Most of the Conservative MPs are intelligent , I must suppose. I am not being sarcastic, I truly dont know why they want Johnson.

Urmstongran Wed 19-Jun-19 09:09:15

I think they want Brexit.

And the Conservatives let us have the referendum and know Nigel Farage is watching events and waiting to hoover up votes if they don’t get it done.

Needs must now for them I think.

yggdrasil Wed 19-Jun-19 09:09:26

They want cabinet posts. And he will promise anything

Charleygirl5 Wed 19-Jun-19 09:09:43

Gawd only knows because he is a lying b*****d and will not give a straight answer.

Anniebach Wed 19-Jun-19 09:11:10

Like all parties, they go by polls ?

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Jun-19 09:15:02

Because he is saying what they want to hear.

I think that it is hard for many to understand Tory party mindset but there are so many factors at play here, not least the desperation to remain in power. They see Johnson as a vote winner, given his twice success in London.

Bizarrely they deny all the issues he brings with him. This denial I think is characteristic of so much in politics.

Johnson firmly announced last week or maybe the week before that he was for leaving without a deal if necessary on 31st. He even seemed to agree at one stage about proroguing.

He has rolled back on all of it since. There has even been suggestions that he is so unreliable/chaotic, that he could just as well choose to revoke.

As for other policies, anybodies guess is as good as anyone else’s.

So in answer to your question.

God knows and even he must be totally bewildered.

Anniebach Wed 19-Jun-19 09:18:33

Many Labour MP’s want rid of Corbyn but the polls tell them no. Same with the Tory MP’s.

Callistemon Wed 19-Jun-19 09:18:36

I think most is misleading as most want other candidates - the number of votes for Boris is far less than the total of votes for others.

The proof of the pudding will becin the eating.
There's many a slip 'tween cup and lip
Etc

We can live in hope.

They all want to deliver Brexit, Urmstongran

Callistemon Wed 19-Jun-19 09:19:38

Be in!

As at the time of the referendum Johnson had a vote to leave in one pocket and a vote to stay in another I can also see at the last minute he may revoke Article 50. That would suit me as I think Brexit is a huge mistake and will have calamitous consequences.

However, Johnson is a philandering, lying mysogynist so it beats me how they are all fawning over him just because they think he is a vote winner. He was dreadful on the debate last night and is capable of bringing great harm to this country. Integrity seems to have gone out the window in British politics over all parties.

Urmstongran Wed 19-Jun-19 09:22:17

Rory Stewart doesn’t want Brexit.
And Jeremy Hunt has been dubbed ‘Theresa May in trousers’. Same old carousel.

Elvive Wed 19-Jun-19 09:24:05

Do you like Corbyn , Annie? Only you seem to talk about him a lot. I think the question was about BJ.

GracesGranMK3 Wed 19-Jun-19 09:54:15

Following - I'd love to know the answer.

Pollaidh Wed 19-Jun-19 09:55:03

They are barking. There is a You Gov poll just published that shows a frightening majority of conservative party members want Brexit at any cost - even the break up of the UK and economic damage. I shall try to find it....

EllanVannin Wed 19-Jun-19 09:57:06

Don't trust BJ. The only one who does " look the part " is Sajid Javid.

Pollaidh Wed 19-Jun-19 09:57:22

Here it is
yougov.co.uk/topics/politics/articles-reports/2019/06/18/most-conservative-members-would-see-party-destroyed

lovebeigecardigans1955 Wed 19-Jun-19 09:57:57

Whatever his politics and motives he has charisma and seems popular with voters. Would you buy a used car from this chap? Time will tell.

spabbygirl Wed 19-Jun-19 10:01:33

I think he looks fun and funky if you don't listen to what he is saying, & that attracts some people but he is a dangerous liar who speaks without thinking (or maybe he does think & still talks crap!) & members mistake that for popularity and think he is going to rescue the party's declining membership. Any one of them is crap though, just look at their voting record which is more reliable than what they say.

Anniebach Wed 19-Jun-19 10:02:24

Elvive. The O/P was questioning why Tory MP’s want Johnson .

I gave my opinion and as there is only one other party with a large number of MP’s I put that party forward as an example. Not much point in putting Cable forward as an example or Lucas .

Nan27 Wed 19-Jun-19 10:03:33

I agree !

Whitewavemark2 Wed 19-Jun-19 10:03:46

Those who are most familiar with Johnson trust him the least. In fact they are the most critical that I have ever heard of a potential PM.

But still the denial, and little care for our country as long as they get brexit, which strangely in itself with Johnson is under question.

optimist Wed 19-Jun-19 10:06:50

Agreed without doubt

GrannyGravy13 Wed 19-Jun-19 10:10:44

Perhaps they want to watch him "crash and burn"!!!

He could be the the man that has the destruction of the Conservative Party during his Premiership?

mokryna Wed 19-Jun-19 10:12:23

What about the lady languishing in a prison.

Paba24 Wed 19-Jun-19 10:16:00

I am with you Alexa, I don't understand it, he has shown that he is a liar, a cheat, a narcissist, I could go on .... why do they want someone like that in charge. All he has ever wanted was to be Prime Minister and it looks like he will get his life long wish to go into history. I Do not even understand why they are showing these debates on TV, the country does not get a say in it, it is targeted at approximately 120,000 people who are already members of the Tory party, the rest of the country can swivel we don't get a say. It is extraordinary, if it were fiction we would say that is not a believable story.
