This from an American Ambassador

Farage said that anyone in UK civil service or military who doesn’t believe in Brexit should be removed. My jaw dropped. This is outrageous. It is fascistic to apply a single issue to determine “loyalty” as if we were in a war of religion. Shame on him.

Urmstongran although I don't agree with you at all about Trump, your description of Somalia is not wrong.
It has been described as the worst place on earth to live for so many reasons. Even the UN Special Representative was thrown out.
It is understandable that anyone would want to leave and forge a new life elsewhere.

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jul-19 12:17:18

Bit pointless banging on about how awful Trump is. Fact is right now he will get elected again and the Democratic swerve to the left will make it even more likely.

Noisy lefty types don't get it either in the US or the UK.

You need to be in power to change things and 95% of the electorate aren't from some tiny minority.

Callistemon Mon 15-Jul-19 12:18:23

95% of the electorate?

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jul-19 12:22:19

Okay - just most then.

Nandalot Mon 15-Jul-19 12:34:23

Urmstongran, I can’t agree with your comment. America is their country and if they perceive something as wrong then they have a right, a duty indeed, to make their voice heard. It is irrelevant which country their forbears originated from. Trump may not agree with them but that does not mean they should not be allowed an opinion.

MaizieD Mon 15-Jul-19 12:34:59

For the avoidance of doubt, this is what Trump actually tweeted:

So interesting to see “Progressive” Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly......

....and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how....

....it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!

Despicable and evil.

I just cannot understand how anyone can excuse this in any way whatsoever.

I see he's learned a new word though, 'inept'grin I wonder where he got it from....

MaizieD Mon 15-Jul-19 12:39:50

Okay - just most then.

Have you forgotten, Ug that 'most' of the electorate didn't vote for Trump?

Hillary Clinton won the popular vote by a majority of 3 million.

Both the US and the UK have crazy voting systems that are nowhere near being 'democratic'.

(And please don't even mention the corrupted 2016 UK referendum)

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jul-19 12:45:35

Of course I recall Hillary Clinton got more votes. The Democrats keep reminding everyone of the fact just the same as Remainers here keep telling us the referendum was advisory and illegal.

MaizieD Mon 15-Jul-19 13:13:31

Both of which are true. (Except that the ref wasn't, in itself, illegal. Certain campaigns corrupted it by their illegal actions)

But you prefer to ignore the truth.

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jul-19 13:20:01

I don’t ignore the truth.
Just that I personally can’t do anything about where we are - so it’s time to move on.

MaizieD Mon 15-Jul-19 13:21:12

I'm not moving a bl**dy inch, Ug

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jul-19 13:27:08

Never mind MaizieD we will just go round you.

petra Mon 15-Jul-19 13:33:13

Urmstongran
Ooooh your good. ???

MaizieD Mon 15-Jul-19 13:50:46

Just that I personally can’t do anything about where we are

Well, you could withdraw your support from the racist, Fascist Farage...

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jul-19 13:56:49

Nope. I agree with the aims of the Brexit Party as you know.
?

MaizieD Mon 15-Jul-19 14:10:09

And what would those be, Ug?

Can you point me to its manifesto?

Its manifesto democratically agreed on by its members at its party conference, of course?

(Though I suppose if you have a membership of 1 person a democratically compiled manifesto is easy.. hmm )

Urmstongran Mon 15-Jul-19 14:30:10

I’ve commented on all this before. It must get pretty boring to anyone reading this thread.

I’m not getting into a spat with you MaizieD

We shall just have to agree to disagree and move on.
?

Bridgeit Mon 15-Jul-19 14:39:19

Well I would genuinely like to know what your answer are to MaizeD,s questions. Urm.

MaizieD Mon 15-Jul-19 14:51:24

Told you, Ug. I'm not moving.

Dinahmo Mon 15-Jul-19 15:28:20

Having just read MaizieD's quote from Trump's tweet, it can't have been written by him because it's far too articulate.

Callistemon Mon 15-Jul-19 15:32:01

I see he's learned a new word though, 'inept' I wonder where he got it from....
As soon as I read that I thought the same! grin

MaizieD Mon 15-Jul-19 15:39:01

Good point, Dinahmo.

Iam64 Mon 15-Jul-19 19:19:36

I see that Theresa May has finally reached the end of her tether/the end of term so she doesn't care any more - she's criticised Trump for his comments about the four senators. Go Theresa. WE live in hope that our next PM is as confident about telling Trump when he's out of order.

varian Mon 15-Jul-19 19:32:39

Trump's latest outrageous attack on citizens of the USA who have been elected by the people to high office is unbelievably racist.

"Go back to where you came from" is a classic racist trope, used by nazis, the klu klux klan, and the very worst type of nationalist politicians everywhere.

In normal times this appalling utterance would have been enough to exclude the perpetrator from any kind of elected office. In most parts of the USA, a person who said these things could not have been elected dog-catcher.

How far has the USA sink with this person in the White House and how far could we sink unless we stand up to him????

Iam64 Mon 15-Jul-19 19:57:52

yes indeed varian. The man is dangerous in that he gives bigots and racists the idea that their belief systems are acceptable, in fact the right ones because their president says so.
My big concern is given Boris's response to the Potus dreadful abusive comments towards our Ambassador, does this suggest Johnson won't stand up to Trump, in fact not only will he not oppose his worst excesses, he'll support them
