Can't be bothered scrolling back.

GabriellaG54 Fri 29-Mar-19 18:45:36

Just what I expected. ?

GabriellaG54 Fri 29-Mar-19 18:46:35

At least I have the courage to say what I mean.

Lily65 Fri 29-Mar-19 18:59:15

I have courage. I think Robinson and his ilk are vile. I think you support him and have said so. Unfortunately I can't find it. It may have been deleted.

Thinking is different from knowing
I WAS a UKIP supporter and have previously voted for them but that doesn't mean that I underscore every member and agree with the likes of Robinson.
That is akin to saying that every Labour supporter agrees with and likes Jeremy Corbyn or any other similarities I could make.
I was (and in many ways still am) in agreement with Nigel Farage, certainly not the ugly 'face' of UKIP associated with or represented by Tommy Robinson.
It is you who have married the two, not I.
I have always been a conservative voter until UKIP came along.
I still agree with NFs policies in the main but do not agree with or support Tommy Robinson.
Do you support, agree with and like every member of your chosen party? Does anyone?
I doubt it but don't start spouting that I'm a TR supporter as that is very far from the truth.

Lily65 Fri 29-Mar-19 19:28:22

It's not really a fair comparison though is it? Robinson is aligned with UKIP. One of the main thrusts of UKIP is a desire to rid this sceptred isle of immigrants.

"Immigration is overwhelming our public services, which themselves are being slashed – 25% off the police, for example, in some cases nearly 50% off local government.

Housing and communities are being overwhelmed. It is harming our own culture, traditions and way of life. We must demand that our own concerns about our own British culture are heard and that that feeds into our policy on immigration"

I think it's a fair comparison but you have your very strong views as have I.
I did not say that I still support UKIP with Tommy Robinson in charge. I did say that I agree, in the main, with most of Nigel Farage's points when he first headed the party.
If something morphs into an ugly parody of the original, I am never going to agree.
I do believe in controlled immigration. I do believe that we should welcome those who wish to contribute to our economy but, there has to be the infrastructure to support it.
Many countries, much, much bigger than ours, have extremely strict immigration procedures and it works. If you have a secure job to go to and enough money to sustain you and anyone who comes with you so you are not a drain on the taxpayers of the country you seek to live in...that is good and right.
But you're making it all about immigration which is not my primary concern.
I would like Britain to stand on it's own two feet without having to refer to the diktats and constraints of the EU. That is first and uppermost on my wish list.
I ask you this.
Does everyone who voted Labour agree with the anti-semitic and other comments made by Jeremy Cornyn or the antics (past and present) of the Labour led unions?
I don't agree with half the stuff that Conservatives peddle either.
No party has a clean blemish-free face. None.
I'm not going to say anything further on this subject.
Have a good weekend. smile

Take a recommend GG54. ??
I’m with you!

Lily65 Fri 29-Mar-19 21:01:39

Sorry but what does Take a Recommend mean?

Where do asylum seekers and refugees fit in? They are not allowed to work.

Urmstongran Fri 29-Mar-19 21:13:18

It’s a Royal Navy slang term Lily65 and I love it. I was born in Portsmouth, my dad served for many years as an engineer in the Royal Navy. It’s similar in meaning to a merit. I like the old traditions.

Bridgeit Fri 29-Mar-19 21:13:55

Most of the comments I read from leavers invariably refers to this country as somehow having been forced to join the EU, held hostage without access to or involvement with decision making, paying out huge sums of money with nothing in return etcetc. We in fact have enjoyed many benefits from this union, especially for our young people. We should at least acknowledge it hasn’t all been a one way street .

Lily65 Fri 29-Mar-19 21:15:31

so back to my second question?

Sorry .... I don’t understand the 2nd part of your question Lily65 please explain and I will answer it if I can.

Do you like ‘take a recommend’ as much as me, now you know it’s origin?

Ahh I get it now -take a recommend -is a cowardly way of insulting another person

GillT57 Fri 29-Mar-19 22:05:17

Andy c has now morphed into Lutongranny?

Urmstongran Fri 29-Mar-19 22:09:02

No it’s NOT Bridgeit why are you being obtuse?

CyclingKnitter Fri 29-Mar-19 22:09:06

I love living in a multicultural community. I love the diversity immigration brings, the different experiences and insights that people new to the country bring with them. And, contrary to what is peddled by the anti-immigration crowd, it's good for the economy: www.ft.com/content/797f7b42-bb44-11e8-94b2-17176fbf93f5. The lies about "going it alone" are just that: lies. I am ashamed of the crude racism and dog whistle politics of both the left and the right - Corbyn is no better than May and her lot. That's what we should be ashamed of, together with the meaningless sound bites of "taking back control" and "no deal is better than a bad deal": that's just not true, unless you want to have chlorinated chicken, be beholden to the US and lose any power that we might still have after this total fiasco. People like Farage should be mocked and laughed at: Mr Elite pretending to be a "man of the people" - Ha! I remember how exciting it was when we entered Europe: a whole new world opened up and we're now preventing our children and grandchildren from enjoying that world. We should be ashamed of ourselves.

Urmstongran Fri 29-Mar-19 22:11:13

My post that got deleted was not a reflection upon me I’m relieved to clarify.

“ ... deleting this post is not a reflection on you”. (from GNHQ)

Phew!
I was puzzled as I always try to be respectful and polite.

Bridgeit Fri 29-Mar-19 22:12:10

Please do not shout at me Urmstongran ,it’s is very infantile, I am not being obtuse, just trying to understand the obnoxious comments on this thread.

Urmstongran Fri 29-Mar-19 22:14:24

The ‘chlorinated chicken’ CK that we who visit the USA probably eat with no detriment. Get a grip.
??

CyclingKnitter Fri 29-Mar-19 22:15:55

Not me: I'm a veggie!

Urmstongran Fri 29-Mar-19 22:21:53

What? One word ‘Not’ was shouting?
No, it was for emphasis dear.
I have never been obnoxious anywhere on GN.

When my mum & dad decided to marry in 1952, mum lived with her family in Blackpool. Dad was in Portsmouth serving in the RN. They exchanged many letters during their courtship. Mum mentioned in one of her letters that the only way they could be together in Portsmouth would be if they were to marry.

Dad sent her a TELEGRAM. Bless. I have it in my memory box as mum died last year.

It states “Good idea. Take a Recommend”.

I always thought it was magical and romantic.
Where on earth could I EVER have learned nastiness from such wording?
