Well, there's 10 left in the race to be our next Prime Minister and voting starts tomorrow.

Who would you LIKE to be the next leader of the Tory party?

And who would you BET on?

maxdecatt Thu 13-Jun-19 12:23:33

Your problem is that you do not believe in democracy.

JenniferEccles Thu 13-Jun-19 12:24:37

Does anyone think Theresa May was not too bad after all, now we have learned more about the front runners?

Yes we are all exasperated that Brexit isn't done and dusted, but honestly, was it really her fault?

Now look at who we have left. Who has the most integrity to represent us? I honestly don't know.

winterwhite Thu 13-Jun-19 12:25:00

Is anyone really serious abt leaving on 31 October without a deal despite what is said everywhere about cannot be done in time? Not just medicine shortages, but no counter-terrorism agreements, no Interpol... Would the voters who just blindly think that the Tories must 'do' Brexit because they said they would be happy with that result? What on earth is wrong in saying that it has proved too darned difficult?

maxdecatt Thu 13-Jun-19 12:25:07

Farage and proper business people is what we need. The present lot of career politicians could not run the school tuckshop.

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 12:26:21

Frightening isn't it funkygran.

maxdecatt Thu 13-Jun-19 12:27:14

Winterwhite. Interpol has nothing at all to do with the EU. Interpol is an international agency, NOT an EU agency.
As for counter-terrorism the UK leads the way and Europe fiollows.....as they will continue to do.

Piersfield62 Thu 13-Jun-19 12:27:31

I think unfortunately Mr Johnson will get in. I dislike them all so much I won't use their first names That's for people I like and trust.

Kryssie Thu 13-Jun-19 12:34:19

I'm backing Boris, but after the next election we may have Prime minster Farage.

muffinthemoo Thu 13-Jun-19 12:35:28

I admit I can be old fashioned; I have serious doubts about the character of someone who has had multiple high profile affairs and been unconcerned about fathering children of women who are not his wife. (I don't mean outside of marriage per se, I mean whilst he was still married to Marina!) Petronella Wyatt had a termination and Helen Macintyre had a daughter by him. I cannot view this as responsible behaviour.

I tend to have the feeling that someone who is routinely that dishonest and untrustworthy within their own family is probably not a trustworthy individual in public life.

I accept this is an outmoded view. I also have thoughts about someone old enough to be a grandparent running about with a twentysomething but I know that is the way of the world.

suttonJ Thu 13-Jun-19 12:43:10

It's beyond a car crash.
Brexiteers say they want democracy returned to this country. Yet the new PM is put into post by the votes of the Conservative Party members (majority elderly and from the leafy shires).
Democracy? Not on your life.
And there's Boris's attitude towards business. Who can forget his succinct, thoughtful, intellectual response to a question about the concerns of top business leaders towards Brexit? I quote, 'F* business'.
Choose from one of this lot? Not one of them will do anything for the working class.

EthelJ Thu 13-Jun-19 12:47:34

I don't like any of them. If I had to choose it would be Rory Stewart first, Hancock second, Hunt and Javid third.
Worst PM s in my opinion would be Esther Mcvay very closely followed by Boris Johnson. Leasdsom and Raab.

NannyC2 Thu 13-Jun-19 12:47:44

I'm not happy with any of the Tory party - or any of the others. However, we have to have a PM, so I agree with Urmstongran - Boris because i want to leave.

Stella14 Thu 13-Jun-19 12:48:20

They are such an appalling shower. Imagine a country run by Boris Johnson. He objectively made a hash of being Foreign Secretary. Why anyone would then think he would make a decent Prime Minister is beyond me!

EthelJ Thu 13-Jun-19 12:49:57

maxidcat you do realise that Farage is a career politician too don't you? He pretends to be a man of the people but he really isn't

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 12:51:53

muffinthemoo exactly how I feel too. Once you have lied to your wife and family and your employer and your colleagues as Johnson has you set unlikely to find it difficult to lie to the electorate oh wait...he has already done that.

keffie Thu 13-Jun-19 12:51:56

None of them. Let's break this down into facts

1/ Cameron didnt expect to win the 2015 election outright. He gave the referrndim has a carrot expecting to still be in bed with the Lib Dems who would not agree to a referendum.

