Leavers happily recognise that within us we have great innovators, hard workers, terrific scientists, world renowned engineers, architects, electronics and IT specialists and excellent entrepreneurs.
I agree with you, Joelsnan, we do have these people. But so do other countries. Why then do we not let our architects design and our builders build good quality houses for 'ordinary' people? We certainly have hard workers. Go to any state school and you'll see that teachers are working their socks off. Headteachers are apparently now cleaning toilets. As for our terrific scientists, this is from the The London School of Economics and Political Science:
Any pride that British politicians may feel about the quality of British science in comparison to other countries in the EU should have their mood strongly tempered by the realisation that in the eyes of many British scientists, the EU is stealing a march on the UK in science policy leadership. New directions and capacities that our UK scientists argue for are now rapidly adopted within EU thinking, whilst in the UK, common knowledge about core needs (e.g. a funding increase to a 3% target) often circulates perennially with inaction by the parties in power and their appointees.
This I feel sums it up, we have the talent but we don't invest in it. I wish I could be as optimistic as some posters. I would really like to know what it is, in their opinion, that is going to drastically change the political will in this country and bring about the bright future they predict outside the EU.
