Climate Change Protests - will they make a difference?

There has been so far 3 days of climate change protests in Central London and other locations. They’ve disrupted traffic and inconvenienced a few, but have been in the main peaceful and has had a festival atmosphere. It looks like these protests will continue. Personally I feel climate change is a really important issue and should be the one that our esteemed politicians should be acting on and discussing but they aren’t. I’m in no way part of this group but, with some reservations, applaud their efforts and hope it does bring the issue to the fore. It does highlight how far our police resources are stretched that they can’t be stopped though. If you don’t live or work in the capital you probably don’t care about the protest , but hopefully you do care about the issues, and these protests it may be coming to a town near you. What do others think?

Made no difference at all that she shared it!

Greta has sensible parents too.

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 20:35:05

I think she had more protection from her parents though? They decided her education was more important and of course in her case she was a target for extremists.

I just think this kid looked haunted and I think it’s a bit like being a child movie star and that often goes tits up doesn’t it!

Too much too young

I quite like him (Gove)

Don't tell teacher daughter I said that!

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 20:36:57

Na no sensible parent allows a kid to wag off school every Friday and address ‘the world’

In my opinion they are very neglectful and exploitative but time will tell.

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 20:38:56

Actually dh briefly worked at defra and he thought he was pretty amiable If whimsical.

His briefcase was always undone and shedding documents grin

My sister is a teacher and he’s the Antichrist grin

Frankly, having seen her speech and subsequent interviews, if I knew nothing about her I'd say she has little to no facial expression or animation and her pigtails make her look like a 12yr old.
She (sadly) looks like an automaton.

Gonegirl Wed 24-Apr-19 22:02:54

True colours showing now Gabriella. grin

Actually I think we are posting on the wrong thread here neah

There is a specific one about Greta.

M0nica Thu 25-Apr-19 09:00:33

Emma Thompson was interviewed on R4 this morning.

To pick out just one of her gormless gems, and they were many, was the statement 'Until all these demonstrations began the government had done nothing (about climate change.

As she said this 25% of our power was coming from renewable sources, 43%, if you include nuclear (emission free). On the day of one of the major demonstrations nearly 50% of our power was from renewable sources, 65% if you include nuclear and we were in the longest period ever (90 hours plus) when coal was not being used to generate power. It only produces a couple of a % of power these days at its worst.

And imagine all that renewable power has been installed in less than a week since ER began their demonstrations, or according to Emma that is what happened hmm

Then there was her justification of flying in from LA for the demonstration - no I wont go there, it was too ridiculous.

Mycatisahacker Thu 25-Apr-19 09:07:53

God she’s a bore off isn’t she! I do wish these so called celebrities and singers would understand that because they are talented in their field that doesn’t make them either well informed or interesting in all areas.

Oh please "go there" M0nica I didn't hear it. What a first class hypocrite she is !

Wow! That is a horribly judgemental post and shows your ignorance of autism. Lack of facial expression is one of the symptoms.

maryeliza54 Thu 25-Apr-19 09:35:01

Well clearly I heard a very different interview from * MO* but then neither of us were listening with an open mind. At least ET didn’t charter a private jet

Greta Thu 25-Apr-19 09:47:06

GabriellaG54:...^"she has little to no facial expression or animation and her pigtails make her look like a 12yr old.

Lack of facial expression is of course one of the characteristics of autism.

Scandinavians often look younger than they are because they tend to go in for a more natural look, e.g. girls often don't wear make-up.

Pigtails. What is wrong about them? Would you have preferred it if she had adopted a more sexy look?

"She looks like an automaton". What a cruel comment.

We must also remember that she is under extra pressure because she is delivering her message here in a foreign language.

Urmstongran Thu 25-Apr-19 09:49:53

You’re not THE Greta are you Greta??

Greta Thu 25-Apr-19 09:59:53

No, Urmstongran. I'm Greta Garbo!

GabriellaG54 Thu 25-Apr-19 10:00:54

They're my views, take 'em or leave 'em.
As for Gonegirl and 'true colours', a big thank you ???????
I knew we'd agree on some points sooner or later.

GabriellaG54 Thu 25-Apr-19 10:03:33

Anja
I can't possibly be judgemental if I am ignorant of Autistim and it's effects.

Urmstongran Thu 25-Apr-19 10:23:37

Greta ?

Gonegirl Thu 25-Apr-19 10:31:44

Gabriella I am amazed you agree with me. Especially as some words I had in mind were "bitchy" and "mean-spirited". And, perhaps worst of all - "silly".

Urmstongran Thu 25-Apr-19 10:37:16

Now a dozen or so of them have super glued themselves to the London Stock Exchange.

I’d leave them up there.
