Well it is £16.8 thousand pounds surely we cant expect her to pay that herself out of the vast amount she takes off the taxpayers? This parasitic family makes my blood boil.Anyone else who wouldn't pay their rates would find themselves in court or vacating the property ...WHY should they be different ?They still USE all the services dont they?

Mines much higher than that mcem

Jalima1108 Thu 21-Feb-19 13:42:34

I don’t give a fig how much wealth people have as long as they pay their due’s.
I get more annoyed about the likes of Phil Green.

mcem Thu 21-Feb-19 13:53:26

Those figures were for Feb 2019 on Telegraph website and I just put them out there to give some realistic comparison. I simply picked at random one from North of England, Scotland and Wales to compare with Ken and Chelsea. I believe it confirms the unfairness of council tax.

£ 1,682.84 & £1,893.21 is my area's band C & D council tax for 18/ 19. I do not live in Weymouth though!

Anniebach Thu 21-Feb-19 15:33:53

Here, band C £61,000 to £91,000. band D £91,001 to £123,000

Elegran Thu 21-Feb-19 15:52:43

Edinburgh, 2018-2019 Council Tax

Band A £802.71
Band B £936.50
Band C £1,070.28
Band D £1,204.07
Band E £1,582.01
Band F £1,956.61
Band G £2,357.97
Band H £2,949.97

PECS Thu 21-Feb-19 16:03:23

Annie Not sure those figures are quite right.. they are more than Her Maj is being asked to pay! think that must be the value of the property not what you have to pay!

Anniebach Thu 21-Feb-19 16:05:17

Why are bands here not one sum for one band , band A is
£44,000, the only band with one sum

Anniebach Thu 21-Feb-19 16:06:59

Thanks PECS, I just took quick look at the site, silly me

trisher Thu 21-Feb-19 16:32:42

If only she WOULDN'T pay. I believe lots of councils now are making non-payers bankrupt in order to get their hands on the property. Can you imagine HRH up in court and forced to sell something (Oh I know it's impossible, but it is a way of highlighting what is happening. There was a programme about it on Radio 4 and one man who committed suicide just before the bailiffs arrived)
It is disgiusting that someone who has the means to pay won't and someone who hasn't can be hounded so badly.

lemongrove Thu 21-Feb-19 16:51:18

Who says they won’t pay? They are appealing against it, hardly the same thing.

trisher Thu 21-Feb-19 16:55:44

lemon try reading- IF ONLY

lemongrove Thu 21-Feb-19 16:58:06

trisher.... try reading your last sentence in your post
16.30.42!

mcem Thu 21-Feb-19 16:59:04

Band D here £1634 currently and 3% increase to come.
I assume Balmoral would pay band H council tax on the castle itself but the going rate for business rates on the estate or perhaps the house is included in the estate as part of the business.

mcem Thu 21-Feb-19 17:01:56

Btw £3928 is the rate for band H in Aberdeenshire!

trisher Thu 21-Feb-19 17:32:05

lemon Is she paying NO! She's appealing! If she'd just paid fine but she hasn't. She can afford to. Others who can't afford to are made bankrupt and then have to pay the costs of the bankruptcy. It's disgusting!

lemongrove Thu 21-Feb-19 18:46:02

Why disgusting to appeal? We appealed at a former house,
It’s available for all and if the appeal fails they will pay up.

PECS Thu 21-Feb-19 18:50:40

Would /should we expect the head of state (royal or president) to set a good example? Should the head of state challenge the taxes of their own country?

Elegran Thu 21-Feb-19 19:06:52

She is appealing the application of those taxes and perhaps the arithmetic of those who assessed them.

Caledonai14 Thu 21-Feb-19 19:07:34

This is just a guess, but I think all the buildings on the Balmoral Estate would be subject to the normal rates and those will not be the subject of the appeal. The business rate being objected to by other estates is the reimposed rate for the parts of their land used for so-called sporting pursuits like shooting and fishing. They've (all of them) had an exemption for those for a long time but I think they were reinstated in 2016. There are bound to be established business rates imposed for things like farm shops, riding schools and conference facilities (just to name two examples that I know of) and domestic buildings will be covered by Aberdeenshire's rates rate if you know what I mean. I think the total bill for an estate will be much higher than the amounts we are discussing and I can add that most of the small businesses I know object every time because the business rate is regarded as cripplingly high.

Caledonai14 Thu 21-Feb-19 19:08:46

Oops, er, three examples. blush

Jalima1108 Thu 21-Feb-19 19:49:58

Should the head of state challenge the taxes of their own country
Definitely, if they have got the calculations wrong - hope for us all!

annep1 Thu 21-Feb-19 20:43:29

I give a fig what land people own if it was assumed it belonged to them. see history section of my previous post.

Anniebach Thu 21-Feb-19 20:51:21

I do give a fig the English murdered the last Prince of Wales,
?

"Andy Wightman, the Scottish Greens MSP, said: “Bringing shooting estates into non-domestic rates is about fairness and it’s no surprise wealthy landowners are seeking to pay as little as possible.”
Tommy Sheppard, the SNP MP for Edinburgh East, said he was “astounded” by how low the Queen’s business rates bill was for her sporting estate. “If £16,800 is the rates she pays for the sporting estate at Balmoral, it seems very low. I’m astounded. It’s less than a small bar in Edinburgh or Glasgow would pay,” he said. “Tax is about the ability to pay and I am confident the Queen is not going to be overburdened by her rates bill for Balmoral and will lead by example by making her due contribution to public services.”
