Oh dear, what a disasterous state we are in. May will resign, and who else is there? To get Brexit done and dusted we need a fervent Brexiteer! Boris? Gove? Davis?

What about Jacob Reese-Mogg? He seems to talk a lot of sense.

But, sadly, there doesn't seem to be a 'Shining Star' in the Tory party!

Who was it who said, 'Every politician's career ends in failure'? Enoch Powel, I think. And that's so true! No politician ever leaves office on a 'high'. It's always on a 'defeat'.

If you are a Tory member with a vote for OUR next PM please tell me what you actually know about JRMs "sensible views" on the Human Rights Act, same sex marriage, abortion, zero hours contracts, climate change, etc., etc. It would kill the Tory party stone dead. Actually, this might be the way to go, thinking about it. More than anyone bar Boris, "Never Trust a Tory" applies to this man.

I think probably Gove has the most experience. Boris doesn’t do detail. The rest are not in any way up to the job.

Keeping an eye on the private court case brought by Marcus Ball against BJ as a liar. Surely if he's found to be a liar it puts him out of the leadership race? We might hope so at least.

I don't quite understand why the Government keep asking TM to name the day she's going. Surely they tell her when her time is up if they're dissatisfied with her performance? Is it because no one has a clue what to do when she's no longer there to take the flak?

I doubt it Ginny (Fri 24-May-19 08:22:51 ). Isn't the Tory party the party of "as long as you win it doesn't matter how immoral you are or what laws you break? Obviously, if an ordinary person behaved, in the same way, they would bring back hanging in an instant.

Boris Johnson may be colourful and bring a bit of energy to things,but he is seen by many around the world as a bit of a buffoon. Do we really want someone with that image as leader of our governing party? David Mellor on BBC Breakfast this morning, suggested Jeremy Hunt, what do you think of that? I wouldn't even give credence to Esther McVey, who just doesn't seem a serious politician to me, maybe because over the years I've seen her on daytime TV in her other role. You need someone with a bit of clout, a bit of gravitas, a sense of humour, patience, and someone who the country will approve of, as well as party members. No more division, no more bickering, just get on with the job of governing. I feel sorry for Theresa May, it can't be comfortable working with a bunch of people who are obviously against you, a bit like being back at school and being the odd one out because for some reason, none of the other children like you.

I am deeply disturbed by the idea that senior Tories can seriously imagine that Johnson is prime minister material - what can they be thinking of?

Fat chance.

Johnson is certainly in the front of the race at present, but his leadership is by no means assured.

As one senior Tory put it. Johnson is ok as long as he keeps his mouth shut.
The longer the leadership contest goes on the more likely Johnson will issue a statement making it clear what an idiot he is.

But nevertheless we have to consider seriously what is likely to take place if he indeed wins the contest.

One thing for sure the numbers in the HoC won’t have changed, indeed there is a possibility that some Tory mps could not live with Johnson as leader and leave to join their colleagues on chuk.
That would leave Johnson with a minority, ungovernable government. End of story.
However if he is still left with a small minority, the numbers in HoC remain the same and as far as Brexit us concerned there will still be no majority for anything.
That leaves us imo with a high risk of no deal leave. I suspect that Brussels are taking this risk extremely seriously and are actively planning for this.
Brussels are of the opinion that Johnson is an unreliable liar who simply is impossible to deal with.

So no deal it will be. As Johnson has said “bugger business”

I seem to remember a time when the Conservative Party claimed to be "the party of business". Now it seems likely they will elect a leader how has openly said "F**k Business".

According to David Mellor (remember him and his Chelsea shirt?) on BBC Breakfast there are 17 candidates, but that was this morning so perhaps there are more now - all utterly dreadful.
