Remainers keep asking for a Confirmatory vote well in my opinion this is it. All voters have one Vote use it today to vote Leave or Remain at your polling station.

Official results on Sunday night but feel free to do a GN vote here as well if so inclined.

Witzend Thu 23-May-19 18:41:44

Of course it's not officially a 2nd referendum, GracesGran, but masses of people are voting as if it were, i.e.for the party that best supports Remain or Leave, as the case may be.

I suspect that a lot of people who usually vote Labour will be putting their X elsewhere, ditto disaffected Tories. Presumably habitual LD or SNP supporters will mostly be voting as usual.

They had a light hearted poll in our town centre last week which is in a Brexit area. Display board showed strong majority for Remain, but ofcourse it was self selecting, as this thread is. I voted Lib Dem today, but am in a street of Brexiters sad.

Waiting outside

GabriellaG54 Thu 23-May-19 19:13:08

Ahhh...tiny tot. smile

Lazigirl Thu 23-May-19 19:14:48

Hope he/she voted Lib Dem!

Gonegirl Thu 23-May-19 19:15:59

EllanVannin they were very long forms!

Whitewavemark2 Thu 23-May-19 19:22:38

Yes one of us voted Lib Dem the other Green - hedging our bets

Grammaretto Thu 23-May-19 19:30:45

We did the same whitewave.
By-elections are always an opportunity to protest against the incumbent government. This is no different but it will be hugely expensive.

varian Thu 23-May-19 19:40:58

Any kind of brexit would be hugely expensive - and not just in economic terms.

GracesGranMK3 Thu 23-May-19 19:44:41

As I previously pointed out Witzend, a poll at the weekend found that 49% said they were voting to indicate their preference re Brexit or the EU. I appreciate that if you and you friends see it that way you may think everyone does but that simply isn't true.

Farage promises something that he cannot deliver, the UK cannot just "walk away" from the EU, despite what people might think.

GabriellaG54 Thu 23-May-19 19:56:23

Sounds like something out of Hotel California.
'You can check out any time you want but you can never leave'. grin

jura2 Thu 23-May-19 20:01:23

varian - as I previously said, perhaps the most 'expensive' thing will be the brain and skills drain. Already we know that EU doctors, nurse, researchers, plumbers, builders, etc, etc - are not coming any longer, are actually leaving. But if we get a No Deal Brexit- I predict that it will be our own home bred of all the above who will desert the country- seeking much better and open opportunities elsewhere, in the EU and out.

dizzyblonde Thu 23-May-19 20:03:54

The whole family voted Lib Dem in the hope of keeping the Brexit party out. Fingers crossed.

LadyGracie Thu 23-May-19 20:07:52

Democracy went out of the window nearly 3 years ago whichever way you voted.

Labaik Thu 23-May-19 20:14:32

We did LibDem/Green. I thought my Green vote might be a mistake but was prepared to take a gamble. Irritated today by a long time forum [not this one] 'friend' who I've always liked and got on with very well saying he's getting an Irish passport; I'm pretty sure he's a leave voter. Shouldn't be allowed [imo].

jura2 Thu 23-May-19 20:25:34

Like all those British expats living in France and Spain, etc, who voted Leave sad
and now bitterly complain they are going to be affected sad

jura2 Thu 23-May-19 20:27:13

Did someone reply Labaik - when are the WTO elections?

Surely Leave voters will not wish to be ruled by unelected bureaucrats from Geneva, have tariffs and quotas set by those same unelected bureaucrats - and be at the beck and call of 164 countries, with NO say. Would they?

Welshwife Thu 23-May-19 21:05:49

As Brits living in another EU country we elected to vote here despite receiving our voting papers from the U.K. - you are honour bound to only vote in one country.
There are specific rules for people living in another EU country to the one which issues their passport. The U.K. only allows you to vote for 15 years after migrating and that is for referendums and General elections - you are not allowed to vote in local elections. In France we are allowed to vote in Municipal elections and the EU referendums - not Presidential elections or for MPs.
So the EU citizens living in U.K. who were turned away and told to vote in their own country were being told wrong information by an official who was ignorant of the rules.

kittylester Thu 23-May-19 21:11:48

We went at 5 (ish) and had to wait for a booth. We were told that there was a good turn out and the second box was almost full.

Witzend Thu 23-May-19 21:54:27

Exactly, GGMK3 - so a good many people are not treating it as a normal MEP election, but as a means of registering their feelings re Brexit or Remain.

I suspect that the turnout will be rather greater than usual for MEP elections, where turnout is usually pretty dismal. As for opinion polls, they've been embarrassingly way out more than once - embarrassing for the pollsters, I mean.

phoenix Thu 23-May-19 22:03:24

I know of 2 people (not myself) who went to their polling station and wrote "Are you having a laugh?" ( or similar) across their ballot papers.

Urmstongran Thu 23-May-19 22:12:01

We used our postal ballots to vote for the Brexit Party a few days ago as we knew we’d be over here in Malaga on polling day.

Just heard that Mr Macron’s europhile Renaissance faces being beaten into second place by Marine Le Pen’s National Rally!

crystaltipps Thu 23-May-19 22:18:32

Is that a good thing? Well, it is if you are a far right extremist I guess.

‘Primary do a nice line in brown shirts.....’

Nasty comment!
