GRANY Thank you for flagging this up. Well worth the capitals in this instance to shout the news that things could change.
As is said at the beginning, we have a crisis of economic security. It will certainly not be solved by the Ultra-wealthy of the Tory party who only want to increase their own hold on the economics of the country and thus increase their own wealth.
We can all see that, as is said in the introduction to Dr Standing's outline of his report, government policy has increasingly leaned away from providing financial support whilst leaning towards increasingly managing people's lives through sanctions and so on.
It is, of course, typical of the Tories, who always want to be "nanny". But what a harsh and wicked "nanny" they have turned out to be. The impacts their policies have had on poverty, destitution and economic insecurity are rightly highlighted. In work poverty and economic insecurity affecting almost half the households in this country is an indictment of the Tory policies over the last 10 years. Their attempt to rescued the economy, from the same world-wide crises all other countries suffered from, by rewarding those who caused it and turning this country back to Victorian times for those who they made pay for their own mistakes.
Work alone is no guarantee of security and flogging a dying horse because it can't work harder never improves either the personal economy or the countries.
It is good to see the Labour Party listening and taking on board what is being said. The report is not a Labour Party report and is well worth listening to by everyone, although, of course, it is noticeable that those who know little or nothing about Basic Income are the first to decry something they declare they will not even watch. Now that does make me worry about the future of this country. I'm not sure if this is due to tribal epistemology or the Dunning Kruger effect but they will never know because they 'don't do experts' or even increasing their knowledge, do they?
