Sadiq Kahn’s views on Donald Trump - unprofessional?

Not sure if gransnetters outside of London know what our mayor is saying, but he’s going way over the top in my opinion.
He really needs to keep his personal hatred of another politician to himself, especially a politician who’s one of our greatest allies.

What do you think?

Callistemon Tue 04-Jun-19 19:23:58

I doubt you will find anyone more left-wing Labour than a friend of ours, ex-RN! He served as a local politician too and has very decided views even at 90.

^ dispelling the notion that anyone with service connexions will automatically be right-wing.^
surely you didn't believe that to be true, varian?

varian Tue 04-Jun-19 19:16:37

Well done Glammy57 for being so open about who you are and dispelling the notion that anyone with service connexions will automatically be right-wing.

Elvive Tue 04-Jun-19 19:01:05

You must be proud of your daughter Glammy.

Glammy57 Tue 04-Jun-19 18:41:01

Ellanvannin - you are so full of vitriol. My username is Glammy57 and not “Grammy57”. In answer to your question: I am mother, grandmother, wife of a retired Naval officer. My husband is an honorary member of the N.V.A and I have two dear friends who served in WW11. I have worked as a volunteer both in the UK and abroad. I support several charities and try to be a good citizen of this country. My daughter, a consultant psychiatrist, was raised to treat everyone with respect, whatever their race, creed or class. Yes, I am a Corbyn supporter because I believe in helping those less fortunate than myself. My having to pay higher taxes to achieve this sits well with my social conscience. Hopefully, this gives you some insight to who I am!

Elvive Tue 04-Jun-19 16:34:35

Opal, I wasn't addressing you?

I was referring to the link made by*another poster* between the murder of Fusilier Lee Rigby and Sadiq Khan.

Grany Tue 04-Jun-19 15:56:43

It's a good job they spent all that public cash on erecting barriers, otherwise the adoring crowds would surely have totally overwhelmed the Trump procession.Ha Ha

GG and Gone Girl

Thank you ' both' I was wrong and to be honest I never gave it a thought. My mistake.

Khan is of course Mayor of London not Lord Mayor of London.

trisher Tue 04-Jun-19 15:47:38

If being intolerant of racism, mysoginism, Islamaphobia and any other belief which categorises one group of people as being inferior to another is to be called fascism then I really have stepped through the mirror with Alice.
Fascism has certain Identifiable characteristics. There are 14 here
ratical.org/ratville/CAH/fasci14chars.html
Number 3 is what I believe some people on GN are developing. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause
The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

crystaltipps Tue 04-Jun-19 15:38:53

If there’s a left wing bubble there’s presumably also right wing bubble who are in the thrall of Farage et al. Plenty of evidence of their shrill denials and delusions here.

Opal Tue 04-Jun-19 15:34:14

Who said "So all Muslims are baddies and must be reviled"? I think you are trying to put words into the mouths of others Elvive, they certainly aren't MY words or MY meaning. Yes I am aware that millions of Muslims fought in WWII, together with millions of Christians, Jews, Sikhs and those of many religious faiths. Strange that you should point out "Muslims" when my post didn't even refer to religion. Think you've just proved my point.

Beckett Tue 04-Jun-19 15:27:34

It seems to me that the term "racist" is being bandied about so much it is losing all meaning. I seem to recall some time ago a poster being told the fact that he/she was married to an immigrant didn't mean he/she wasn't racist - I never did follow the logic of that.

Day6 Tue 04-Jun-19 15:21:24

So all Muslims are baddies and must be reviled. Quite a leap.

Ahhh, but that was YOUR leap, Elvive, not mine.

Interesting what you did there though.

Welcome, by the way. Have you been here before in another guise?

Day6 Tue 04-Jun-19 15:17:50

The left wing comments on here make me feel physically sick. You don't know the meaning of "fascist", you use the term so loosely.

Good point Opaland noticed by many.
Be warned the term 'populist' is now a dirty word in the left wing bubble. It refers to millions of moderate people who don't vote for hard left wing policies.

Populist is a word also interchangeable with fascist, in the left wing dictionary.

The only non-fascists in the world are extreme left wing liberals who are emerging as of the most intolerant and bigoted group of people on social media. Strange, eh?

Gonegirl Tue 04-Jun-19 15:15:09

Fair enough.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 04-Jun-19 15:14:01

Gonegirl, sorry I did not intend to be a pendant.

The Lord Mayor does such a lot for charity in and around London, didn’t want our current Lord Mayor to be linked with Sadiq Khan, who in my opinion has done very little other than blame everyone for everything whilst taking personal responsibility for nothing.

Day6 Tue 04-Jun-19 15:11:34

It does not warrant calling anyone an idiot. Calling others idiots negates your argument - in my opinion.

<whispers> Pssst Ginny, please have this conversation with the many Remainer posters on GN who continue to portray Leave voters as idiots. Thanks.

Elvive Tue 04-Jun-19 15:11:20

So the connection between Sadiq Khan and those who murdered Lee Rigby is Islam..... in the case of the murderers an extreme perversion of the faith.

So all Muslims are baddies and must be reviled. Quite a leap.

You do realise that millions of Muslims fought for the allied forces in the 2 World Wars?

Lillyputt Tue 04-Jun-19 15:06:17

Stick to the day job and stop meddling .That’s my advice to Sadiq Kahn

Gonegirl Tue 04-Jun-19 15:02:06

I don't think pedantry should be allowed on Gransnet. We are none of us getting any younger. We forget things and make little slip-ups.

Gonegirl Tue 04-Jun-19 15:00:14

We do seem to be a much more interesting nation than the rest of Europe.

EllanVannin Tue 04-Jun-19 14:58:30

I agree with you Opal but " sorely misguided, brainwashed and ignorant " would be my description rather than idiots.
They should brush up/study on their history of WWII !

Gonegirl Tue 04-Jun-19 14:57:50

I think Harry handled it very well, going to the do so as not to upset ageing Granny, but staying in the background well away from the man who insulted his wife.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 04-Jun-19 14:56:34

POGS Khan is not “The Lord Mayor if London” he is an elected mayor a politician.

The Lord Mayor is a ceremonial role.

Gonegirl Tue 04-Jun-19 14:54:39

As for other cities, well, perhaps they haven't got as much life as London. Long may it continue.
