A Party Political Broadcast on behalf of The Brexit Party is on BBC1
tonight 18.55pm.

I've watched nearly all The Brexit Party rallies live on Facebook his last one in London had 8,000 watching online. Nearly all the rallies you can see on YouTube.

'But what was most striking was the slickness of the presentation: brisk, elegantly structured speeches and warm-up videos'.....sounds like one of those organisations that persuade you into pyramid sales or joining a religious cult [imo]...

I think that is a good analogy Labaik. Don't forget that apart from the money at their disposal, they have learned a lot from Steve Bannon and other American sponsors of populism. Trump rallies were very similar with cheerleaders whipping up hysteria.

Exactly Labaik- and it costs lots and lots of money for professionals to organise- who is paying for it all?

Labaik Sat 25-May-19 13:16:12

And, for some reason these rallies seem to pop up on my facebook page; even though I don't 'follow' Farage he seems to 'follow' me #stuffofnightmares

Hi smile
I'd never been to Lakeside before and was a bit surprised as I'd only seen it on tv as being the venue for darts matches...in the days of smoking indoors (how long ago and how weird that now seems)
Quite a mixed bunch, more younger (30-50) age group than I would have imagined and yes, bit of a party atmosphere.
It remi fed me of seeing Billy Graham at Sheffield in the 80s. Not the same numbers or quite the same fervour but some similarities.
All about faith. winkgrin
Enjoy the ☀️ grin

You must have felt somewhat out of your comfort zone GabbyG among all those 30-50 year olds. Did they think somebody had brought their —gran— mum along? grin

GabriellaG54 Sat 25-May-19 15:37:41

Ah...no.
Perhaps you didn't read it correctly. Glasses on? Good.
I'll clarify.
There were more 39- 50 yr olds than I expected might turn up but they were not the dominant demographic.
Ok? Good grin
Back to your knitting.

GabriellaG54 Sat 25-May-19 15:39:17

39-50 30-50

GillT57 Sat 25-May-19 15:43:28

so what did you get for your money GG54? I am curious as I have never ever felt the need to go and listen to a charlatan politician speaking. Was Nigel being all calm and reasonable, all measured tones? I bet he didn't let the harridan Widdecombe speak, she may be his biggest mistake with her shrill hectoring tones. How she says stuff is bad enough, let alone the old testament content.

GabriellaG54 Sat 25-May-19 15:43:32

I'm never out of my comfort zone in any age group, class or social situation.
My circle is mostly 40-50s.

GabriellaG54 Sat 25-May-19 16:00:37

It was a sparky, smooth, slick and well presented 'operation' and everyone I spoke to enjoyed being part of it.

MawBroonsback Sat 25-May-19 16:19:51

Not knitting, not glasses other than sunglasses ? !
30-50, must have been younger than your own children!

Labaik Sat 25-May-19 16:20:37

Interesting that you're quite partial to going to these evangelical type events and see a similarity; so do you not think there could be an element of indoctrination going on here?

GillT57 Sat 25-May-19 16:20:49

Did Widdecombe get up to speak GG54? Or was she kept out of people's hearing? I can understand the attraction of the smooth Farage, telling people what they want to hear in his nice Home Counties' accent, but Anne Widdecombe is like finger nails down a blackboard.

MawBroonsback Sat 25-May-19 16:39:06

Let’s face it, with May gone, nobody is going to give a toss about the Brexit party’s results anyway.

Firecracker123 Sat 25-May-19 16:40:21

Why don't you look at the rallies on YouTube you might be converted lol.

crystaltipps Sat 25-May-19 16:45:11

Converted to the true faith. The one true saviour. Maybe a bit of healing for the faithful after you’ve given him some money. What’s the betting he’ll spend some of it on getting his teeth done, they look a bit yellow on the telly.

GabriellaG54 Sat 25-May-19 16:51:23

No. All my AC are within the 30-50 age group. grin

GabriellaG54 Sat 25-May-19 16:56:34

?? I agree with your description of 'fingernails down the blackboard' which is quite funny.

GabriellaG54 Sat 25-May-19 17:03:27

I accompanied a blind, staunchly Catholic friend to the Sheffield 'rally' in 1985...quite a few years ago don't you think, so 34 years between is hardly a habit and it was at her request.
You're right out of order trying to be smart.

Labaik Sat 25-May-19 17:06:29

I'm not trying to be smart. I'm just curious. And I find it all a bit creepy, to be honest.
