Baby's on the way.....

It just seemed very odd that in one news bulletin the Beeb said that the baby was born in hospita,l and five minutes later, in the same bulletin, a reporter said no one knew where the baby was born. And that was the day after the birth.

Can't quite get my head round that. grin

And let's face it, it all got a bit too much for poor old Nicholas Witchell, didn't it. And he's got all that experience of 'em.

Mycatisahacker Wed 08-May-19 09:31:36

But why should we want to know the details anyway?? It’s her business not ours.

Fennel Wed 08-May-19 09:33:08

All the fuss - that's what sells papers.
Basically woman has a baby - parents and baby doing well.
Good.

Gonegirl Wed 08-May-19 09:40:35

Well, blame the BBC for mentioning the place of birth at all.

And actually, a lot of women who have had home births themselves (me included) are bound to be interested in her having a home birth. They are becoming rarer these days.

Can't see any point in all the confusion being caused by them. It seems a bit silly.

The RF manipulate the media all the time and have a smooth highly professional PR machine to protect and promote them which works most of the time. I’m heartily fed up of this birth but that’s true of all the royal births. I think Diana and Kate did all women a disservice by posing on the hospital steps but then I think Kate and Meghan do all women a disservice in embracing so gladly the roles of royal clothes horses. FWIW all we should be told is that the birth has happened sex and weight. I think Hand M haven’t and don’t help themselves with this Inststagram rubbish and apparently wanting to be different. As for a photo - I think the idea of one photographer a few day’s afterwards is fine and actually to be expected. Personally I may be taking an anti-emetic as avoiding the sugar rush on its way will be impossible. I also think that some criticism of MM in general is predicated upon racism and the RF have never lead the way on being racially inclusive with staff for example until very recently.

Gonegirl Wed 08-May-19 09:41:56

But I don't feel in the least bit bitter and twisted about it! Cross my heart. grin

Gonegirl Wed 08-May-19 09:43:08

I'm not fed up with it. I've been looking forward to it. Still am looking forward to the photo-shoot, or whatever they've got planned.

maryeliza54 Wed 08-May-19 09:45:07

The idea that her home birth would have borne the slightest resemblance to a normal home birth is absolutely risable btw and very misleading. It’s probably better really that she went to hospital ( if she did) as otherwise you’d have RF supporting women wanting to follow her example of a home birth like they want to copyher fashion in clothes

Mycatisahacker Wed 08-May-19 09:45:10

MaryEliza

For a feminist you are very critical of these young women.

Chill

Gonegirl Wed 08-May-19 09:45:37

It might be quite fun if she has produced a black ginger haired baby

Gonegirl Wed 08-May-19 09:46:36

That is not racist HQ. Just factual.

Bridgeit Wed 08-May-19 09:50:15

How times have changed, I believe my Greatgranny (& many other besides ) had all of her 11 children at home & that was the norm, lots of boiled water & torn up sheets.
Now there are options , thank goodness for progress , but sadly progress doesn’t appear to have taken place in some peoples minds.

stella1949 Wed 08-May-19 09:54:07

I'm with Maryeliza54 - it's crazy to think that a Royal "home birth" would resemble any regular home birth. The Duchess would be surrounded by hand-picked doctors and nurses, and every type of medical help you could think of. Nothing would be left to chance.

Gonegirl Wed 08-May-19 09:56:11

Well, if that's the case Stella1949, why did they take her to hospital? confused

Gonegirl Wed 08-May-19 09:57:35

What progress hasn't taken place in some people's minds Bridgeit? I don't understand.

Gonegirl Wed 08-May-19 09:58:22

No boiled water or torn sheets when I had mine in 1972.

Mycatisahacker Wed 08-May-19 10:02:52

what hasn’t changed is the bitching about other women’s choices and the outright racism on this thread.

Bridgeit Wed 08-May-19 10:03:36

You will perhaps need to read back through the thread GoneGirl, ( think Les Dawson,s characters the arms folded
women who loved a good old gossip)

Mycatisahacker Wed 08-May-19 10:04:00

Not accusing you of racism gonegirl just generally being nosy grin

eazybee Wed 08-May-19 10:05:30

Apparently the place of birth has to be recorded on the birth certificate. I wonder if the myth of a home birth would have been perpetrated had that not been so.

I think the Duchess of Sussex has discovered , like the rest of us, that deliveries rarely go as planned. I hope there will be, fairly soon, a snapshot or two of the proud parents and child, and then, no more. Please no staged photo shoot in Our Beautiful Home, gardens being out because of the weather.

maryeliza54 Wed 08-May-19 10:13:52

As a radical feminist I’m critical of many women. Feminism does not equate with supporting any woman in whatever she says or does. There are many women who profoundly damage women and the lives they live and they will be criticised by me as and when I see fit. I cannot for example think of one positive thing to say about Karie Hopkins ( and that’s just for starters).

maryeliza54 Wed 08-May-19 10:15:46

I doubt she had an ITU and SCBU set up so there would have been a point when hospital was the safest option to cover all bases.

Mycatisahacker Wed 08-May-19 11:03:02

I don’t see it’s in the lease feminist to criticise women’s birth choices or when they choose to show themselves and their babies to the public.

That’s not my idea of being a feminist. No idea what a radical feminist is?

Is that just being a more feminist feminist wink

maryeliza54 Wed 08-May-19 11:11:33

I didn’t criticise her birth choice. But yes criticising the pressure that is put on other women by appearing picture perfect on the hospital steps is to be criticised. As for today’s photos - if they are low key fine but do you remember the engagement photos? And clearly mycat your understanding of feminism and it’s various strands could clearly do with being expanded
