The DUP- one country (except when it isn't)

The DUP has voted for cuts which will see free school meals removed from families on universal credit in England, but the income level is higher in N. Ireland so meals will remain there. Is this fair or just? They keep on about one country but apparently only when it suits.

When I said :-

" you carry on with your ' style' of posting as it only serves to signal to others your short comings which can be seen on many threads."

I didn't expect you to make my point so succinctly nor as quickly.

maryeliza54 Wed 20-Mar-19 11:31:05

Well anything trisher will do except criticise the DUP

maryeliza54 Wed 20-Mar-19 11:32:02

Hahahahaha POGS SDGAFF

"POGS are you really saying that you think that child poverty and children who go hungry is OK?"

You are deliberately ' twisting ' my point re your ' sweeping statement ' and how posters have/will believe what you stated!

You will believe what you will believe of my character and your question to be honest is so stupid I can only answer with ' NO'.

trisher Wed 20-Mar-19 11:38:38

Then read the Child Poverty report POGS and then reflect that the biased reports from Channel 4 do, as usual in the MSM, try to make something which is absolutely abhorrent to most people somehow acceptable.

Oh dear POGS we are in a bit of a mood this morning aren’t we. Never mind have a brew

EllanVannin Wed 20-Mar-19 12:34:45

Arlene Foster obviously doesn't remember the potato famine !

annep1 Wed 20-Mar-19 12:36:08

How are DUP misogynistic?
How have they alone "mucked up" the NI government.

annep1 Wed 20-Mar-19 12:37:23

TO Crystaltipps and MaryEliza.

annep1 Wed 20-Mar-19 12:40:02

I disagree with the DUP vote on school meals but I like to be fair and balanced.

maryeliza54 Wed 20-Mar-19 12:42:29

Any political party that thinks it’s absolutely fine that women and girls should be forced to give birth - including raped 12 year olds, are misogynistic. I also forgot to say they are homophobic as well.

Basically it is AF’s fault - she refused to resign after the Cash for Ash financial scandal and now she pulls our strings - how can anyone, left, right or centre believe the role of the DUP at Westminster is other than a contempt of parliament and the most disgraceful affront to democracy - TM bought their filthy votes

Anniebach Wed 20-Mar-19 13:05:28

If Corbyn wins the next election Sinn Fein MP’s will consider taking their seats in Westminster, they too are anti abortion

paddyann Wed 20-Mar-19 13:21:18

Are you sure about that *Annie" the Republic passed the Abortion bill and it was passed on all sides as far as I'm aware .

Anniebach Wed 20-Mar-19 13:30:25

N.I. paddyanne the Republic MP’s can’t sit in Westminster

maryeliza54 Wed 20-Mar-19 13:56:45

Paddy the ROI had a grown up referendum -well planned, thought through, citizen’s assembly, no illegal spending <sigh>

Unlike the DUP, SF is demonstrating some movement towards the 20th century

yggdrasil Wed 20-Mar-19 15:21:07

Sinn Fein has traditionally never taken their seats at Westminster because they would have to swear loyalty to the English Crown. Given the mess the DUP have caused, I think they should just cross their fingers :-)

A few thoughts:
Everyone seems so onesided here and angry.
You can't blame DUP for what is happening at Westminster. That's down to TM. You get what you vote for.

The problem with DUP is most of them are Christians. Nothing wrong with that.. Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. It doesn't make them nasty. But you should not bring religion into political decisions..

Not agreeing with abortion being freely available doesn't make one misogynistic. I personally believe it should only be allowed in certain circumstances. I believe human life is precious. And I am not a member of the DUP.

DUP would be back in Stormont tomorrow. There shouldnt be preconditions.

And it makes me sad that moderate parties get little support.. --The majority of citizens in Northern Ireland vote on one issue only will you keep us in the union or get us out of it ! This is why DUP and SF are so powerful.
Btw its the 21st century MaryEliza.

I spent the morning listening to John Lennon's album Working Class Heroes. A much more pleasant use of time than that I have spent recently on GN. I do wonder how many people commenting actually live in Northern Ireland and understand the complexities. I am 68 and have lived through it all with some very bad memories which I would rather forget. I would prefer to draw a line under ALL investigation of the past and move forward. Threads like this drag me back.
So my last post.
When I finish my March book and write my review, I am out of here.

trisher Thu 21-Mar-19 20:07:05

annpl you are of course completely entitled to your views on abortion, what you are not entitled to do is to force anyone to conform to your views. It is mysoginistic to deny women the right to decide how their own bodies should be treated. It happened for years in patriarchal societies and we are just seeing the end of it. Denying women the right to safe, legal abortion caused many deaths and tragedies usually amongst poor women who could not afford to buy safe abortions.
I don't think I did blame the DUP for what is happening at Westminster I accused them of having double standards-one country but only when it suits.
