Horrified by Alabama Abortion law

I am horrified by the new ruling that makes abortion illegal in the state of Alabama with not even exceptions for rape or incest victims .

The only exception is if the mothers life is endangered . Am I right in thinking this new law puts women back 100 years with no ability to make decisions about their own bodies ?

What are your thoughts ?

maryeliza54 Wed 15-May-19 18:55:27

And your point is ag ( plus the evidence of course)?

Kandinsky Wed 15-May-19 18:56:56

And yes I agree, abortion is very convenient for men. I doubt many of the women who have an abortion would do so if they had love & support from the father.

notanan2 Wed 15-May-19 18:57:18

There absolutely are people who have multiple abortions because they use them as birth control.

If your definition of birth control is not wanting to remain pregnant... well yes!

And there are indeed men out there whose chosen form of contraception is "its her problem" after the event . Do you mean them?

Mycatisahacker Wed 15-May-19 18:58:15

I don’t care is a woman uses abortion as a method of contraception

I don’t care if it’s her first time and it’s an accident

I don’t think it’s appropriate to ask a woman how/why/when she got pregnant

I think it’s abortion on demand for what ever reason the pregnant woman ferns necessary

And I bloody well know it’s no-ones business but here

Mycatisahacker Wed 15-May-19 18:59:42

Kadinsky

Sorry I don’t say this lightly but nonsense

agnurse Wed 15-May-19 18:59:52

If a woman wanted to kill her newborn, would that be no one's business but hers?

If a woman wanted to end her own life, would that be no one's business but hers?

Was slavery no one's business but that of the slave owners?

We are talking about another human life here.

I agree completely. This is why in addition to making abortion illegal, we need to eliminate the circumstances that encourage women to view abortion as an option. Many pro-life people, myself included, support such initiatives.

Pro-life = anti-choice

paddyann Wed 15-May-19 19:06:27

surely that depends on when you believe life begins? AGNURSEConception or birth ? When the foetus is viable? Otherwise IF it cant survive without the mother then its not a being in its own right so the mother is responsible for her body and yes it really is no ones business but hers.As I said before I dont know anyone who thinks abortions are a good thing but they are sadly a necessity for many .

Jane10 Wed 15-May-19 19:08:30

Hear hear!

Kandinsky Wed 15-May-19 19:09:22

That’s the thing, abortion on demand makes men’s lives easier & gets them off the hook. All they say is ‘get rid of it’ & walk away, leaving the poor woman emotionally scared for life. ( I know not all women feel bad after an abortion & many feel relief, but I doubt they’re ever really the same again )

Mycatisahacker Wed 15-May-19 19:13:27

agnurse

If s baby is in the womb it’s the woman’s right to choose.

Until birth

Mycatisahacker Wed 15-May-19 19:15:42

in addition to making abortion illegal

I don’t say this lightly but fuck off away from me and my dds and make your own choices.

Or just actually fuck off!

maryeliza54 Wed 15-May-19 19:16:50

So men only started being irresponsible about impregnating women when abortion became easier? What a lie. What a lie.

maryeliza54 Wed 15-May-19 19:20:48

ag and Kadinsky what makes you hate women so much? I loved every minute of my pregnancy, I loved my changing body, I loved lying in bed watching dd kick and turn. I loved it all so much that I would never ever never ever want a woman to go through pregnancy if she didn’t want to.

SueDonim Wed 15-May-19 19:49:20

Does it not cross anyone's mind that a woman who has multiple abortions and is seen as using it as contraception has probably got a lot of other things going on in her life as well?

I don't see that having a TOP is that easy. You have to make appointments to see doctors, you have to take one pill, then another. You have to cope with the physical effects, which, if anything like a miscarriage, can't be a bundle of laughs. It really doesn't seem that convenient to me and something you'd do for fun.

Really, if those legislating against abortions are that bothered by women having agency over their own bodies why don't they force pregnant woman to live in state-run camps for the duration of pregnancy, monitoring their every move so the foetus comes to no harm? After all, a woman could cause a miscarriage by riding a horse or eating soft cheese or climbing a mountain or any one of a million things.

This is pure misogyny. angry

Mycatisahacker Wed 15-May-19 19:58:10

Maryeliza

Yes yes yes totally agree.

I would have safe spaces around abortion clinics and prosecute any one hassling a woman seeking an abortion or advice in one as a hate crime.

Mycatisahacker Wed 15-May-19 20:02:06

I find anyone who feels it necessary to try and control a woman’s choice over her body as Weird and frightening.

Beckett Wed 15-May-19 20:03:15

So the existence of a foetus unable to survive outside the womb is more important than the woman carrying it? Are women to be considered as merely incubators with no rights over their own bodies?

agnurse Wed 15-May-19 20:07:52

This is not about making women incubators. This is about recognizing that an unborn child has rights.

You can't just abandon your newborn - the police will be after you. Why is it any different for an unborn baby?

GrannyGravy13 Wed 15-May-19 20:15:06

agnurse. The living, talking, breathing female has rights.

The 11 year old raped by a family member has the right not to carry the resulting pregnancy to term.

The female taking contraception who unaccountably finds herself pregnant has the right not to carry on with the pregnancy.

Our bodies no one Male or Female should have control over us other than ourselves.

Mycatisahacker Wed 15-May-19 20:16:26

Agnurse

The cord dear!

A pregnant woman should have total rights over her body. Once a baby is out if her body that baby has rights,

Seriously how can you not grasp that

Mycatisahacker Wed 15-May-19 20:17:37

An unborn child has no rights.

The pregnant woman does until the baby is born

Summerlove Wed 15-May-19 20:18:05

Agnurse, I agree with you on so much. On this we will disagree. Women should have agency over their bodies. If a fetus can’t live outside the womb, it really should fall on the woman’s decision. Sex Ed and birth control in America, especially the south, aren’t as widely available as they are in most of Canada (ignoring Ontario).

You constantly advocate for adult children to make their Own choices and that they have the right to cut off their parents. Why should women have less rights over their own body?

The georgia laws Where a woman could be arrested for having a miscarriage if they feel it has been an abortion either ridiculous. A woman’s choice on her body has nothing to do with you.
