Ah well andy keep that optimism for as long as you can..

Any fellow Leavers who would like to use this thread to post GOOD NEWS (away from Remainer doom & gloom)?
How about this for starters:
Norway’s $1 trillion (£753 billion) sovereign wealth fund – among the world’s most respected investors – has just confirmed it will boost its UK holdings. “Over time, our UK allocation will increase,” said Yngve Slyngstad, the Norwegian Fund’s CEO. “With our 30-year-plus time horizon, current political discussions don’t change our view,” he added, reaffirming his commitment to Britain even in the case of a no-deal Brexit.
This kind of clear-sighted, grown-up analysis contrasts starkly with the endless doom-mongering we get from subsidy-hungry politicos at the CBI. It’s precisely because Britain will thrive after Brexit that we attracted record foreign direct investment last year, beating the US, with only China attracting more. Even British start-ups raised almost £8 billion in venture capital during 2018 – some 70 per cent more than their French and German counterparts.
Boeing has opened its first manufacturing plant in Europe – in Sheffield. Technology-driven investment is piling in – not just to London but to Manchester and the North-East too. And, as Brexit-bashing stories about planes not flying are trumped by reality, investors from China to the Middle East are flocking to a country just judged by Forbes magazine as the “best place in the world to do business” for the second year in a row.
Yes, overseas investors are taking advantage of the weaker pound, which makes UK assets look attractive. But that’s how exchange rates work – which is why Europe’s monetary union is so crippling for many of its members.
Sorry for the long post but I’m not keen on links!
Ah well andy keep that optimism for as long as you can..
An excerpt from the Guardian:
The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) is a waste of money for British taxpayers.
Costs £674m per year.
Just £49m comes back.
Gov could replace it and cover UK citizens at 8% of the cost.
Meanwhile Brexit ‘fair use’ already helping the NHS:

thank you for a lovely thread
much appreciated
another day nearer to WTO and Leave as we the majority of voters, voted for..
I think you are a bit ahead of yourself there andy
Nah, make that 'deliriously out of touch', maybe? I hate to pour cold water on your professed happiness , ahem, but it's always best not to count your chickens.
Even the most fervent Leaver knows many of our parliamentarians are doing their (traitorous, imo) utmost to keep us tied to the EU.
I doubt very much if anything will be agreed by 29th March.
But on a more positive note, most of the country is now taking an interest in domestic politics, and is aware that we could be betrayed by the very people who should be working for us.
It's been an eye-opener for many, many UK citizens, if nothing else.
"It's been an eye-opener for many, many UK citizens, if nothing else."
Very good point Day6.
I watched the H of P chanel this pm for a while and once again was impressed by the conviction and sincerity of the ordinary MPs who spoke.
It only seems to be when they get to cabinet level or so that they spout platitudes.
amazing .
yes
but the reality is 18 days we leave , no matter what
Seems Mrs. May might be on the cusp of a better deal!
?
Let’s hope so for everyone’s sake.
News update:
This just now from the Graun
The German chancellor, Angela Merkel, said that Brussels made a “very important offer” during the weekend’s talks. “I think that a very important offer has been made to Britain and now it’s up to Britain to respond to these offers,” she told reporters in Berlin.
oh really, we will see....
As a Leaver I’d be okay with out on ‘no deal’ but all the Remainers would be up in arms I think. I feel a deal, if it can be deemed good enough, might be the compromise we all need to put it to bed. Finally!
If Angela Merkel is speaking up, it’s agreed.
Maybe that was why Barnier was over in Ireland? Not just the rugby - maybe getting Varadkar on side?
Sinn Fein will be furious.
As will Anna Soubry..... she’s burnt her bridges going with Chukka. They’ll be irrelevant now. And Keir Starmer too.
Parliament asked her to bring back concessions. If she has got something it might just be enough!
I hope so. It would be GOOD NEWS!
??

Perhaps that's why Barnier did not look happy (surely not just because of the rugby?).
Let's hope a good compromise can be achieved.
I really do hope so too Jalima
Well There must be something serious going on. No Crace sketch yet in the Graun!

19.27: An emergency meeting of Irish cabinet ministers has been called for 7pm, a government source has confirmed to the Press Association.
Joelsnan in response to your post of 15:41
The examples you cited were individuals facing very difficult life choices like divorce, an abused spouse finding safety, or someone thinking of relocating, all of which leaves individuals/families fearful.
We are discussing a single decision affecting c. 66.5 million people. (https://www.ukpopulation.org/)
The magnitude of that simply does not compare to your examples.
Day6 (16.02)
This 'remainer' has faced many challenges in my life and have reinvented myself several times in my personal life and professionally, so please don't make statements like, 'Remainers are risk averse'. It's offensive.
I love your posts Andy, they make me laugh. Can I join you dancing on your coffee table? Of course it would have to be a British dance. What about a Morris dance? I have some bells we could sew onto our socks. Or a Lancashire clog dance, or would that scratch your table? Keep smiling and poking fun at everybody!
smiles thank you for your kindness

Brexit is a mess and a failure of leadership, former US ambassador to EU says |

love brexit
Perhaps, Ginny42 I should have said as far as leaving the EU is concerned, Remainers are risk averse.
Many people, me included, have faced extremely difficult challenges in life. As far as leaving the EU is concerned that is a challenge and a risk, but one more than over half the voting public is willing to face. Those who voted Leave in the referendum see a bigger and riskier future if we stay in the ailing EU.
"Brexit is a mess and a failure of leadership, former US ambassador to EU says"
Well that's hardly news, is it? Where's he been for the last two years?
Many Leavers feel May has gone to Brussels with a begging bowl and allowed EU bureaucrats to call the shots from day one. Her strategy has been pathetic, imo.
I do hate that term’ The Grown Ups’ so very patronising & frankly & ironical ‘ Childish’
Perhaps, Ginny42 I should have said as far as leaving the EU is concerned, Remainers are risk averse.
Interesting, Day6 because that was mentioned pre-referendum by a poster who is no longer on here. She said that she had read (and provided a link) that the way people would probably vote in the referendum would reflect their attitude to risk, or words to that effect.
please don't make statements like, 'Remainers are risk averse'. It's offensive.
I don't think it's offensive in the slightest, Ginny42, and as far as family and friends I know, the way they voted may well reflect their attitude to risk.
You are obviously a coper as are many of us but perhaps the risks we faced were not of our own choosing.
