Climate Change Protests - will they make a difference?

There has been so far 3 days of climate change protests in Central London and other locations. They’ve disrupted traffic and inconvenienced a few, but have been in the main peaceful and has had a festival atmosphere. It looks like these protests will continue. Personally I feel climate change is a really important issue and should be the one that our esteemed politicians should be acting on and discussing but they aren’t. I’m in no way part of this group but, with some reservations, applaud their efforts and hope it does bring the issue to the fore. It does highlight how far our police resources are stretched that they can’t be stopped though. If you don’t live or work in the capital you probably don’t care about the protest , but hopefully you do care about the issues, and these protests it may be coming to a town near you. What do others think?

On the contrary GabbyG it is often ignorance that fuels prejudice and intolerance. In knowledge lies wisdom.

Gonegirl Thu 25-Apr-19 10:39:47

Oh blimey - I thought it was over.

Ah no, just my young feller gone back to school. grin

Urmstongran Thu 25-Apr-19 11:04:37

I think you are hoping to get a rise out of Gg54 by calling her GabbyG Anja
Stop baiting.

Anja Thu 25-Apr-19 11:12:04

I’m sure if she was bothered she would have said so herself.

Anja Thu 25-Apr-19 11:14:10

Oh I see what you are getting at! Gabby is quite a common diminutive of Gabriella Urm no offence meant.

Urmstongran Thu 25-Apr-19 11:21:02

Anja. ?

GabriellaG54 Thu 25-Apr-19 11:55:38

Oh dear...Gonegirl
I would never ever call you names like that...the very thought has me coming out in hives.
No...that's not my style at all although you'd be correct in thinking those words might be used by some others on here.

Katek Thu 25-Apr-19 11:56:24

I wonder if the irony of supergluing themselves to offices is understood by the people involved.........

Gonegirl Thu 25-Apr-19 11:56:25

I wasn't calling you names. I was describing your comment.

GabriellaG54 Thu 25-Apr-19 12:12:57

Anja
Often is not always.
I'm certainly neither intolerant not prejudiced. I speak as I find and that was how the young woman presented herself to me as I watched/listened.
I cannot be expected to be conversant with every nuance or behaviour especially those experienced by people I see but don't know.
I have never (knowingly) known or met anyone with any of the most common acronyms with which many on here are familiar.
We're all a bit hearty and healthy and, apart from the odd cough and cold, free from ailments and 'issues' so to describe as I saw, was no different to me describing anyone else, as you and others judge and describe me.
I'm not living my life being fearful of saying something...anything, in case it offends someone whose afflictions I'm not aware of or any other who decides to censure me on their behalf.
That's as far as I'm going with this.
Enjoy your afternoon and perhaps steering clear of my comments might be an idea. smile

GabriellaG54 Thu 25-Apr-19 12:15:23

Frankly, Gonegirl I couldn't care less what you were commenting on.
Now let's call it quits as I want to enjoy my afternoon shopping.
grin

humptydumpty Thu 25-Apr-19 12:19:51

I wonder in relation to GG54's comments whether GN Central would consider the availability of a filter whereby it was possible to specify users whose posts one did not want to see?

Urmstongran Thu 25-Apr-19 12:26:52

No humptydumpty diversity of opinion is good! Filtering out would give us only our own & fellow narratives like an echo chamber.
?

Gonegirl Thu 25-Apr-19 12:30:03

Gabriella - I'm sorry. x

Mycatisahacker Thu 25-Apr-19 12:31:34

I would have left them there too. The workers could use the fire exits so leave them for a day. They would soon be complaining after a few hours and they needed s wee.

Gonegirl Thu 25-Apr-19 12:31:51

I am going shopping too.

I'm going on my bike. [halo]

Mycatisahacker Thu 25-Apr-19 12:33:33

humptydumpty

Pointless then isn’t it as you stay in your echo chamber.

Report posts you feel need to be but no way close down different opinions to you or me. That’s incredibly dangerous

Gonegirl Thu 25-Apr-19 12:33:44

I am going to buy my GS some shower gel. He thinks he is getting Marks and Sparks stuff that he had before. He is actually getting Lush no plastic solid shower 'gel'.

humptydumpty Thu 25-Apr-19 13:10:49

I wasn't thinking of blocking everybody who holds a different view from mine! - just one (that I can think of) who annoys me

Callistemon Thu 25-Apr-19 13:17:30

He's going to smell delicious, Gonegirl!
grin

Callistemon Thu 25-Apr-19 13:19:18

Katek I am quite concerned about what type of glue they used, the components of it and how it affects the atmosphere.
Perhaps someone could enlighten me as to what eco-friendly glues could be used that are so effective.

Callistemon Thu 25-Apr-19 13:24:05

I wonder if the irony of supergluing themselves to offices is understood by the people involved......…
grin gormless gems just about sums it up.

I will listen to Greta or anyone who has valid information but not to a film celebrity who has just jetted in with her wooden knife and fork.

If we all start using disposable wooden cutlery, will they be made from sustainable forests and can we be sure that these forests will be replaced at the rate at which they are devastated?

btw - if you find paper straws disintegrate and are worse than useless, you can buy reusable metal straws which fit into your bag and can be taken home and washed.

gillybob Thu 25-Apr-19 13:25:20

I think anyone unfortunate to work in Lush will develop respiratory problems as they get older ! You can barely breathe in the shops.

Callistemon Thu 25-Apr-19 13:25:56

The above post is confusing!
I was trying to reply to M0nica's* post about Emma Thomson's gormless gems, sorry M0nica.

My copy and paste not working properly! It must be the wrong kind of glue.

Urmstongran Thu 25-Apr-19 13:26:47

Just skip by the commentator(s) you don’t like humptydumpty that way you don’t read them?
