Climate Change Protests - will they make a difference?

There has been so far 3 days of climate change protests in Central London and other locations. They’ve disrupted traffic and inconvenienced a few, but have been in the main peaceful and has had a festival atmosphere. It looks like these protests will continue. Personally I feel climate change is a really important issue and should be the one that our esteemed politicians should be acting on and discussing but they aren’t. I’m in no way part of this group but, with some reservations, applaud their efforts and hope it does bring the issue to the fore. It does highlight how far our police resources are stretched that they can’t be stopped though. If you don’t live or work in the capital you probably don’t care about the protest , but hopefully you do care about the issues, and these protests it may be coming to a town near you. What do others think?

Why are some people SO cynical? Why do some people think ranting about other people's lives is acceptable
Sorry, notentirelyallthere but Emma Thomson does tend to bring out the cynic in me.

Ohhh I do love a visit to lush! The staff are so perky and it smells so lovely.

My dds love it. It’s like primark for the middle classes grin

The only thing is the bath bombs scratch my arse! Still it smells good grin

I have never been in a Lush shop, my friend drags me past as she says, even from the smell outside the door, she starts wheezing.

Mycatisahacker Thu 25-Apr-19 13:57:03

One persons cynical is another persons sense.

Emma should stick to the acting she made herself look an utter idiot.

Maybe there's something in those fumes that they are breathing in every day Mycat wink My 2 elder DGD's love the bath bombs and stuff from lush but the smell in the shop gives me a migraine.

Gonegirl Thu 25-Apr-19 16:35:51

Well, I went in there and I was fine. Mind you, I traced the shop in our shopping mall by smell. grin Bloomin' expensive being a planet saver though. shock

GabriellaG54 Thu 25-Apr-19 17:22:59

Mycatisahacker
You're not supposed to put them in your bottom. They go in the bath. ???
No wonder your bottom's scratched. ?

Gonegirl Thu 25-Apr-19 17:25:01

grin

Callistemon Thu 25-Apr-19 17:27:15

It must be lovely to be able to cycle to a mall.

Ours is so far away

Mycatisahacker Thu 25-Apr-19 17:54:25

Good grief you wierdo have you seen the size of those bath bombs!!! Doesn’t best thinking about! wink

Mycatisahacker Thu 25-Apr-19 18:09:00

gilly

Maybe you are right they do seem abnormally perky!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 02-May-19 08:11:05

Well!

The question in the OP has been very quickly answered and it is

YES.

Our HoC has made history by being the first government in the world to declare an “environment and climate emergency”

Go Extinction Rebellion!!

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 10:07:00

I think it really depends on what happens now.

Declaring a climate change emergency by labour smacks of bandwagon opportunism.

What will the government do? We are already doing a good deal and doing more seems to be eat less meat, fly less etc. All of these things are individual choices that most people want other people to
Do. Not them.

I also think if there is any more disruption of cities people will just see the protesters as a bloody nuisance and I strongly think celebrities and that teenager should be kept well of the air as celebs are hypocrites and the teenager massively annoying to most adults.

However if extinction rebellion has actually kick started proper action then ok good for them.

Of course the real issue is over population but no one is going to take on that poison challase because that involves taking on religions.

Watch this space

crystaltipps Thu 02-May-19 10:43:05

It is use of resources rather than just overpopulation surely , the average American generates 32x more carbon than the average Kenyan, this is not a simple reflection of population numbers.

gillybob Thu 02-May-19 11:13:15

^We are already doing a good deal and doing more seems to be eat less meat, fly less etc. All of these things are individual choices that most people want other people to
Do. Not them^

Exactly Mycat !

I can count on two hand the flights I have taken in all of my 57 years, all of which have been very short, so I guess my carbon footprint is significantly less than many of those who "talk the talk" but don't think they should have to "walk the walk" which is for other people.

gillybob Thu 02-May-19 11:13:46

Oops sorry for messing up your quotation Mycat

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 11:19:10

smile. I am dam sure I fly less than Emma Thompson.

No it’s not simply over population but according to the chief climate change advise committee it’s a huge impact. We are all living longer and some of the religions in this world encourage big families and shun contraception.

No one will address this, and it’s easy to see why.

gillybob Thu 02-May-19 11:25:03

Probably most people fly less that Emma Thompson (nearly put ET but that would be a whole other thread) .

Who is literally a First Class hypocrite !

JenniferEccles Thu 02-May-19 11:33:59

Ah gillybob but don't forget that the Queen of the hypocritical luvvies Emma (I'm so Green) Thomson reckoned she offset her LA to London flight by using wooden knives and forks!!

You couldn't make it up could you?!

gillybob Thu 02-May-19 11:41:32

….and no trees were chopped down in the making of these knives and forks !

Does that woman take us all for idiots? How can she even look at herself in the mirror without laughing ?

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 11:42:39

grin

She seriously didn’t say that did she JenniferEccles good grief the woman is deranged.

So whose for a baby shower weekend in New York anyone?

Why am I thinking this cutting flights is just for the ordinary people and not celebs/royals/politicians and of course climate change warriors flying to summits to discuss how awful flying is. wink

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 11:45:03

Oh they loose all ability to see themselves properly when they start to believe they actually are that important to the world.

See Lily Allen David Lammy, Geldof, Bercow, jolie.

Dillusional and time for their medication.,

gillybob Thu 02-May-19 11:45:38

www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2978463/Emma-Thompson-husband-Greg-Wise-sanctimonious-luvvies.html

"Sanctimonious luvvies" just about sums them up !

Mycatisahacker Thu 02-May-19 11:50:22

Oh I really hope they don’t pay their taxes a prison spell might sort them out.

And anyone who listens to the preposterous Russel Brand needs serious help grin
