She strides onto the podium, her every movement is confident and controlled. She speaks with passion and authority and still manages to connect with her audience. How come we can't produce a politician with such panache?
Oh and she does selfies without looking as if it is all a set up.

ah butUrmstongran there were many who voted NO in teh Independence referendum because we were told staying in the UK was the ONLY way we could stay in the EU.Fast foward and the circumstances have certainly changed. We are about to be dragged out against our will...62% voted remain.Just yesterday a french spokesman told us that if we leave the UK our place in the UK will be seamlessly held ...we already have the EU laws in place ,so no queue and no reason why we cant just take the UK's place .*Jane 10* you wouldn't like the virgin Mary if she was a member of the SNP ....its that SNP BAD issue that you have .lol

Ah I totally get that angle paddyann and have agreed with your reasoning totally in the past. It just seems however that the majority is not with you? I don’t blame you at all for trying. But if you are in the minority you must surely sympathise with those whose majority votes seem brushed aside (like us Leavers over Brexit). That was the point I was making.

I think she is cold, no warmth in her face or voice

Chewbacca Sun 28-Apr-19 21:41:05

I don't like Wee Nicky, or her politics, but I do admire her style; she always looks polished and professional. Wonder if she could take Corbyn to task and smarten him up a bit? Just getting rid of his socks and sandals would be a start.......

Anniebach Sun 28-Apr-19 22:04:08

And his Russian Revolution hat

Jane10 Sun 28-Apr-19 22:08:58

But paddyann I haven't met the virgin Mary! Maybe she could run the country better?

Alima Sun 28-Apr-19 22:11:16

No, no Chewbacca! Don’t get rid of anything else please. A nude Jeremy Corbyn would be just too much.

Little Jimmy Krankie springs to mind!

Both her and AM seem like women in the lovely French phrase ‘bien dans sa peau’. Comfortable with themselves and who they are. I found it heartening on this thread that so many posters could respond to the OP positively whilst not being ‘fans’ of what NS stood for. What I really respect about her is her commitment to the SNP from an early age and when it was not very successful. I think she stood for election several times before she was elected. She certainly didn’t have it easy on the road to leadership.

FFS * GG* - what I have noticed is a number of posters on GN who think making comments like that acceptable. The OP was about presence and speaking but why be grown up when you can indulge in childish comments?

Mycatisahacker Mon 29-Apr-19 08:02:27

Good grief what a silly comment re mean lips!

As I said I don’t agree with Nicola but I think she has dignity and gravitas. 2 things sadly lacking in most politicians

annodomini Mon 29-Apr-19 08:28:46

What an idiotic generalisation, GG54. On behalf of my fellow Scots, I take strong exception to your unsubstantiated opinion.

Jane10 Mon 29-Apr-19 08:30:36

Ooh my lips are thinning with rage!

maryeliza54 Mon 29-Apr-19 09:22:53

Well - better thin/mean lips than a thin/mean mind any day

Niobe Mon 29-Apr-19 09:28:32

Well said Maryeliza54!

Mycatisahacker Mon 29-Apr-19 09:34:42

Yes hear hear Maryeliza

Quite a racist remark

Witzend Mon 29-Apr-19 09:51:41

Has she always been 'bien dans sa peau', though?

I seem to recall seeing before-and-after-the-complete-makeover photos. I'm not sure she was so happy in her own skin (or hair) before, or at least she didn't think they were doing her any favours politically.

TerriBull Mon 29-Apr-19 09:53:33

Just as some Scottish posters here can't stand English politicians, equally there are those of us who feel the same about Nicola Sturgeon. In our house we automatically reach for the off button as soon as her shrill voice enters our eardrums, we value our hearing far too much.

Mycatisahacker Mon 29-Apr-19 09:54:15

Well a makeover makes anyone feel better. We all need a bit of help re hair and makeup.

MawBroonsback Mon 29-Apr-19 09:54:52

Good grief GG would you make the opposite observation about e.g.Afro- Caribbean people?
For sheer dumb-cluckery, that takes the biscuit!

maryeliza54 Mon 29-Apr-19 09:59:08

Bien dans sa peau isn’t a physical thing at all - another example is Mary Beard

Gonegirl Mon 29-Apr-19 10:04:11

I think appearance can show who you really are. She always looks neat and efficient. I did notice she is getting a bit of a tummy on her. (punches air! In commiseration of course)

trisher Mon 29-Apr-19 11:06:24

Thanks for all the comments. I think we all know that politicians have people who advise and mentor them to improve their public image, so I do wonder, if it has worked as some think for Nicola Sturgeon why on earth is Mrs May still as she is? Is she too old to change? Or is it something else that keeps her looking either shifty, uncomfortable and embarrassed or schoolmarmy and dictatorial. In other words why could NS change but TM can't?

Gonegirl Mon 29-Apr-19 11:50:36

I guess it's in the eye of the beholder....
