Strictly after Claudia ...........
Any fellow Leavers who would like to use this thread to post GOOD NEWS (away from Remainer doom & gloom)?
How about this for starters:
Norway’s $1 trillion (£753 billion) sovereign wealth fund – among the world’s most respected investors – has just confirmed it will boost its UK holdings. “Over time, our UK allocation will increase,” said Yngve Slyngstad, the Norwegian Fund’s CEO. “With our 30-year-plus time horizon, current political discussions don’t change our view,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to Britain even in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
This kind of clear-sighted, grown-up analysis contrasts starkly with the endless doom-mongering we get from subsidy-hungry politicos at the CBI. It’s precisely because Britain will thrive after Brexit that we attracted record foreign direct investment last year, beating the US, with only China attracting more. Even British start-ups raised almost £8 billion in venture capital during 2018 – some 70 per cent more than their French and German counterparts.
Boeing has opened its first manufacturing plant in Europe – in Sheffield. Technology-driven investment is piling in – not just to London but to Manchester and the North-East too. And, as Brexit-bashing stories about planes not flying are trumped by reality, investors from China to the Middle East are flocking to a country just judged by Forbes magazine as the “best place in the world to do business” for the second year in a row.
Yes, overseas investors are taking advantage of the weaker pound, which makes UK assets look attractive. But that’s how exchange rates work – which is why Europe’s monetary union is so crippling for many of its members.
Sorry for the long post but I’m not keen on links!

'The five-page guidance to doctors from the Royal College of Radiologists (RCR), seen by Newsnight, warns that some radiopharmaceutical suppliers "anticipate there may be some delay to their delivery times".
It advises clinicians to: "Keep [your] workload lighter for the first week following a no-deal Brexit, in order to see more clearly what the impact is likely to be."
It adds: "In the weeks leading up to Brexit you should consider how to prioritise requests based on clinical need, should supplies be compromised."
The guidance refers to the radioisotopes commonly used in the diagnosis and treatment of some cancers.
These cannot be stockpiled in advance because of the rapid decay of their radioactivity and "a one-day delay to delivery would reduce available activity by approximately 20%", according to the guidance from the RCR. '
ISOTOPES CANNOT BE STOCKPILED - is that clear enough for you. Don't you think it is stressful enough to be diagnosed with cancer- without being told that they have to delay treatment, and that they might not be able to carry out treatment- and that they will have to give priority to young people, those who are parents (quite rightly so in the case of shortages) ? You can put your fingers in your ears and go lalalalalalalalalal if you wish.
I would never want to wish ill on anyone - but i sincerely hope neither you, or any of your dearest loved ones- are struck by a terrible disease with the prospect of no availaibility of suitable treatment.
"It is now evident that many Leavers have died" - is it????
It IS true that many young Remainers seeing the intransigence of the EU ptb have changed their minds and now feel quite strongly that leaving is the right choice. The EU - hoist with its own petard.
Another reason to be cheerful.
No one could say what the number of voters is who have subsequently died because no one can know if they had voted, that is, unless I suppose, someone was posted at each crem. or cemetery to ask the close relatives
Oh Joelsnan that did make me laugh.
My dark sense of humour sees desperate Remainers doing nightly Burke and Hare type exhumations (for dna experiments) of all those who have died since the referendum.
Dark humour indeed.
Obviously some people do not understand how statistics are gathered accurately and shown to be statistically significant. You don’t have to ask every single person in the population.
Love it Joelsnan take a recommend ??

More GOOD NEWS to share:
Figures published yesterday by the Office for National Statistics (ONS)
reveal that ahead of Brexit, not only has the general population become happier, but their priorities have shifted.
Overall, Britons are looking positive. Personal well-being levels improved, as have mental health scores – increasing by 4.6 per cent between 2011 and 2016 to 63.2 per cent, close to the EU average of 64 per cent.
Prof C Snowdon from the ONS added:
“People in the UK forget that there’s some pretty miserable people out there in the EU and throughout this whole period of austerity, life satisfaction in the UK has been increasing.”

Being educated to Masters level, I am well aware on the gathering, sampling and extrapolating statistical data., and no matter what you say when you collect sample data, the results when extrapolated to a whole population are an educated guestimate. You cannot factor in every possible variant to cover every single person, it is probability based upon specific criteria...which indeed can be biased to achieve a satisfactory outcome if one chooses to do so.
You cannot then suggest that the results of many properly conducted surveys are a "guesstimate". They will have a tiny margin of error, depending on the sample size and the way the study was designed, but that should still give a great degree of reliability. "Guesstimate" sounds like a dismissive smear by someone who does not like the results.
I m a simple soul and just praying we have some sort of miracle and I wake up to hear we are staying where we should be in the EU ??
joelsnan I trust your masters is not in statistics, since “guesstimate” would not be acceptable in any genuine academic scientific study which uses acceptable representative sampling methods, which would allow for confounding variables. There would also be statistical testing on the statistics gathered to verify the significance of the results, since there will not be 100% reliability, nevertheless there should be demonstrably less than 5% probability of error. Which indicates we should be 95% certain of the validity of those statistics. There would be no point in trying to study any type of behaviour, or indeed any scientific study if all we were doing were “guessing”.
Who said there are lies, damned lies and statistics?
Not sure who said it, but they were definitely correct
So urmstongran you are saying that according to the ONS the mental health of people in the UK increased between 2011 and 2016 ie BEFORE the Referendum. What does that tell us about how people are feeling now? Most people I talk to are feeling very fed-up and anxious about what the future holds post-Brexit.
No oldgoat
Ahead of ... as in ‘about to happen’
‘Figures published today by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) reveal that as the nation prepares to leave the EU later this mont, not only has the general population become happier their priorities have also shifted.
The ONS report, ‘Measuring national well-being in the UK: international comparisons, 2019’ compares personal well-being levels within the UK and with the rest of Europe.
??
This makes me happier, just to read it!

Whatever statistical data is used and whatever checks and counter checks are used the end result is always a probability of accuracy. With regard to sampling data you would know that if the sample questionnaire is based on a persons thoughts or intention this can be difficult and easily confounded as can the methodology for challenging the outcome. Not all statistical data is harvested using sound 'farming' methodology.
Whilst I accept statistical data can be a valuable asset in many fields such as medical and demographic research I also recognise that it can be contrived.

Doesnt the ONS statistical data posted by Urmstongran raise an eyebrow, mine certainly involuntarily did.
From the ONS site:
(These all come from different sections. A bit of scrolling is required)
In the latest quarter, economic indicators such as income and spending continue to increase, however, longer term, there is a slowdown of household conditions, also seen in a levelling off of people’s personal well-being and people’s perception of the future has been worsening.
People perceive the economy and their personal financial situation will worsen over the next 12 months, continuing more pessimistic views seen since the beginning of 2018.
Looking ahead, people expect the next 12 months to be worse, both for the economy and their personal financial situation
In line with objective economic well-being measures, it is important to consider people’s subjective expectations about the economy and their own financial situation. Figure 19 shows that since Quarter 1 2018, people’s levels of optimism about perceptions of their future financial situation in the next 12 months declined at its fastest rate since Quarter 2 2016. Also, people’s expectations of the general economic situation over the next 12 months are worsening.

My point regarding statistical data expertly demonstrated within these posts...guestimates.
Statistical data based on perception is subjective and cannot be taken as fact.
