Well Trump has been invited by those at Buckingham Palace to come to Britain for an official state visit. So we can all forget about Brexit, and stop wringing our hands in dismay at Farage and his antics, and we can turn our attention towards a new fashion, hating Trump.

Discuss.

Looks like there’ll be a few vacancies at the State Dinner then doesn’t it?

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:01:14

They could hold a People’s Ballot for the empty places?

maddyone Fri 26-Apr-19 17:02:01

Maryeliza grin

Anniebach Fri 26-Apr-19 17:14:35

If Corbyn was PM and was snubbed by America !

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:28:56

Well he isn’t so he hasn’t been so what’s your point?

maddyone Fri 26-Apr-19 17:30:28

I wouldn’t like them (Americans) to do that Annie, even though I don’t like Corbyn. I suppose that that brings us back to the position, rather than the person.

maddyone Fri 26-Apr-19 17:31:27

I think Annie’s just making a hypothetical comparison isn’t she?

Callistemon Fri 26-Apr-19 17:33:24

Would we like Americans to snub our Queen on a State visit to America - after all, they did object to the monarchy and became independent on 4th July 1776.

Corbyn would not be going on a state visit, even if he was elected PM.

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:33:41

Yes I know and it’s a waste of time doing that given where we are at the moment. I could expand on that but there’s more interesting things to,post about

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:36:12

But they wouldn’t snub her anyway because even an ardent republican like me acknowledges she never behaves like DT so what would be their reason?

Jabberwok Fri 26-Apr-19 17:36:35

Actually its just plain rude! Picking and choosing which head of state you approve of and which you don't is an insult to the guest country. The Queen has over the years entertained some appalling H's of S as have the leaders of the various political parties, its just something you diplomatically do, whether its China (no democracy there, but a welcome from all, including a trip to the H of C!!) Russia ditto, even the frightful Ceausescu got a diplomatic welcome. Mind you I doubt these light weights will be missed, particularly JC,!!!!

kittylester Fri 26-Apr-19 17:39:17

Bit rich of Corbyn when he is happy to hobnob with the IRA and various other lawless organisations. Bercow is just self serving.

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:40:20

Doing an annie there kitty?

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:41:46

Well maybe we should not entertain in some of the dreadful heads of state we do.

Grandad1943 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:42:30

Jeremy Corbyn is not part of the Government or Crown establishment. Therefore, it is for him to decide if he wishes to attend the Trump state visit functions, and in not doing so I feel he will have the support of the whole Labour movement.

Although, thinking about it I expect the likes of Margret Hodge and Margret Beckett will find fault with the above as usual. No doubt Hodge covertly recorded on her phone Corbyns statement to the media that he would not be attending any of the state visit functions. grin

Callistemon Fri 26-Apr-19 17:48:25

but a welcome from all - apart from Prince Charles, Jabberwok!

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:49:58

Didn’t Charles snub DT when he was here last year?

kittylester Fri 26-Apr-19 17:50:37

Please explain your comment to me, maryeliza

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:52:19

kitty you know very well what my post meant. ?

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 17:53:01

Just looked it up, Wills wouldn’t meet him either. Utterly shocked ??

kittylester Fri 26-Apr-19 17:54:01

I have no idea maryeliza, I would be grateful if you would explain as I suspect it wasnt kindly meant.

Grandad1943 Fri 26-Apr-19 18:00:29

kittylester Quote [Bit rich of Corbyn when he is happy to hobnob with the IRA and various other lawless organisations.] End Quote.

One persons terrorist is another persons freedom fighter kittylester.

I seem to recall that Marget Thacher once addressed Nelson Mandela as a Terrorist, while Winston Churchill spoke of Gandhi as a half-naked Fakir.

How the passage of time can change any perception.

Jabberwok Fri 26-Apr-19 18:04:06

I think P.C and P.W should meet D.T! It's the position of President you're insulting, not the person!

maryeliza54 Fri 26-Apr-19 18:05:14

I’m sure they’ll meet him this time don’t worry

Callistemon Fri 26-Apr-19 18:09:55

Are you saying the people who just killed that young journalist are freedom fighters then, Grandad1943?
