Given the things that have been said about other women politicians I think TM has got off lightly. Her screw ups haven't been mentioned although there have been many as PM and Home Secretary. So all those saying how good she was can you please list her achievements and say what her legacy will be?

Absolutely agree with GoneGirl. Theresa May was handed an insurmountable brief. Yes her speech at the end was emotional, and had me tearing up. Some of the articles written about her have been downright nasty but we are very good in this country building a person up and then tearing them down. We need more kindness in the world and I wish her and her husband a happy future.

I really had problems with Thatcher but felt so sorry for her when she was hounded out, betrayal is so cruel.

Also I respectfully disagree with those who say she Shouldn’t have shown any emotion! She is a human being not a robot. I’d also like to say she is a great role model for people with Type 1 Diabetes. The stress must have affected her mentally and physically.

Getting us through leaving the EU would have shown what she was made of.
Did she do her best ? Quite frankly no .

And how do you work that out, Annie? I'm sure that most of them voted in good faith but the fact remains that had the referendum been mandatory the illegalities by some of the Leave campaigns would have led to the result being declared void because the result was unsafe.

As far as I am aware cheating and illegality is not regarded as a normal part of our democratic process; electoral law is there to make it as fair as possible; to attempt to ensure that no side has any unfair advantage.

Perhaps I'm a bit oldfashioned in my view.

Any poster who blames T May for Grenfell is off their rocker.
The council had the cladding fitted, and by all accounts even they thought it was perfectly safe.There are hundreds and hundreds of buildings in the UK fitted with this same cladding and it will take years to remove and refit something safer.
Whoever was at fault in ordering it’s use, it certainly had nothing to do with the PM.

I could have predicted this outcome from the start. As May walked into the job with the same neoliberal polices as Cameron, nothing changed. No new ideas. Did not sack Hunt, causing doctors to strike, plan to privatise our NHS. All went downhill from there. Carrying on with austerity not an economic necessity. We need a general election and a socialist government. And Brexit wasn't going to go well either and didn't. I don't feel sorry for her I feel sorry for the people suffering because of Tories polices.

So sorry to have to disagree with many of the comments; but she was objectively a truly terrible PM.

She had numerous failings, including not being willing to listen to others, not taking others into her confidence, trying to sneak her solution onto others, having a truly terrible negotiating style and being completely ineffective at negotiating, issuing nice sounding words and then completely failing to live up to her words (e.g. ask the residents of the Grenfell fire tragedy, many of who are still in 'temporary housing' or - at the Home Office, her deliberate instigation of a harsh, even vicious regime, - or the number of stabbing victims, in good part due to her massive cutbacks in the police while she was at the Home Office); some truly terrible appointments to the Cabinet (36 of whom have resigned - an all time record in such a short period), being out of touch with the true feelings of the country when she called a snap election etc. etc . . .and - above all - her complete failure to recognise her own failings.

She (together with Farage) have made this country a laughing stock - I have spent a bit of time abroad (including 6 weeks in Australia - a country friendly to the UK through long historical links) and they think that we have all gone mad!!

I don't mean to be harsh, but I think that the above comments (whether you personally agree or not) are reasonable comments and justified by the facts. Personal sympathy is OK - but a PM must be judged by her record - and her's is not great!

I agree with a fair amount of your comments Martin but dealing with leaving the EU has been all consuming,and would have been for any PM.A different PM just might have brought us a better deal though.

I agree with Martin321. Theresa May was a terrible prime minster. Yes, she was given one of the most difficult jobs any prime minster had ever been given, but, that job wasn't forced on her, she stood for office and made promise after promise to the electorate only to break almost all of them. She lied, not only to the people but also to her cabinet and MP's. During the first round of negotiations with the EU she was offered a Free Trade Agreement and she turned it down. She was a remainer never a leaver, and as one politician has said, she was the architect of her own downfall. I have no sympathy what so ever for the woman.
