Well I thought Boris’s speech was very good & would far rather he was PM than Hunt.....look how he treated the NHS.We need to wait & see,Boris may come into his own,he’s like Marmite.....you either love him or hate him & I say give him a chance!Lets face it he can’t be any worse than May who lied to all of us about Brexit when in fact she was a dyed in the wool Remainer!Looking forward to a complete change & with Boris Hopefully we’‘ll get it.

There is a ' continued ' lack of understanding over the ballot/vote , quite possibly on purpose , or maybe because there are ' some ' who genuinely do not understand the process that follows when the Prime Minister or Leader of a devolved nation resigns?

In what way? I've been working for the NHS for 26 years - please tell me exactly how he's going to do that. He's the man who said people with mental ill health should "drown out your inner demons with work" and he's planning to reform it - so I'm very interested.

I think it’s going to be interesting. He’s a very clever intelligent man. I wouldn’t be too quick to right him off. He should be given a chance. The time to moan about him is if he doesn’t deliver.

I am resigned to Boris being PM, I have accepted that we will leave the EU. But I confess that I don’t feel cheerful or optimistic about the future of the United Kingdom. I think we will
be worse off.
In 2016 I voted remain because I could not figure out how leaving would be of benefit in terms of the nation’s security & influence, nor indeed in economic terms. I remain none the wiser to this day...

I really don’t see why anybody living outside Gt Britain should have any concerns .....it’s up to us the people who actually live here & I agree with Urmstongran......Well done Boris ,we voted democratically for Brexit so ‘Bring it on’!!!

So why does Trump think he has a right to comment? Why aren't people telling him to push off, like they did when Obama gave his opinion of Brexit?

SirChenjin, Johnson is a BSer extraordinaire, but I've never seen any evidence of intelligence. PS. I did Latin at school, too, and it was known that if you wanted to get into Oxford, it was one of the easiest subjects to apply for.

Re trump more people voted for Hilary Clinton than for him. But the way the US system works he still won.
Re Boris. Around 94,000 conservative party members voted for him, hardly a huge mandate!

L iving in France with many French friends and others of diverse nationalities I have yet to meet one person who thinks Boris is anything but a joke and are amazed/appalled/cannot understand how he has reached this position. The international community put him in the same bracket as the Donald. Very scary.

As for the ludicrous suggestion that us expats don't moan about the governments we live with, well I can just imagine the outcry if we did! It's totally irrelevant in this instance.

Some posters may think Jura is being melodramatic, she makes some very salient points. Maybe us expats are more broadminded and internationally thinking and so see the bigger picture instead of the tunnel vision of insularity.

A chance to do what? Bankrupt us with his bung to people earning £80k a year? Drag us out of the EU with no deal into the mother and father of recessions? Sell the NHS off to his American buddies?

Fortunately, I believe his term of office as PM will be the shortest in history. When there are Tory MPs willing to vote to bring his government down and he has a majority, including the DUP, of two, I don’t think his chances are great.

I would change that slightly to "Individuals of a political party", not an individual as leader of that party (though his/her personality may have influenced the voters to some extent.) Those individuals then vote for the person that they, individually, would prefer to be the leader. They after all, are the ones who will be "managed" by their leader, and if one is imposed on them whom they are reluctant to accept, there will be friction.

If the leader of the country were chosen individually, there is a danger that personal charisma and/or influence with the media could take over than real leadership qualities.

Evidence of that is easy to find.
