Banning milkshakes to save Farage

Well Newcastle got him today but police in Edinburgh asked McDonald's not to sell milkshakes whilst he was there. What do you think? Is he fair game? Is it OK to target right wing politicians? Or should milkshakes be banned?

Whatever we might think of Farage (not much, in my case), to throw anything at him is childish and silly at best. It might even make him look a victim and martyr in some eyes.
We should try to win our case by reasoned argument, not by physical assault.

jura2 Tue 21-May-19 17:48:29

Agreed, 100%

maryeliza54 Tue 21-May-19 18:23:19

POGS it wasn’t simply an egg thrown at JC and the fact that you are perpetuating this minimisation shows just how unbalanced the coverage of that incident was.

maryeliza54 Tue 21-May-19 18:24:25

Well vintage good luck with reasoned argument with NF.

Mycatisahacker Tue 21-May-19 18:28:07

POGS

Google it actually it was a nasty attack on Corbyn and looked painful and frightening to be fair.

Agree though this has to stop.

To those of you who are against violent protest, you're right.
What I meant was, most Tynesiders are kind, tolerant people with a lovely witty sense of humour. I grew up here, and still live here. After some time away.
But everywhere these days there seems to be some mentally deranged person who uses this kind of visit to express their feelings.
I see Farage as a selfseeking opportunist with fascist, racist views. Jumping on the bandwagon of the current worldwide 'populist ' movement.
He probably came because a lot of Tyneside constituencies voted Leave in the referendum. But in my view not because of racist views like his, but there's a strong sense of solidarity here, community spirit. We can survive on our own etc.

Having spent some years living on Tyneside, I very much agree Fennell, but it is interesting to note that in the recent local elections on Tyneside, the LibDems picked up votes from Labour.

I did not trivialise anything.

I did not play partisan politics.

I stated whether it be Corbyn/Farage, left/right of politics the harrasment of politicians is not acceptable.

I stand by my point. If a person condones or agrees with what happened to either Corbyn/Farage they are part of the wider problem of the cess pit our politics and general behaviour which we are sadly now wallowing in.

It is either a principle or not.

I am not perpetuating any misinformation because I have not given any information other than to say it was wrong.

You are twisting one of my posts again, ironically even when I am defending Corbyn against being harassed.

An official of a local Happiness Charity (they promote happiness in the city) has been suspended for tweeting:

"Bravo to Paul Crowther, good on you mate. Great that milkshakes have become a thing when it comes to the racists in our midst. I'd prefer acid but milkshakes will do for now I guess."

What has this country come to when someone who claims to be charitable makes such obnoxious comments.

EllanVannin Tue 21-May-19 19:55:53

John Prescott gave a chap a left hook for throwing an egg at him-------well done to JP !

DoesAnyoneKnow Tue 21-May-19 19:57:52

Charities are about the employees, the service users are a side issue to gain revenue from government, business or the public - for these businesses now.

maryeliza54 Tue 21-May-19 20:00:53

POGS your description of it being a thrown egg was inaccurate and minimised the incident.

Fennel Tue 21-May-19 20:07:58

Come on Trisher - what do you say?
Don't leave me on my own to defend Newcastle!

Mycatisahacker Tue 21-May-19 20:10:08

Beckett

I hope he’s prosecuted for inciting violence.

Hideous words

maryeliza54 Tue 21-May-19 20:24:02

mycat she not he. I could hardly believe what she had tweeted. She’s been sacked btw.

Callistemon Tue 21-May-19 20:24:02

I disapprove of perfectly good food being wasted.

crystaltipps Tue 21-May-19 20:28:13

Day 6 Who cares who formed it? But every word Brexit Party members put out about the present EU shambles is true. We have been deceived.
There are no Members of the Brexit Party except Farage. He spouts lies all the time. We can make a list

Mycatisahacker Tue 21-May-19 20:48:10

Oops she!

What a terrible mistake and the acid commrnt!!! Eewww

Elvive Tue 21-May-19 21:13:09

What on earth EV........you can't say things like that? Poor little babies parading round in their suits and a baddie throws an egg at them or a milkshake?

You can't advocate violence surely?

Chewbacca Tue 21-May-19 21:41:19

It would appear, from reading some posts on this thread, that it's perfectly acceptable to throw missiles at someone, just so long as you don't agree with their point of view or dislike the politics of the recipient.

If a missile is thrown at someone who's views you respect and admire; then it's an outrage and should be condemned.

It's quite interesting to see who has double standards and can adjust their moral compass to suit.

trisher Tue 21-May-19 22:19:59

Sorry Fennel come late to the argument after a day out performing in a suffragette drama. I wonder at those people who keep telling me how anti-racist and non-fascist NF is. Do they not know his history? Do they not know he sang "Gas'em all" when he was a student, that he has been photographed in the company of some of the most right wing people around and that he has always held extreme right wing views?

crystaltipps Tue 21-May-19 22:31:45

Yes they do know, but now think he is a saviour come to rescue them and give them all the promised extra money, opportunities and better public services that are going to come our way when Brexit happens , or maybe 30 years after Brexit happens, who knows. Well at least it will be better than WW2 so It must be good.

jura2 Wed 22-May-19 10:42:11

Chewbacca, I agree, and have said throughout this thread that throwing that milkshake was wrong and unhelpful and turns him into a martyr and gets him sympathy.

But let's put a bit of perspective on this - this is the Farage who said to a public audience that he would 'pick up a gun and take to the streets' if Brexit is not delivered sad Just seen a video of young Femi, a remain activisit who is always calm, composed, well spoken and immensely well informed - being abused in the most appaling way at the Brexit P conference yesterday- drinks thrown at him, being called a fu**ing traitor, again and again- so the hypocrisy is vast.

trisher Wed 22-May-19 10:43:36

crystaltipps OMG it is scary. And perhaps a milkshake is just evidence that there are people in Newcastle who won't fall for him or his right wing policies and who will stand against this bigot no matter how much his supporters try to whitewash him.
