Visit of Trump

Well Trump has been invited by those at Buckingham Palace to come to Britain for an official state visit. So we can all forget about Brexit, and stop wringing our hands in dismay at Farage and his antics, and we can turn our attention towards a new fashion, hating Trump.

Discuss.

after all, he wasn't born into money and he's done very nicely thank you.

Really?

Here's a biography of his father who had a real estate business profitable enough to 'loan' his son $14 million in the 1970s.

He's certainly 'common', though not in the way that you imply, GG54...

I do feel sorry for Her Majesty having to meet this vile person. I hope she chooses to wear her lovely blue hat again to show him that he might be Putin's puppet but she is not and still hopes that the UK will remain in the EU.

maryeliza54 Thu 25-Apr-19 17:52:10

I wouldn’t invite someone as ungracious and pig ignorant and sexist and stupid and racist to my house. I just hope he does something really really awful

LuckyFour Thu 25-Apr-19 16:48:08

I don't like Trump, but I think we should be gracious and generous to him for the sake of the American people. Let us show him and them that we are good people.

If someone you didn't agree with or who you thought was a bit of an idiot came to your house you would probably still be civil and treat him or her politely.

maryeliza54 Thu 25-Apr-19 14:36:09

Alexa apparently his utter shit of a father

Alexa Thu 25-Apr-19 14:35:19

grsnnyqueenie see above, made me smile smile

It would be interesting to know what formative influences affected little Donald's childhood.

Callistemon Thu 25-Apr-19 13:55:07

Yes he was and his real estate business was inherited from his father.

grannyqueenie Thu 25-Apr-19 12:37:29

At the risk of lowering the tone here...grin

I don't think the Scots are pleased about his mother, or the golf course he has built there. It's also a prime example of his money losses.

Anja Thu 25-Apr-19 10:36:44

Ian Brady was born in Glasgow to a Scottish mother! ???

Urmstongran Thu 25-Apr-19 10:32:54

I do like the fact that his mother was Scottish.
There must be some good in him.
?

Elegran Thu 25-Apr-19 10:19:28

Ah, but he didn't make his money - he inherited it from his father, along with his father's successful business interests. He has LOST money and damaged the businesses. He now inherits a successful nation and is working hard at damaging that.

I was not refering solely to Donald.

GabriellaG54 Thu 25-Apr-19 09:31:46

I agree Elegran but we have no real idea as to whether the POTUS thinks he's perfect. I very much doubt it.
I think he does what he deems best...in a scatty way, after all, he wasn't born into money and he's done very nicely thank you.
He's more like the common man than a lot of our ministers who are the sort despised by some voters on here.
We can't be judgemental...now can we?
That's frowned on by most GNers.

Elegran Thu 25-Apr-19 08:57:08

"The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank you, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this tax collector" Luke 18:11

It must be nice to be perfect.

Gabriella, you are fast becoming the GN wrist-slapper.

The lovely thing about GN is the diversity. Posters don't have to have one style of writing or limit their vocabulary - because most of us wouldn't use the internet if we were offended so easily. Most of us are not easily shocked and whilst some language may be offensive, not much is, in truth. We'd be violating T&Cs if we really let rip (and no reference to farting intended there.)

You are entitled to your protest though, and your opinions, just as others may think mooning at Trump might serve a purpose.

I am often cheered up by the views of others, who are more blunt or may see things in a very different light.

GabriellaG54 Wed 24-Apr-19 22:07:50

I trust that people 'saying' that they hate Donald Trump, are not churchgoers.
That would not be a good idea.
As for talking about mooning and farting...er...how old is the average GNer?
I have honestly been quite taken aback by some of the language used on GN.
Whether it's seen as more acceptable because it's online and not said aloud in public or at home, I have no idea but it's not language I or my friends use.

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 19:57:07

I think it was rather against Hillary rather than pro Donald.

Wasn’t Bernie Saunders the better option

Callistemon Wed 24-Apr-19 19:55:23

Day6 yes, it is truly astonishing that, in country of about 324 million people, these two are the best that they can come up with.

I don't think that the vast majority wanted him to become President, though. He got fewer votes than Hillary and we don't know what the non-voters think.

Mycatisahacker Wed 24-Apr-19 19:44:26

Yep he’s a big sorry blip! Agree this is about the D Day landings. I don’t think anyone will disrupt that.

I know that once you are president you are basically made for life so I wonder if he would want w second term??

Of course all the bowing and scraping must get inside your head.

I am not a monarchist but how does the queen stay so normal!!!

I know if I had had that life from birth I would be a nightmare grin

Day6 Wed 24-Apr-19 19:40:36

Part of me thinks the alternative to Trump is the odious Hilary Clinton. I felt so sorry for the Americans having to choose between those two nasties. Remember, left wing Clinton is our left wing Emily Thornberry with her hatred of the common man with a white van. Clinton called people who didn't vote for her "deplorables" - and she is still doing it (see link) suggesting the middle class vote for her is worth more than the ones from voters in poor states.

www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2018/03/12/hillary-clinton-takes-her-deplorables-argument-for-another-spin/?noredirect=on&utm_term=.aeee6bc3f5d7

It all really is quite nasty on the left and on the right in the USA.

Like Urmston I think we have to accept that we have received some rather dubious characters from all over the world in the past and given them the honour of a state visit and time with the Queen.

To deny Trump the same honour would be stupid and dangerous imo. America is our ally. There may be a d**k***d in the White House, but whatever he is, he is the POTUS.

I don't like the man at all, but I'd be extremely embarrassed for us as a nation if we made the visit hellish. We'd also be snubbing the American people, the majority of whom wanted to see him become President.

People don't seem to care about discretion any more, but I think it's needed here. A protest, heckling and throwing will serve no purpose whatsoever, except to serve as a day out for yet more right-on virtue-signallers.

I shall hiss at him when he appears on my TV screen from the comfort of my armchair.

Callistemon Wed 24-Apr-19 19:24:40

I am in such a bad temper over him coming to Portsmouth since my 94 year old father-in-law is coming especially for June 5th events and now it will be ruined!

I really do hope not, Edith - this is about much more than Trump. He is just a blip in the passage of time.

‘We don’t want to see Trump in Portsmouth’ says city’s Leader on news of President’s visit

Like many of you I am irked that this offensive man will come to my local city Portsmouth for the 5th June to send off the veterans, as a draft dodger he really is the very last person to appear at such an important, and the last one for these old old men, to celebrate their and their mates sacrifice 75 years ago.

I will be present but will not protest since it could so easily be misconstrued, but we will also be back for the greater celebrations on the following weekend once POTUS has potused off back to the USA
