The embarrassment of the Tories

“It is said that those whom the gods wish to destroy they first make mad”
This is a quote in a newspaper editorial, which I thought extremely apt.
The editorial is headed
“Britain is being ruled by a party that has lost its political bearings”
Goes on to outline the reckless ill discipline so evident in the government, and in particular the leak over the Huawei decision, which defied two of the fundamental rules of British government -

Collective responsibility and official secrecy.

We can rely on neither of those concepts with this dreadful government.

If a government fails in such fundamentals it has failed completely.

Why anyone would imagine that the split in the Labour movement wouldn't be found in the Jewish ranks as well as anywhere else I don't know. Is there anti-semitism amongst some members? well yes there almost certainly is, linked of course to anti-zionism and often the two are confused. And often the accusations are made because of the support for Palestine. Anyone who doesn't realise that the support that has been shown for Palestine by some Labour people isn't seen as a threat by some Jewish people is simply ignoring reality.
And the big joke that has been sold to the public so effectively by the Tories that we can't afford proper services is just that, a joke. There is money. There could be proper services and introducing them would pay dividends at every level of society.

One of the major policy differences between Labour and the Tory party is that Labour fully supports bringing an end to Gig Economy terms of employment. Gig Economy employment is not the same as Zero hours contracts, it is in fact far worse than zero hours.

The above has the entire support of the whole Labour movement in the country and also many employers who see such terms of employment as a detriment to the competitiveness of their own companies.

That is where Labour will support working people should a Labour government come about in the near future, as against this Tory government wishing to see Gig terms of working continue as a form of "cheap labour" in today's Britain.

The foregoing was a system of employment that never existed in the 60s, 70s, 80s and early 90s to which many on this forum refer back to as their experiences of employment.

Employment conditions have become far more difficult for many since the millennium.

trisher - just to say that I identify with your last few posts 100%. I grew up in a Northumberland mining town, and that's what has led to my support of socialism. In its many forms.
You express your opinions better than I can smile.

He held the wreath but wasn’t present!

He forwarded the book and praised it and it’s written by a well known anti Semite and full of vile racism but he’s not antisemetic.

Day 6 - the funds are there - at least according to the govt since they have announced that austerity is over. So after 10 years of impoverishment for several members of our society, suddenly everything that's wrong will be sorted. How this has suddenly happened I am at a loss to understand, given the amount of money wasted on Brexit. Today's news - Chris Grayling has cancelled another ferry contract at a cost of £50 million bringing the total to £83 million.

Williamson gone. As we predicted last week.

How many ministers is that now?

maryeliza54 Wed 01-May-19 18:08:12

So why is he not to be prosecuted? Can his constituents hold a recall petition? Will he be allowed to carry on as a member of the Tory Party? So many questions

maryeliza54 Wed 01-May-19 18:12:48

And that man of honour, JRM, said a couple of days ago that the leak was ‘trivial’. Bless.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 18:13:08

He should be. If he doesn’t what does that tell you about this rotten government?

He was never suitable for the job. But then who of any of the ministers are suitable. Difficult to point to a single one of them.

I see that Mogg has written a book about his upbringing. “The Victorians”

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 18:16:08

Oh! How many more millions is Grayling going to waste?

It is breathtaking - the incompetence.

maryeliza54 Wed 01-May-19 18:17:06

If ST and CP were prosecuted, then so should GW be.

maryeliza54 Wed 01-May-19 18:17:59

I think GW’s behaviour is a bit more than incompetent

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 18:38:05

Williamson was the little s..t who tried to blame the civil servants.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 18:43:41

This is a criminal offence. This must be followed through.

What else has been leaked?

maryeliza54 Wed 01-May-19 18:46:05

And what about his severance pay? I think it’s normally about £17 k. Don’t know if it’s taxable though

varian Wed 01-May-19 18:50:13

What does it say about Theresa May's judgement that she appointed Gavin Williamson to such an important and sensitive position?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 18:51:42

May hasn’t aimed much higher though. We now have Mordant “Turkey is joining the EU” . Mordant was rebuked by hew own party, but days later showed her repeating the lie.

maryeliza54 Wed 01-May-19 18:52:49

Well - she appointed BJ as FS

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 18:52:53

I believe Williamson was know as Private Pike because of his utter incompetence. His ego got the better of him.

maryeliza54 Wed 01-May-19 18:54:48

He’s busy denying it on Sky - wow this really is a row. He’s blaming the top civil servant MS. Oh dear this is not going to end well - it’s a fool who takes on a top civil servant.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 18:58:45

So this the third disgraced Defence minister

Liam Fox - sacked for taking his friend (?) Werrity into meetings and trips abroad.

Michael Fallon- problem with his trousers

Gavin Williamson - utter incompetence and criminal leaks.

Not very good are they?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 19:02:20

Trust and Tories are not words that sit well together.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 19:11:17

Judgement and Tories are not words that sit well together.

Serious question about Huawei.

Whitewavemark2 Wed 01-May-19 19:44:11

So far 47 ??? ministers have left or been sacked since this minority government who is only surviving remember by a bribe of £1bn for the support of the DUP, friends of terrorists.

Williamsgate looks as if it will have legs.

Williams is claiming a stitch up.

Every opposition leader is requesting a police investigation.

Right wing press are smelling something fishy and beginning to mutter about May.

Some will use it as an excuse to get Mays blood.

This is going to run.
