Maddyone I've been following a murder case for years which after the judge had handed out the life sentence a politician stuck his nose in and decided that the " criminal " involved is never to be released and will " die in prison ", which overruled what the judge had originally stated-----life being 25 years but the person is heading towards 33 years of incarceration-------for a crime he clearly didn't commit.
The politician had imposed a whole life tariff without informing the said prisoner.

I despise Yaxley Lennon
(185 Posts)and all he stands for. I seriously cannot believe there are genuine people on this forum who appear to think otherwise.
Is this justice ?? Unfortunately given the length of time that this case has been rumbling on for, many of those involved have now died, but nevertheless the case continues and I have every faith in those who have tirelessly fought to see it through as the biggest MOJ this country will ever see.
Johno, you say that the man being discussed on this thread is “great”. How would you rank him in relation to - for example - Beveridge. Or Gandhi? Or Martin Luther King? Or Mandela? Or Desmond Tutu? Or Bevan? What is your definition of “great man”? What criteria does a man need to fulfil to earn the attribution of greatness?
Some racist rants from the man named on this thread.
Ah, now I understand Ellan, I just wasn’t sure what you meant at first. Thank you for explaining. In fact, I think I remember some similar cases myself, reported in the media, maybe I remember the case you mention.
If the person is innocent let’s hope the powers that be will release him/her soon.
We have just returned from America, and we visited the National Museum of Civil Rights, situated at the place where Martin Luther King was assassinated. It was very emotional. King was a wonderful man in my opinion. Slightly off thread I know, but CyclingKnitter reminded me.
Mum and myself liked Martin Luther King---" I have a dream " something I've remembered from my earlier years.
After MLK's demise, mum started listening to Billy Graham.
Yes, Martin Luther King was a wonderful man in my opinion. He made lots of speeches but the ‘I have a dream’ speech is the most famous. A few years ago we stayed in The Willard hotel in Washington DC and we learnt that he wrote that speech in that hotel, and then delivered the speech from The Lincoln Memorial. The pictures are there in the museum. Apparently he redelivered the speech in Memphis, which is of course where he was shot. Fascinating history. But we’ve hijacked the thread Ellan. By the way, he was a pastor, maybe that’s why your mum turned to Billy Graham.
Oldwoman.. I can assure you I am 100% factually correct. Again I have to wonder at your personal slight at my character. I have NEVER EVER insulted any individual, in person. YET I have had more warnings and deleted messages from Gransnet HQ than I can shake a stick at. There is an awful lot of pompous moralising, arrogant people on these threads. Also, I don't care if you call me a Nazi -pedophile - drunkard who batters old women .. I will never report you (secretly) to the Gransnet HQ. I am over 50 also. I have been around the block. I am mature. I am NOT PC. To be honest some on here sound like they were locked in the Lib Dem regional office wardrobe for 50 years. For gods sake grow up. So what if people "LIKE TOMMY ROBINSON" keep your hair on. LOts of you LIKE Corbyn. I respect that. Yu never see me saying.. "can't believe there are people on this forum stupid enough to support Corbyn, they truly dont know anything about life" !!!! I respect people.
Cyclinknitter... I do say he is great. I also admire people of whom I do NOT always agree. It is easy and always the case one can set parameters. From slapping your son on the back and saying .. "your a great kid" to Audie Murphy who won every single medal/award for bravery, some 2 or 3 times over before he was 21 years old. He is clearly GREAT!!! My number 1 hero is Muhammad Ali I regard him as GREAT and so do multi-millions of people. I do not regard Churchill as GREAT. I rate Gandhi as one of my heros and DR King as an absolute true GREAT. My second position GREAT is Paul Robeson. Strange that all my heros are black, you may think yet another hero of mine - Tommy Robinson has been called a racist... it is beyond logic I would support a racist. Even Jesus did not tolerate the money lenders, he wrecked their workplace. I dont have to justify why I regard anyone as great. Perhaps you could tell me who you regard as great. But it is not relevant. I am not asking you to LIKE Tommy Robinson. I am not asking for anyone's approval for who I like or dislike. The Queen and the BBC thought Saville was great, so much so he got the highest awards from HMQ. I have friends who think Mike Tyson is absolutely the greatest. I see him as a rapist so will never see him as great yet boxing is my sport. Tommy is a lad from a council estate if he was from Oxbridge and Eton there would be people who think the Sun shines out of his backside, just for that. I think Paramedics are great/heros!!! I do not think Winning dancing on Ice makes you "GREAT" but apparently a lot of people do.
