Well, there's 10 left in the race to be our next Prime Minister and voting starts tomorrow.

Who would you LIKE to be the next leader of the Tory party?

And who would you BET on?

farview Thu 13-Jun-19 21:39:11

..there is absolutely nobody that I could think of to run our precious country..

Alexa Thu 13-Jun-19 21:57:09

I'm not a Tory but I think Rory Stewart is one of the good Tories and I'd like him to be prime minister.

Bridgeit Thu 13-Jun-19 22:03:45

Rory Stewart for me.

Saetana Thu 13-Jun-19 22:05:56

If I was betting then my money would be on Boris, unfortunately. I'd personally like Dominic Raab to be chosen but its not looking likely at this stage.

lincolnimp Thu 13-Jun-19 22:10:25

Pleeeeease not Michael Gove

Curlywhirly Thu 13-Jun-19 22:12:57

Alexa, I'm with you. Rory Stewart seems half decent and the most worthy for the job.

BlueBelle Thu 13-Jun-19 22:14:02

Well in a few years time when the result of this fiasco is seen we ll know what group of the general public to blame

The whole bunch of Tories are complete txxxxxs and unfortunately most of the labour are the same, Farage is any sane persons total nightmare and as a country we are finished for the rest of my lifetime

I saw a good explanation of Brexit
‘Voting to take back what we never lost, in order to lose everything we currently have ‘

EllanVannin Thu 13-Jun-19 22:18:10

Whoever it's going to be will have to be more than capable of halting a war in the Middle East and right now none of them give me any confidence in the diplomacy department, least of all BJ. We don't need jokers !!

Labaik Thu 13-Jun-19 22:28:51

And now they're playing their little games of 'if you stand down/vote for me etc you can be in my cabinet...' oh to be a fly on the wall....

Cindersdad Thu 13-Jun-19 22:45:13

I've read some of the replies. I'd like to see Rory Stewart but that is a forlorn hope. My next choice is Jeremy Hunt. Whoever wins will suffer the Brexit backlash unless they allow second referendum. very soon.

Steven Kinnock on Question Time said it how I see it. How could anyone back Boris Johnson a proven serial liar.

Ginny42 Thu 13-Jun-19 23:00:39

Cindersdad I agree. What has happened to the general moral compass of honesty and integrity? We used to pride ourselves as a nation on being trustworthy and dependable. Listening to the accolades for reprobate Johnson by Cox, Patel and Truss today, I conclude that they must live by the same low moral standards. If they think it's acceptable to lie and to live like a reprobate with very low morals, theirs must be the same. As for his father saying he's had a good day and he's proud of him!

Perhaps that's where the problem all began, with a father who admires his capacity to live a life of debauchery, racism and misogyny. He should be ashamed of his son's behaviour.

I voted leave after much soul searching. However, after the debacle of the last 3 years, I now really want us to leave. In my opinion (for what its worth) the EU bureaucrats have behaved dreadfully and tried to make it as difficult as possible as they are terrified that there will be a domino effect with Spain, Portugal and Ireland et al following our lead. I would like Dominic Rabb to be the next PM as he is young and seems to be very clear about Brexit. Saying that, it looks likely that Boris will win and I'm really not sure about his commitment to get us out on 31st October. WTO rules will be really tough to begin with, but surely Great Britain can prevail? If we survived WW2, this should be a walk the park surely?

paddyann Thu 13-Jun-19 23:35:33

so we should think of Brexit as being like WW11? What planet are you people on..there is absolutely no need for Brexit ..the UK hasn't at any time handed over "sovereignty" to BRUSSELS..neither does the EU rule Britain..all and any problems we have are Westminster created for their own reasons.THEY had the powers to control immigration THEY didn't do it,austerity is Westminsters baby as is the DWP.s handling of the disabled and vulnerable people who subsequently DIED.The TORIES are the problem for heavens sake wake up and smell the coffee before the UK sinks further into a mire that cant be climbed out of .
Of course this helps our Independence cause but I have family in England who are worried sick about whats coming to them and I pray and hope they are spared Boris for a start and Brexit which needs to be stopped NOW .

Bridgeit Thu 13-Jun-19 23:43:17

Good post Paddyann , but I cannot see that the Labour Party has the answers , it will just be a different shade of awful.

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 23:43:32

evie64 essential difference between Brexit and WW2 is that we didn't vote for the war

Labaik Fri 14-Jun-19 00:00:48

Oh jeez; not WW2 again...[shakes head in disbelief...] sad

Joplin Fri 14-Jun-19 00:58:32

I think Rory sounds the best bet & according to Ken Clarke on LBC today he would also put him first. He said he had all Boris's best qualities, could do all the things Boris does well, but happened to be a serious & truthful politician. I also read somewhere that because he's honest he probably won't get very far. Perhaps true - what a sad world this has become.

4allweknow Fri 14-Jun-19 01:21:24

Javid today stated he had no idea why he was left of the invites. Media seems to be going with he argued with Mr Trump on a couple of occasions and it may have been embarrassing for both to meet at such an occasion. Wonder what the media boffins thought would happen if they did. Boris looks to win, I just prey he can't really be as big a buffoon as he appears.

Lyndiloo Fri 14-Jun-19 02:37:04

Hmmm ... interesting read.

Caledonail4 was absolutely right (a clap for him or her, please). I wasn't 'shouting', I was 'emphasising'. Sorry to all those who felt they were being yelled at. I shall aim to be more online-chat conventional in the future. (Then again, - probably not.) grin

I was shocked when Donald Trump was elected. But then I thought ... maybe ... just maybe, he'll turn up Trumps! sad

I feel the same way now about Boris. But there's not much to choose from is there? It's like trying to pick the one sound strawberry from a punnet of soggy ones.

crystaltipps Fri 14-Jun-19 06:04:22

evie I get so angry when people say “we survived ww2” - MILLIONS DID NOT SURVIVE WW2 stop insulting them by comparing a self inflicted political omnishambles to a global armed conflict in which millions died.

maddy629 Fri 14-Jun-19 06:28:24

I agree with you, Urmstongran, I voted leave and I think Boris will be the next PM but I thnk Boris Johnson will be a good PM.

crystaltipps Fri 14-Jun-19 06:38:05

Boris is a serial cheat and liar he was a worse than useless foreign secretary, a period he is keeping quiet about. But if that’s the sort people “ think will be a good PM” because he has a slimy charm and is “better than the alternative”, then we have sunk very low indeed.

Ginny42 Fri 14-Jun-19 06:59:17

It makes me shudder when I think of Boris Johnson as PM. Never trust a liar.

Firecracker123 Fri 14-Jun-19 07:42:12

It seems to me all the Remainers on here dislike Boris because under his watch we will leave on the 31st October and they like Rory Stewart who wants to keep us in the EU ? nothing new here then

MaizieD Fri 14-Jun-19 07:46:23

What a stupid post, firecracker.
