Breaking news on all media-what has he done?

EllanVannin Thu 24-Jan-19 10:19:21

Nobody knows what he's been arrested for.

Anniebach Thu 24-Jan-19 10:20:41

Just heard it on the news , seems a blackout on the charge/charges ?

rascal Thu 24-Jan-19 10:25:03

Good!

Granny23 Thu 24-Jan-19 10:25:06

My feeds are telling me that he has been charged with 'Contempt of Court'

maxdecatt Thu 24-Jan-19 10:27:14

He was accuserd of sexual harassment, the Scottish government investigated him in a way that was illegal. He took them to court and won. This arrest is to do with the actual complaint made against him. It was another of the "Me too" movement of mob rule by husteria, where guilt is presumed through the media and the police, trying to be PC, take action before they investigate.

Katek Thu 24-Jan-19 10:31:03

Sure more information will emerge as day goes on. It looks as if he’s been kept in custody to appear in court later today. Serious stuff

Jane10 Thu 24-Jan-19 10:32:59

The police have been investigating him. This was before his case against the Scottish Govt procedure that he took them to court for.
There are several instances of his behaviour towards women being being unacceptable. I'm glad that the women who initially were brave enough to complain about him have been listened to. In another instance the management at Edinburgh airport will not let female staff accompany him in VIP corridors. That says something. #himtoo?!

Kalu Thu 24-Jan-19 10:47:13

What is it with some men when given a little power think any woman is fair game, unable to resist their charms?
Does their brain suddenly move down to their underpants making them think they are invincible? Yuck!

paddyann Thu 24-Jan-19 11:05:21

Its all very convenient isn't it? Gets him out of the way in case of a second Independence referendum.I have met Alex and a less sleazy man would be hard to come across...and everyone I have asked has said the same.Yes he'll cuddle folk...and that included young and old but there has never, in the long career he has had, been any hint of impropriety .
Of course the Unionists amongst us are rubbing their hands in glee.....can we ask them to find out what happened to the lists of proven sex pests of the tory persuasion LOST by Mrs M....or is she hanging onto to THOSE as a way of manipulating her minions? I wont be back on this thread .

Katek Thu 24-Jan-19 11:17:06

I too have met Alex on many occasions paddyann and have appeared on the same stage as him. I’m not prejudging anything or anyone and I’m certainly not buying into a conspiracy. Unionist bashing theory.

I will await the outcome of due process

Anja Thu 24-Jan-19 11:17:09

Kalu and why do some old ladies think vulgarity, poorly disguised as plain speaking, is allowable due simply to their advanced years I wonder?

eazybee Thu 24-Jan-19 11:18:58

Paddyann I wont be back on this thread .
Good.

Anniebach Thu 24-Jan-19 11:27:08

Surely Paddyanne doesn’t think Scotland’s courts are corrupt

Granny23 Thu 24-Jan-19 11:43:24

It is plain that trial by Unionist Media has already condemned AS as the worst kind of serial sex offender.

Jane10 states that "There are several instances of his behaviour towards women being being unacceptable."

Well no, in reality "there are several alleged instances"

I will be the first to condemn him if any of these allegations are ultimately proved to be true. Not least because if true, he will have personally deceived me and my close female friends (who cannot believe he is capable of this type of behaviour) and caused damage to our Party and the Independence Cause.

Jabberwok Thu 24-Jan-19 11:59:44

I find it hard to believe, but then I did with Rolf Harris! confused

Jane10 Thu 24-Jan-19 12:17:33

I don't see any unionist conspiracy plots here. Its a helpful way for SNP fans to deal with disappointment of course.
Just too easy to take pot shots at Salmond but I won't as I know that several posters are distressed about it all.

Katek Thu 24-Jan-19 12:41:35

In a nutshell political affiliation and referendum debates don’t matter in this. If he’s innocent, he’s innocent, if he’s guilty, he’s guilty. As usual everything descends into a slanging match where No voters are called traitors and Yes voters act as though they’re exalted. It’s nothing to do with independence and entirely to do with the sexual assault of two women, OR the innocence of a falsely accused man.

(Taken from FB post but says it all admirably)

Jane10 Thu 24-Jan-19 12:50:53

I agree Katek. Well put.

Kalu Thu 24-Jan-19 13:25:25

Another Yuck from me Anja. Whoever it is, whatever the age, I wouldn’t take that into account if I had to deal with any sleazy innuendos. ?Plain speaking....mostly only when it suits the plain speaker, in my experience anyway.

Re Alex Salmond, I know nothing about the alleged claims against him so will wait for factual proof one way or another.

Something I do not agree with though is, someone who is alleged of a crime having their name tainted all over the media. Too many innocent people have had their lives ruined with this practice.

Jalima1108 Thu 24-Jan-19 14:03:45

I presume that those are the charges against him, but he's innocent until proved guilty.

I agree with Kalu's last sentence.

Jalima1108 Thu 24-Jan-19 14:08:15

I have met Alex and a less sleazy man would be hard to come across
That is hardly a defence.

Personally I dislike the man but he is entitled not to be judged except in a court of law.

Caledonai14 Thu 24-Jan-19 14:32:59

Everyone needs to be very careful about comment here. In all directions.
Scottish Law has many more protections for accused and accuser once a charge has been made. It's to do with ensuring a fair trial or hearing and with prospective jurors not being prejudiced or witnesses being influenced (and is also the reason why some trials are held in places remote from where the alleged offence took place).
Initial court appearances are often held "in camera", or in private, to allow the police to continue to gather untainted evidence and - again - for the protection of all concerned.
It is quite possible for a case to be dismissed if the leading judge feels there has been prejudice and a fair hearing is no longer possible. That's actually the worst outcome all round, with the famous Scots "Not Proven" verdict being a close second. Both leave doubts and suspicions and unfinished business.
I suspect there will be some kind of cautionary statement from the court and - even if that is aimed at news media outlets - social media sites need to be aware, particularly those with no Scottish Law knowledge.
Katek's last sentence puts it beautifully.

Anniebach Thu 24-Jan-19 15:07:15

14 charges, 2 for attempted rape, and several for sexual assault

Anniebach Thu 24-Jan-19 15:09:53

9 charges sexual assault
