help her into the building, why didn’t they move out of the doorway and order the mob to clear off.
There was very little publicity when George Galloway was badly assaulted and hospitalised when leaving the BBC. He had been on the panel of Any Questions. His assailant was charged and had a prison sentence. When he was in parliament as an MP he never voted for cuts to our police forces. Have a peep at Mrs Soubry's voting record. Just saying....
It was disgraceful behaviour, not matter what your political leaning or EU stance. It was noticeable that it was a relatively small group of males. I don't suppose for one moment they have the mental capacity to consider the pros or cons of Brexit, they are leaping on a bandwagon so they think they have an excuse for intimidatory behaviour.
The saddest thing for me is that the police did nothing when she was surrounded. It is one thing to listen to thugs from a distance spewing their hatred, another thing entirely when they are in her face.
Arguably this is the direct result of having politicians only available for meetings with carefully selected people.Meetings used to be places where politicians could be heckled, such things no longer happen, but it is posssible to get a point of view publicised by shouting or demonstrating as an MP is interviewed by the media.
The BBC is biased - where are the docu-dramas giving a view from the Leave vote?
Almost all pseudo intellectual 'celebs' and 'lovies', all avid social media users, are in thrall to the Remain vote.
Almost all our MPs were Remain voters.
The Government itself was almost totally in favour of remaining in the EU- so much so that it used taxepayers money to print and send Pro-Remain leaflets to every household in the UK.
Given all this the ordinary British voter saw through scare stories broadcast by the Remain supporters - emergency budget-no planes going to Europe-etc.etc.etc. -
If the vote had returned a Remain result we would never have heard a peep about a ‘divided country', all would have been sweetness and light - the establishment would be in contol again, the political elite’s career path would have been left undisturbed, MP-LORDS-EU beaurocrat. All would be well with the world.
But, they made the mistake of asking US, they don’t do that very often. We spook, we understood, we want to leave.
Is it not possible for the TV and press to have their interview suits indoors or inside trucks or something? To create a) some noise barrier and b) somewhere humanely warm for their interviewers and technicians to work
Cos mostly those shouters are encouraged to be there by the knowledge they will be seen and heard on TV. If they didn't have that audience then they might ease off a bit.
