A small number of back benchers will announce they are leaving the party this morning.

Chuka Umunna is one who may be among them.

I was at the conference when Kinnock lambasted Derek Hatton & Co

This was my Labour Party

Well as the group are a private company, and not subject to electoral law, anyone can donate to them and it doesn’t have to be declared. Democracy, transparency, openness, much?

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 10:06:45

Parsley thank you. Today I have to speak to the chair of the local party and the chair of the womens group, I did hold both positions until recently. Then friends in the Senydd and the deputy of Welsh Labour. Sad losing so many contacts , on the bright side no more canvassing ?.

My membership fee was due so I will donate it to the group who have left the party.

I too admire you Annie, for the decision you have made. How hard and distressing this must be after a lifetime of supporting and working for the LP through thick and thin only you can know, and I salute you for it. ?
Racism in any shape or form is quite shocking, and I'm at a loss to understand how people of any persuasion, under any circumstances can be so dreadful! Who on earth are these appalling people? How on earth could anyone in authority put up with such disgustingly cruel behaviour?!

Parsley3 Tue 19-Feb-19 09:43:12

Annie, what a hard decision to make. I have followed your political posts for a long time and it is clear that you have been a long standing, loyal and active member of the Labour Party. I hope that others will follow your principled example. We know what is said to happen when good men do nothing.

Perhaps some MP’s will wait to see if they will be de selected, some will be so the far left can get more far left MP’s

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 09:21:12

I don’t know Anniebach I think most of the country are sick of the division of Brexit which is in turn reflected into the two main parties of far right and far left.

I know the history of new parties isn’t great but but but I am 55 and I have never in my life seen so much division or disgust with politicians.

I hope sensible moderate politicians from both sides can come together to bring the country together.

People are tired of the extremes in both parties.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 09:03:46

Sadly many are thinking but will not act, they claim ‘ I am labour so I will stay , the party is my home’ . They know they cannot bring the party back to life, it’s dead . They are staying with the Momentum party

Ginny42 Tue 19-Feb-19 08:55:03

I think some MPs are thinking very hard about their position now. Watch this space I think. I do wish anyone seeking to build a centrist party success and may it come soon. I have never missed voting in a GE in my long life.

I would not vote for either of the two main parties now and that grieves me when reflecting on the sacrifices others made to enable me to have the right to vote.

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 08:48:11

Of course the Tories are not the good guys. Maybe some Tories will join the 7?? Soubery? Greaves? Because of Brexit?

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 08:46:26

I think most people are pretty decent though and would be moved by the speeches made by the 7 yesterday.

It was quite obvious that they were sincere. Most people are centre ground in politics and not hard left or right.

Corbyn got a bounce at the last election because A he promised the students he would cancel their debts and fees. And B people were pissed off with the Tories for calling a snap election in the first place and so gave them a kicking.

It won’t happen again if Corbyn is still in charge.

Anniebach Tue 19-Feb-19 08:38:22

David is saying openly what many think. .

Denying or defending anti semetism is racist. No matter that children attending Jewish schools need protection, grave stones in Jewish cemeteries are daubed with paint .

The seven who left the party yesterday will lose their seats , a choice , remaining silent and keeping their seat or speaking out and bringing the wrath of the gentler, kinder Labour Party leaders on them.

The Labour Party is dead .

mcem Tue 19-Feb-19 08:29:33

David should we then accept that your comment means you see racism/ anti-Semitism as acceptable and not a matter for concern? Shame on you!
Annie could teach you a lesson!

Lily65 Tue 19-Feb-19 08:23:24

Labour is an almightly mess . That doesn't mean the Tories are suddenly the good guys.

Rowantree Tue 19-Feb-19 08:12:20

Sounds, and is.

PECS Tue 19-Feb-19 07:49:53

Realistically David is probably saying what too many people think. Not enough people care about racism of any sort and will dismiss it as a minor issue.
For those of us for whom respect, equality and humanity cannot exist without strong opposition to all forms of racism it sounds shocking.

Mycatisahacker Tue 19-Feb-19 07:42:02

you don’t give a sod about anti semitusn

Do you realise what you are saying about yourself? You should be ashamed of yourself

Abuelamia Tue 19-Feb-19 07:25:34

Davidhs, I can’t believe that I have just read your comment “ don’t give a sod”. In fact it leaves me speechless. I am just so pleased that the majority of GNs do feel it is important.

Davidhs Tue 19-Feb-19 07:13:15

Is antisemitism really an issue that affects how the average person votes because personally I don’t give a sod, to me it’s much more important to have a effective opposition in parliament. The Labour Party scored a massive own goal giving party members leadership votes because activists will always dominate, and moderates marginalized.
Wether the recent resignations are the start of a new party I’m doubtful, they will be deselected at the next election and be opposed by an official candidate, splitting the vote. This is not going to be a Macron style presidential landslide, each MP has to be elected it will be a long slog.

Mycatisahacker Mon 18-Feb-19 23:49:09

urmstrongran

Maybe they are just principled. Maybe they are rightly applied by the bullying, antisemitism, lack of any leadership and the frankly wierd worship amongst the plp of one very ordinary and not very clever or principled swithering thin skinned old Trotsky!

Ginny42 Mon 18-Feb-19 23:46:40

Well, Anniebach, I expect you shed a few tears today, but if we cannot be true to ourselves then we truly have lost everything. I left last year, but even so, listening to the 7 MPs today, I was shocked to hear those accusations of antisemitism and racism so powerfully put, and I believe them.

I was not as involved as you were, but did my share of working in the local LP office and on the doorsteps. That was when I believed in the LP. I'm afraid Tom Watson spoke for me today.

Hatton back? Well he should fit in very well with what the LP has evolved into during his absence.

Jalima1108 Mon 18-Feb-19 23:39:38

Their defection makes no sense unless you and or your allies are about to be dumped, anyway.
Do you think not?

I think they have more principles than that and are sick of the way the LP is being run now.

Urmstongran Mon 18-Feb-19 23:31:49

Their defection makes no sense unless you and or your allies are about to be dumped, anyway. Then it makes a bit of sense to get yourself on tv and invite some Tories who are about to be dumped to join you.

Politics, Eh?

1inamillion Mon 18-Feb-19 23:24:04

Anniebach ?

Mycatisahacker Mon 18-Feb-19 23:15:15

Frank is a proper labour MP.

Brave fair courageous and with integrity.
