I doubt those living in other countries will be hot-footing it back to live here permanently any time soon, regardless of what they say they might do.
I predict that 2023 will still see them living abroad.

GabriellaG54 Wed 01-May-19 22:41:19

...and I wonder if they immerse themselves as deeply on social sites (discussing politics and other topics) of the country of their birth in which they now reside, as they do on topics peculiar to the UK.
If they do...then they can't have much of a social life if the posts on here are any indication of the level of 'immersion'.

Urmstongran Wed 01-May-19 23:02:33

Do you mean jura GG54?

Actually she did only say she’s ‘thinking’ of returning here so you might be right.

I suppose it depends upon the exchange rate. If it’s good = pensions into euros is fine. If it plummets (as a few years ago) = ex pats come home as they don’t get as many euros for their pensions as they did in boom times.

GabriellaG54 Thu 02-May-19 00:43:27

Yes...and anyone else that the cap fits.

GabriellaG54 Thu 02-May-19 00:44:00

that who

Lily65 Thu 02-May-19 08:53:14

My post at 17.32 ....anyone?

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 09:01:28

I smile at the discussion about closet Tories! Surely if you a Tory you say so or labour you say so. Why would you keep it in any closer or an anonymous Internet forum.

You do realise that criticism of jezza doesn’t make you a rabid Tory! Most of his fiercest critics sit behind him in parliament. grin

Jeremy Corbyn is a fossil. He attracts as supporters old style lefties who are out of touch with reality. My opinion has been formed by attendance at my local CP meetings. I am a life- long Labour Party member, centre left in persuasion. Keri Starmer is a principled man, Yvette Cooper a principled woman: either of those would be my choice as leader.

Iam64 Thu 02-May-19 09:11:27

totally agree Jaxie

Anniebach Thu 02-May-19 09:14:45

I too agree Jaxie

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 09:15:00

I wanted yvette too.

I don’t agree with her on Brexit but I know she’s a woman with principles and integrity and she feels she’s doing what she thinks is right.

She’s in s very small group.

Corbyn is a walking disaster.

Jaxie Thu 02-May-19 09:19:52

Keir not Keri ( ruddy predictive text) so heartened to have Gransnetters agreeing with me rather than slagging me off.

Grannyrebel27 Thu 02-May-19 09:25:32

Jeremy Corbyn is a true socialist. He's probably the only politician who doesn't have his own agenda. He is truly for the people. I, for one, will vote for him. I've always been a labour supporter and will continue to be one. I don't believe he is an antisemite either. That's just a stick this right wing press have used to beat him with. I just wish he didn't keep such a low profile.

Anniebach Thu 02-May-19 10:09:46

Corbyn is not honest, I would check the calendar is he said
‘Today is Thursday ‘,

He is not for ‘the people’ , he is for his Marxist fantasies.

This is a man who put Venezuela as a Utopia.

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 10:17:10

He keeps a low profile because he’s not a leader he’s a protester. He doesn’t want to be PM it would terrify him. He’s a momentum puppet whose too stupid to realise he was being manipulated and got swept into the leadership against his will. He never thought he would win. Who sensible would.

Well if he’s not an anti Semite he’s as thick as mince and has worse judgment than may and that’s saying something.

trisher Thu 02-May-19 10:46:53

Mycatisahacker It does amuse me when people just jump on a bandwagon without any idea of what they are saying. Is there anti-semitism in old writings? Undoubtedly. Does publishing or recognising these writings because of historical interest mean that you endorse or approve of that anti-semitism? Of course not. If we are to proceed along those lines we risk wiping out the entire history of how ideas and concepts developed and changed, and of course therefore, where the ideas which resulted in the rise of fascism came from. And the only people who would benefit from that are the right wing and fascists.
We simply ignore historical attitudes to the cost of our own future. There may be people ringing in to LBC expressing their disgust but I suspect many of them are like the people on GN just looking for something else to throw at Corbyn. It really is pathetic.
Try arguing with the Labour policies he stands for instead of raking up supposed dirt (But actually I suspect you can't)

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 11:14:57

tricher

What baffles,me more than amuses me, is the utter blinkers that Corbyn worshippers seem to wear.

I can’t be bothered to discuss anti semitism with you as it’s obviously a fact that he has alienated and disgusted the vast majority of Jews in this country but of course they don’t get irony do they angry

Labour policies.

Taking back facilities to governance control

sounds great but when quizzes on the costs the buy out costs Abbott has no hard facts ditto her fiasco on policing costs.

Education.

Angela Raynor basic policy wanting to reduce class sizes to under 30! Great idea but when quizzes by Andrew Neale she has no facts of figures on how many kids actually were in classes over 30 or how much it would cost to sort this problem out or indeed if it even existed as a problem.

Corbyn on the tuition gaff!

I could go on. Utterly inept and incompetent.

I think the Tories are almost as dreadful by the way. No mistake about that.

Take off your blinkers. He’s not up to the job. It’s not a character assassination of him he’s just not up to the top job. Just like May.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 02-May-19 11:30:58

Blimey Mycatisahacker. I think I am becoming your "fan girl" or should that be "fan Gran"!!!!

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 11:35:14

GrannyGravy

grin it’s mutual your posts seem to me to be eminently sensible.

I sometimes feel I am in a parallel universe where the lunatics actually have taken over the asylum.

Probably get told off for using the world lunatic. It’s bound to offend some.,grin

Dinahmo Thu 02-May-19 11:38:03

When will some of you realise that there is a difference between antisemitism and antizionism. The former is anti Jewish people and the latter is anti the state of Israel. There is a big difference. Many Jewish people are opposed to the way in which the state of Israel operates.

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 11:53:08

Dinahmo

Whispers errrr we do understand. Most people works wide understand that too. It’s pretty easy. Most can dissemble. Even Jews who clearly don’t understand irony. hmm

Pehaps you could explain it to Jeremy though because he clearly does not.

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 12:08:32

Here’s an idea contact the chief rabbi he can explain it to him. And you

trisher Thu 02-May-19 12:11:04

Of course he understands Mycatisahacker what you fail to understand is that some Jewish people are Zionists and Zionists find the policy of any acceptance whatsoever of Palestinian rights abhorrent. That they see Jeremy Corbyn as a threat not because he is anti-semitic but because he believes in human rights and one of the biggest abuses of human rights today is the treatment of the Palestinian people and that these people might use any accusations they can to prevent him or his ideas gaining power.

Fennel Thu 02-May-19 12:52:19

Good points, Trisher.
Also, from what I've read in the Jewish press, there's a recognition that the ordinary 'man in the street' in Palestine is indeed suffering because of the actions of the IDF. And Israel hopes to make recompense.
But also a lot of the suffering comes from the internal battles between Fatah and Hamas. A subject which is rarely mentioned.

Anniebach Thu 02-May-19 13:05:10

corbyn didn’t believe in the human rights of the Olympic athletes from Israel, he attended a wreath laying ceremony to their murderers .
