So it's Boris

I know we knew this would happen but it didn't stop my heart sinking when it was confirmed. It's not even about party politics. It's about him. The country is in such a terrible position and the thought of him being the one trying to solve all the problems is farcical at best and utterly depressing.

I'm not fed up with doom, gloom and scaremongering. I'm fed up with the causes of doom, gloom and scaremongering. Watching a clown perform pranks might be a temporary distraction, but won't do anything to alleviate the causes.

Lancslass1 Wed 24-Jul-19 21:56:42

Maybe Boris has some solutions,Growstuff.
Give the fellow a chance.
If he fails to do something by the end of October then I will concede you were proved to be right.

trisher Wed 24-Jul-19 21:58:34

Boris peddles optimism whilst secretly conferring with the ERG and wondering if he can manage to keep the public fooled while he quietly slips into a no-deal Brexit, opens up the NHS to Trump and the US and feeds the poor GM food and US chlorinated chicken. But hey he's such a funny chap!

GrannyGravy13 Wed 24-Jul-19 22:06:43

trisher check where your pension fund is invested, unfortunately money is still "what makes the world go round"

Stella14 Wed 24-Jul-19 22:09:34

Day6 Do you actually know anything about Marxism? Do you understand the premise of Socialism? I fear you are just regurgitating lines from the tabloids! hmm

trisher Wed 24-Jul-19 22:15:47

GrannyGravy13 I don't have much of a pension fund. And what I am talking about isn't investment which can be ethical but financial speculation which never is but makes fortunes for some people.

growstuff '. I'm fed up with the causes of doom, gloom and scaremongering. '

and were do you get this certainty from- much of it has already happened!

I understand why some posters have expressed hope that he may turn out to be a satisfactory or even good Prime Minister, have suggested that everyone should wait and see and that he should be given a chance. I would point out that his track record as the Mayor of London and then as Foreign Secretary is rather less than glorious. He seems to be a serial epitome of the Peter Principle.

maddy629 Wed 24-Jul-19 22:52:26

Minniemoo I'm with you, I think he'll be great.

maddy629 Wed 24-Jul-19 23:05:04

I voted for Boris and I am pleased he won. The majority voted to leave the EU, let's hope Boris can deliver on his promise and get us out, it's probably the remainers who are mad that he was elected.

jura2 Wed 24-Jul-19 23:10:22

All the indications show clearly, that those who voted 'Leave' will be the very ones to suffer the most.

Hattiehelga Thu 25-Jul-19 00:04:06

Gonegirl, not instigating argument in any way at all. Just hope you will think again before seemingly thinking that reaching eighty means we are past it. Still, you have decided not to revisit so I guess that is your opinion.

Callistemon Thu 25-Jul-19 00:13:23

Hattiehelga have you misunderstood what Gonegirl meant or have you been believing Tillybelle's rather nasty and erroneous post about her?

Sandiiee Thu 25-Jul-19 00:33:50

Jura2 Please explain "that those who voted 'Leave'
will be the very ones to suffer most"

Minniemoo Thu 25-Jul-19 01:29:00

Yep, Sandiiee, I was wondering about that rather cryptic comment.

growstuff Thu 25-Jul-19 02:41:27

What is there to wonder about? It's obvious to most people who will suffer most (apart from those who really couldn't care about others). It hardly needs spelling out.

craftyone Thu 25-Jul-19 06:32:04

Stella, I know about actually living in a marxist country from my family, who were forced labour in russia, They hated communism with a vengeance, try the practicality before spouting theory. It was a vile regime, they actually lived in it, not reading about it from a book. It caused so much damage to every family, except the rich at the top who still benefit today

crystaltipps Thu 25-Jul-19 06:37:52

I’m looking forward to the wholesome family photo of him outside no 10 with his children / wives etc.

gmarie Thu 25-Jul-19 06:39:31

Well said, Tisher: Trump gets things done - really!? No wall built, no real policy or results on limiting immigration (apart from locking up children), no big economic deals. In fact nothing at all apart from insisting he has made America great again...

Amen. Also, NO reputable news source or political commentator feels he's been successful at anything other than Tweeting, talking about himself, and making rash decisions based on his own ego and need to be "popular" with his base.

He's STILL talking about the election and doing "campaign" rallies 2 and a half years later for heaven's sake. Yes, he speaks his mind, but even in that regard, he's a hypocrite. To be clear, I disagree with his politics, but I respect many people with divergent views. 99.9% of my dislike of him has to do with him as a person.

craftyone Thu 25-Jul-19 06:39:45

its the Brits living in europe who are scared, not us patriots who have remained here through thick and thin. The most sacred squeak loudest and longest, as we know

craftyone Thu 25-Jul-19 06:41:18

haha, of course it was scared not sacred

Urmstongran Thu 25-Jul-19 07:06:23

I think jura means us poor people. Those who don’t have a portfolio of shares to cushion the economic blow that Brexit will (maybe, possibly, might, could) hit us with.

So many Remainers bang on saying ‘they didn’t vote to be poorer’. Punters on Sky News (the glum buckets anyway) say it all the time. But actually we sort of did. We poorer ones had almost nothing to lose anyway. The Project Fear on Steroids at the time of the referendum brought out so many experts who told us there’d be an immediate recession, sterling would tank, job losses would be huge, each person in the U.K. would personally ‘lose’ £5,000 - yet we STILL voted Leave!

No wonder it was such a seismic shock to the elites

crystaltipps Thu 25-Jul-19 07:21:52

Not all remainers are elites and not all elites are remainers, so not sure who “the elites” are . Just one of those meaningless soundbites.

Shropshirelass Thu 25-Jul-19 08:07:49

All I said when it was announced (not a surprise) was God Help Us! A man who is a baffoon, can't answer a question, lies through his back teeth and is an embarrassment to the country. No wonder Trump likes him, two of a kind.

craftyone Thu 25-Jul-19 08:22:21

ooh I do hope he is like Trump, Trump gets things done and unemployment has fallen
