Any fellow Leavers who would like to use this thread to post GOOD NEWS (away from Remainer doom & gloom)?

How about this for starters:

Norway’s $1 trillion (£753 billion) sovereign wealth fund – among the world’s most respected investors – has just confirmed it will boost its UK holdings. “Over time, our UK allocation will increase,” said Yngve Slyngstad, the Norwegian Fund’s CEO. “With our 30-year-plus time horizon, current political discussions don’t change our view,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to Britain even in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
This kind of clear-sighted, grown-up analysis contrasts starkly with the endless doom-mongering we get from subsidy-hungry politicos at the CBI. It’s precisely because Britain will thrive after Brexit that we attracted record foreign direct investment last year, beating the US, with only China attracting more. Even British start-ups raised almost £8  billion in venture capital during 2018 – some 70 per cent more than their French and German counterparts.
Boeing has opened its first manufacturing plant in Europe – in Sheffield. Technology-driven investment is piling in – not just to London but to Manchester and the North-East too. And, as Brexit-bashing stories about planes not flying are trumped by reality, investors from China to the Middle East are flocking to a country just judged by Forbes magazine as the “best place in the world to do business” for the second year in a row.
Yes, overseas investors are taking advantage of the weaker pound, which makes UK assets look attractive. But that’s how exchange rates work – which is why Europe’s monetary union is so crippling for many of its members.

Sorry for the long post but I’m not keen on links!

As I've said before I'm an 'undecided'. I didn't vote in the referendum because we had been out of the country too long. But I can see both sides.
What I hope for now is that the decision won't be delayed.
Decide one way or another then make the best of it.

Great to see that you haven’t let the bars...ds grind you down Urmstongran! Yes, are things looking up, will Geoffrey Cox pull it off? Oh I do hope so! (Far better than slug pellets, go into the garden early morning or after rain and gather up the blasted things).

Urmstongran Tue 05-Mar-19 13:37:49

Thanks Alima ??
Nice of you to post. x

Smileless2012 Tue 05-Mar-19 13:50:13

A great thread Urmstongran much needed; thank youflowers

petra Tue 05-Mar-19 13:56:04

Did nobody see the piece on Breakfast this morning?
It featured the French company Schneider.
They invested £3 billion in this country last year
Thats 2018, 2 years after the referendum

Urmstongran Tue 05-Mar-19 13:59:03

Thanks Smileless we do indeed need the POSTIVITY of this thread. It’s time we shared the GOOD NEWS about Brexit - it is out there in the news but gets overlooked on other GN forums because of the vehemence of those who voted Remain who mostly want to talk it down, discuss petitions and protest marches. That’s absolutely fair enough and I respect their wish to do just that.

I just felt this forum was needed to balance out the gloom and doom!

Good to have you posting! Let’s hope you can have a smile on your face very soon about our exit from the E.U.
??

Urmstongran Tue 05-Mar-19 14:01:12

Fantastic news Petra I missed that so thanks for sharing more GOOD NEWS!

MaizieD Tue 05-Mar-19 14:17:14

The vultures circling to pick up some cheap UK businesses while the pound is low?

I love how all these true blue patriots applaud the UK being sold off to overseas 'investors'...

Urmstongran Tue 05-Mar-19 14:31:53

Uh, hello again MaizieD thought it had been a little quiet and we were getting lucky. I should have known better!

I suppose you could argue that even foreign investors buying up at a fire sale bargain basement clapped out on its knees begging for assistance Britain brings work and wages to British employees.

But then again you wouldn’t see it that way ha! That would involve having a POSITIVE outlook for Britain ????

Onwards & upwards!

Greta Tue 05-Mar-19 14:55:18

It begs the question though, Urmstongran, since we are the world's 5th largest economy why can't we invest in our own country and people?

Ginny42 Tue 05-Mar-19 15:07:23

Schneider provide electricity, which means we're going to be buying more of it from France than we do already. Is that what we really wish for? Why can't we produce enough of our own?

I agree with Greta.

Urmstongran Tue 05-Mar-19 15:12:04

I agree Greta but that kind of question is above my pay grade I’m afraid.

A lot of business owners wanted E.U. workers brought over on minimum wage - businesses have taken the easy option for years by doing so and not investing in apprenticeships for our young people. Easy option to employ already skilled workers. And I don’t blame say the Poles for wanting to come as they then sent money home which gave them a much better lifestyle.

But I am convinced this pendulum will swing the other way soon ??

Too deep a question I’m afraid for sound bite answers!

Ginny42 Tue 05-Mar-19 15:27:46

I do wish people would stop implying that those of us who wish to remain in the EU don't care about Britain. It's BECAUSE we care that we are so concerned about what we are witnessing.

Do you think any of the millionaires making decisions on our behalf are going to have to 'wait until things get better'?

Have a good day.

Urmstongran Tue 05-Mar-19 15:35:31

I’ve never said Remain voters don’t care about Britain. That would be silly. We ALL care. We just have different viewpoints which is one of the reasons a referendum was held. ??

Ginny42 Tue 05-Mar-19 15:46:18

So what did you mean in this response to MaizieD?

'But then again you wouldn’t see it that way ha! That would involve having a POSITIVE outlook for Britain ????'

andycameron69 Tue 05-Mar-19 16:14:23

I adore the fact the majority of voters, voted out.

How thrilling

crystaltipps Tue 05-Mar-19 16:54:47

Lots of Russians buying up expensive property in the U.K. Marvellous !
I’m surprised Brexit supporters think foreign companies and wealthy individuals buying up U.K. businesses and property is such marvellous news. But then Putin supports Brexit - wonder why?

crystaltipps Tue 05-Mar-19 17:05:31

GG your emoji filled ripostes merely show the superficiality of your arguments.

It's annoying isn't it Ginny and just as annoying for those of us who voted leave to be accused of not caring about Britain.

Great news - here is a reminder that Redwood, Davis and Rees Mogg all want a second Referendum on the Deal after negotiations. Democracy- hurrah

Even more great news; even though BMW/Mini are probably going to leave Rolls Royce is going to stay. I'm beside myself with happiness. We will still have a car industry [of sorts]. Rolls Royce anyone ?

Cherrytree59 Tue 05-Mar-19 18:39:57

Please check out the Science, Nature and Environment on GN Forums.

A firm called MacRebur are opening a factory in Lockerbie.
They will making asphalt from plastic rubbish that would usually end up in landfill. ?

varian Tue 05-Mar-19 18:51:12

MacRebur factory opening has absolutely nothing to do with brexit.

I could tell you all some good news - my grand-daughter has just got into her first choice of school, but that would also have nothing to do with brexit.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-south-scotland-47454719

There is no news about brexit which is good news. Any kind of brexit would be bad news because it would impoverish our country and make us less secure and less significant in the world.

Cherrytree59 Tue 05-Mar-19 19:01:19

May be nothing to do with Brexit
but they (MacRebur) are obviously not worried about a new venture in this political climate and/or Brexit either.

Varian Congratulations to your GD?
