35% Brexit

40% remain parties

However Farage spins it he DID NOT win the vote and people have indicated that a no deal is not what the country desires. They have no wish to see the U.K. to be ruined by this ideology being spouted by the hard right.

We are a people of moderation.

Yes, I voted Brexit but do have reservations about Nigel Farage but my opinion of politicians in general is at an all time low. I suspect I am not the only one.

Anniebach Mon 27-May-19 09:19:44

Agree Jane10

Liz46 Mon 27-May-19 09:18:43

I'm surprised the remainers did not add in all the people who didn't vote to their total.

BlueBelle Mon 27-May-19 09:17:40

How any sane person can be fooled by that beer swilling arrogant liar is beyond me but as I say he who shouts loudest gets the biscuit but as the old saying goes empty vessels make the most noise

Jane10 Mon 27-May-19 09:17:13

It's as much of a mess as ever. No wonder Theresa had such a struggle for some sort of compromise.

eazybee Mon 27-May-19 09:15:28

People are forgetting that the British election was on Thursday, when Theresa May was still Prime Minister; many of the votes cast were protest votes, and the result is her legacy.

Urmstongran Mon 27-May-19 09:14:01

Nigel Farage's party got 16% in Scotland - bit of an eye opener isn't it? Libdems didn't get much more than that nationwide and they are being treated as major victors!
?

BlueBelle Mon 27-May-19 09:10:40

Hardly a whitewash a ‘party’ with what manifesto ? As always Farage is a one horse pony and look what happened to his former party he’s good at revving up the troops but has nothing intelligent to give when they are all on board He appeals to the far right and the rebel rousers
Remainers know where they are well off and when not to commit suicide and are ever hopeful that the rest will catch on before long
Remember how popular Hitler was

We are still a bitterly divided country and won’t heal in my lifetime unfortunately

Liz46 Mon 27-May-19 09:10:07

I totally agree with the last few posts.

Kandinsky Mon 27-May-19 09:09:37

Agree op, the answer is clear.

The Brexit party did amazingly well!!

In fact, I’m all for a 2nd referendum now as leave would smash it.

Nico97 Mon 27-May-19 09:04:52

Well said Urmstongran and Poppyred . As the old saying goes, there's none so blind as them that can't see

Anniebach Mon 27-May-19 09:03:28

Urmstongran the Labour Party is unsure

NotSpaghetti Mon 27-May-19 09:03:13

Clearly we WERE split, and are STILL split.
Maybe May’s horrible deal is the only fair option.
?

Urmstongran Mon 27-May-19 08:56:33

Exactly Poppyred ??

Poppyred Mon 27-May-19 08:55:12

I turned to Gransnet this morning thinking the Brexit whitewash vote would shut up the remainders for ever. How stupid am I? They have twisted it around again so that everyone who didn’t for the Brexit party are all remainders apparently????? ???

Urmstongran Mon 27-May-19 08:50:25

Well poor Chuka Umunna’s lot is dead in the water. His face late last night. Oh dear, he backed the wrong horse.

If Remain want to add votes up to show a ‘win’ then definitely the Brexit Party can add the Tory votes as ‘Leave’.

Not so sure about the Labour vote though!

lemongrove Mon 27-May-19 08:48:47

All that was needed last night was to show that people who had previously voted leave were decamping to the BP from the main two parties, .......
and that just happened.

lemongrove Mon 27-May-19 08:43:48

All this adding together numbers ( feverishly) on the remain side is no good I’m afraid. You could equally add up all Labour and Conservative and Brexit Party votes, they all stand on leaving the EU.
This result has shownParliament that they have to seriously get on with it and leave the EU as soon as possible.

Witzend Mon 27-May-19 08:40:04

The combined share of the definitely pro Remain parties' votes was 40.4%.
The share of the only definitely pro Brexit party was 34.9%. (Beeb figures)

Given that both Lab and Con shares of the vote have plummeted so drastically, it would seem pretty obvious that many of their disaffected/just plain pissed off with them voters have decamped to LD, Greens, Change, PC, etc.
This is particularly obvious in London, where many staunch Labour areas have gone LibDem.

Our area is always a toss up between Con and LD, Labour come nowhere. This time the LD vote has increased hugely, so evidently a lot of habitual Con voters have decamped to LD to make their Brexit feelings clear.

Anyone thinking this is a straight win for Farage, or that habitual Con voters are automatically pro Brexit, is IMO deluding themselves.

Liz46 Mon 27-May-19 08:24:01

Best idea maryliza54. I just wonder if the Loony party was still going, would the Remainers have claimed their votes as well?

maryeliza54 Mon 27-May-19 08:11:42

Let’s face it - we are as completely f***ed this morning as a country as we were yesterday morning. I think today I will simply listen to music and eat cake.

Liz46 Mon 27-May-19 08:11:17

How is acceptable to add the votes for all the other parties together? I've not heard that one before.

BlueBelle Mon 27-May-19 08:09:49

Jump not Jim I don’t know where he came from ?

BlueBelle Mon 27-May-19 08:09:12

Liz46 if I hear this democratic vote thing rolled out one more time I will scream so loudly you ll all Jim
DEMOCRACY CANNOT BE BUILT ON LIES AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITY
phew got that off my chest for the millionth time

mumofmadboys Mon 27-May-19 08:03:03

I agree we need a second referendum. We are all now better informed what the consequences of leaving the EU mean. When we voted the majority of us did not understand the dire consequences leaving would bring about and we were also told a lot of untruths .Democracy neens to be a dynamic process.
