Please not Jo Swindon , she seems to be constantly in a state
of hysteria and she shouts

jura2 Thu 25-Jul-19 15:28:52

Annie- let's no play games here. Your comment was related to the thread topic indeed, but aimed directly at Jo. Clear?

petra Thu 25-Jul-19 15:43:05

Jo Swindon wrote to Jeramy Corbyn this morning requesting him to table a motion of no confidence in Boris.
He politely told her to go away ?

Labaik Thu 25-Jul-19 15:53:02

Swindon; is this an Ivankarism?

Anniebach Thu 25-Jul-19 15:53:45

jura, what on Earth are you on about, there were two contestants for the leadership contest, yes ?

Thread title Libs Dems Leadership, yes ?

I gave my opinion of Jo Swindon, one of the two contestants, yes ?

lemongrove Thu 25-Jul-19 15:58:20

He’s not a total idiot then.?

petra Thu 25-Jul-19 15:59:07

Labaik
Back off with the sarcasm. We all know how that happened.
It's not funny or clever much as you'd like to think it was.

lemongrove Thu 25-Jul-19 15:59:29

Above post to petra.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Jul-19 16:00:03

If there is a second vote, if the result of that vote is leave, the Lib Dems will not respect it!!

Which basically is the Lib Dems yet again saying "B****cks" to a winning vote.

They might not like the FPTP voting system but "hey ho"it is the system we have in the U.K.

jura2 Thu 25-Jul-19 16:03:56

So is Parliamentary Democracy GG13!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Jul-19 16:06:56

Hopefully with the new government they might actually implement leaving the EU, remember the majority of MPs voted for Article 50..........that's democracy.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 25-Jul-19 16:08:06

I am turning off my iPad to swim and play with my GC in the garden, enjoy the rest of this beautiful day.

Lemongrove
I think Jo Swinson ? Is mixing corbyn up with someone who gives a toss ?

Labaik Thu 25-Jul-19 16:29:53

So is Jeramy an Ivankarism also. I'm sorry but is there an in joke that I'm missing here?

varian Thu 25-Jul-19 17:01:28

The excellent new leader of the Liberal Democrats is Jo. Swinson- not Swindon. Please get her name right.

jura2 Thu 25-Jul-19 17:20:15

... Whales or Kingston - very Trump like

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 18:51:34

Iam64, I thought that's what I said. It's what I meant anyway. The GFA was only possible because the Republic of Ireland and NI are both in the EU.

quizqueen Thu 25-Jul-19 18:58:32

Populism=Democracy, just not the type that the Leftie PC mob would prefer.

Iam64 Thu 25-Jul-19 20:08:29

grow stuff - I think we must be saying the same things, certainly expressing the same concerns.
Don't want to derail the focus on Jo Swinson but how shocking is it that the Conservative and Unionist Party is on a path that could end in the break up of the Union. I've some sympathy with the 'Scots but I'm in the north west of England and feel we, and the north east have been sold right down the river

Jo Swinson has lots to recommend her. Hopefully, she'll grow into her new role (and speak openly about regretting her involvement in supporting the bliddy bedroom tax)

varian Thu 25-Jul-19 21:24:03

Simon Kellner, writing in the "i" -

Jo Swinson's assumption of the leadership of the Lib Dems passed almost unnoticed, in the shadow of a bigger internecine contest elsewhere, but her elevation gives me fresh hope that British politics can be a more vibrant, diverse and engaging place again, and that the third party can be a force for change.

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 21:29:38

Populism and democracy are not synonymous.

MaizieD Thu 25-Jul-19 21:37:23

Populism:

In politics, populism refers to a range of approaches which emphasise the role of "the people" and often juxtapose this group against "the elite". There is no single definition of the term, which developed in the 19th century and has been used to mean various different things since that time

When in office in liberal democracies, populists have often been responsible for democratic backsliding – also called "democratic erosion" or "de-democatization" – as they undermine independent institutions like the media or judiciary which they consider hostile to the "will of the people

The latest Yougov poll, taken since Jo Swinson became leader of the LibDems and Boris Johnson became Conservative leader, shows a doubling of the number of former Conservative voters who now intend to vote LibDem.

Voting Intention: Con 25%, Lib Dem 23%, Lab 19%, Brex 17% (23-24 July)

POGS Thu 25-Jul-19 23:13:24

What is the sense/the democracy behind the Lib Dems and Greens fighting for a 2nd Refendum/Peoples Vote, call it what you will and clearly state you will ' NOT' accept a result that does not agree with your position.

Answer

The Lib Dems and Greens are the least democratic parties and are fooling ' only the few, not the many'.

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 23:19:04

Please could you reference the LDs or Greens saying this?

POGS Thu 25-Jul-19 23:20:33

Varian

"shows a doubling of the number of former Conservative voters who now intend to vote LibDem."

Not arguing but out of interest could you show how that statement has been concluded. Thanks.