2/ Cameron arrogance beyond words calling this referendum the public weren't clamouring for did not expect to lose.

3/ If the ex-pat's had been allowed to vote we wouldnt be having this conversation. Before you say well they are abroad why should they? Just remember the majority still pay tax here on pensions, have investments and businesses they pay tax on too
4/ 52/48% Farage said before the vote if it was close he wouldn't be going away. Why should us remainers. We arent remainers. Wr know the Brexit idea is insane thats why we are out here fighting.
5/ Boris and Gove didnt believe leave would win. It was all career moving from them for when Cameron stood down in 2019 as he intended too. Boris has always been pro Europe. There are 100s of articles and streams on www to prove it.
6/ Ensue the mess we have now. Brexiteers in parliament had no idea or understanding of how to implement it.
7/ Theres been a deal Boris and co voted against. It's the only one we are getting. The E.U have disbanded the Brexit office. Why dont people realise that
8/ This will rumble on for years because the main problem most Brexiteers even in parliament cant get there heads around is there can be no hard border in Ireland because it is illegal. There will be no Brexit because of it.
9/ In the meantime the waste of time and money continues
10/ Brexit is already damaging the economy. The next P.M will have the same problems as T.M. Brexit is not doable
11/ The Tories are stropping around threatening things they cannot do. We wont leave on a no deal in October because there isnt the plans in place.
12/ Parlment cannot get the paperwork through in time. You cannot just shut parliament just because you want too. They are like school boys in a playground
13/ Deals with the rest of the world? They all want something from us. Guess what? It's free movement. It would be funny if it wasn't so pathetic. Trade means they all want something in return. Btw our biggest trading partner is The E.U. Let's see a few million deal with Iceland xs a few countries or a billions worth with the E.U?
14/ Guess what, again? WTO we have to reapply to be a member of. We are a member of within the EU. Not in our own right. We tried to fast track our singular membership last year. Guess what? It was rejected. Countries aren't happy with what they are seeing in The U.K now. They see a "you want business but you dont want us in your country"
15/ We now have to apply for normal membership if we leave. All 170 countries have to agree. We have to renegotiate 170 agreements. In the meantime the cost of living will go up by up to 40% as that what it will cost extra to trade until new agreements are sorted. This will take years
16/ Business say its suicide. NHS are losing europran staff hand over fist as a big proportion of our staff come from the E.U. They are going because they dont feel welcome anymore. Hospitality, care homes and agriculture is the same.
17/ For those who say about the Lisbon treaty. We have been in it since 2009. An ad addendum is coming in next year. This is why the Tories what us out.

What is it? After the bankers crash of 2008 the E.U bought in rules to stop offshore business not paying tax and hiding money. Guess when it comes in? Next year. Its not about you. Its about them
17/ The E.U arent the bad guys
in this. I could write plenty more however my finger has had enough now
18/ Its just a pity that remain wlill have to pay if we do end up out. If we stay in leacers will never appreciate the fight we have fought is benefiting them too

JenniferEccles Thu 13-Jun-19 12:53:21

muffinthemoo I agree.

I don't think what you described is an old fashioned or outdated view - I think wishing for our new PM to be someone with decency and integrity is a perfectly reasonable thing to wish for.

Who measures up? I am not sure any of them do. I am pleased it is not being put to the public vote.

GillT57 Thu 13-Jun-19 12:53:46

Oh and any of you thinking that Leadsom is a good choice, she has just stated she would have no issues with lifting the ban on fox hunting with dogs. Anyone happy with that?

GracesGranMK3 Thu 13-Jun-19 12:54:04

123coco Your post -Thu 13-Jun-19 12:21:09. I haven't dared mention Years and Years. Far too likely to happen so I didn't want anyone to feel as scared as I do.

whywhywhy Thu 13-Jun-19 12:55:14

None of the people in the line up could run a p up in a brewery. The country needs a good shake up and these clowns are just not the people to do it.

keffie Thu 13-Jun-19 12:57:29

Kryssie I sincerely hope for your sake you are on a wind up re Farage being prime minister. How? His party arent a party. They are a limited company. Check it out. It's TRUE.

Then he would have to field 100s of candidates and he would need to win 320 plus seats in parliament to get a majority. He has never won a seat in parliament and he has stood 7 times. Need I continue