Johno you're well over 50 if you like Paul Robeson.
Sydney Poitier ?
Johno splutter on like a fool with your silly comments about admiring Mohammed Ali and Paul Robeson, what do you want us to do? Applaud you? Frankly, if as a former member of law enforcement in various roles you fail or are unable to understand the legal reasons for the conviction and imprisoning of Robinson, then the only conclusion can be that you defend him because you think the same way as him. Pathetic really, much the same as Corbyn claiming he isn't anti-semitic because he likes the films of Steven Speilberg.
Don't the police have to be reasonably intelligent and able to write properly?
Well I didn’t know Corbyn had said that Gill.
He didn't *maddyone. It was my clumsy attempt at ridiculing johno. Must try harder he?
Sorry, my husband always says I’ve got no sense of humour
Where does Johno source his drugs? It's absolutely laughable to claim that Yaxley-Lennon is a great. He's a loser in every sense, but he's realised he can attract attention by stirring up hatred. Let's hope he gets banged up with some real hard men!
Johno Is your comment (14.07 - 16.09.31) meant for me? Please point out where I have insulted you. The only posts I have ever reported to GN are those which are advertising something. I am a firm believer in free speech, no matter how much I disagree with what is being said.
It’s about time that GN took a leaf out off FB and Instagram’s book and banned thread that preach fascism. Apparently HQ don’t recognise what is going on here.
Let me paste this from the Guardian
“Facebook has permanently banned a number of far-right organisations and individuals including the British National party (BNP), the English Defence League (EDL) and Britain First .
The ban, which came into effect at midday on Thursday, extends beyond the groups and individuals specifically cited as hate organisations: posts and other content that “expresses praise or support” for them will also be banned, as will users who coordinate support for the groups.
The move is the latest in a series of crackdowns by Facebook, beginning in February when it banned the rightwing activist Tommy Robinson under the same rules, and continuing in March when it reversed a longstanding policy that had allowed “white nationalists” and “white separatists” to post on the site, provided they steered clear of promoting “white supremacy”.
In a statement, Facebook said: “Individuals and organisations who spread hate, or attack or call for the exclusion of others on the basis of who they are, have no place on Facebook. Under our dangerous individuals and organisations policy, we ban those who proclaim a violent or hateful mission or are engaged in acts of hate or violence.
“The individuals and organisations we have banned today violate this policy, and they will no longer be allowed a presence on Facebook or Instagram.
Posts and other content which expresses praise or support for these figures and groups will also be banned
. Our work against organised hate is ongoing and we will continue to review individuals, organisations, pages, groups and content against our community standards.”
The move was welcomed by the Labour MP Yvette Cooper, the chair of the home affairs select committee, who called it “long overdue”.
I’m personally disgusted with GN as they continue to allow posts that support these individuals and try to justify their message. Shame on you GN.
That's free speech for you !!!! Some you like some you don't.
Johno is just a guy in his 50's, retired from the Police, enjoys holidays with his wife and thinks TR is a decent chap.
What's the issue?
Anja surely then by your reasoning the poster who started this thread titled 'I despise Yaxley Lennon' is guilty of hate. Just because you do not approve of some of the posts supporting Yaxley Lennon you want it shut down.
There are plenty of other threads on GN spuing hate, look at some of the hate posts directed at Ann Widdecombe, Nigel Farage, Boris and Trump.
You can't in my opinion shut down free speech and the posts and posters on GN are pussycats compared to the real world.
Also wouldn't it be boring on here without the occasional controversial posts and posters.
