I saw this article today -

www.msn.com/en-gb/news/royal-family/meghan-and-harrys-neighbours-given-rules-on-how-to-act-near-the-royal-couple/ar-AAEWck4?ocid=spartanntp

It seemed an over the top briefing to me but the thing that stumped me was that you cant pat their dogs if they approach you\??????

Do we bow? ( wow wow :-) )

The briefing was not something the royal couple had knowledge of apparently, just an estate manager explaining how to welcome 'new neighbours' .

I'm of the opinion if the dogs are not aggressive then Id pat and if they are aggressive why are they running loose?

What are your thoughts? To pat or not to pat ?

Pantglas1 Sat 27-Jul-19 12:47:38

Never pat a strange dog, you don’t know its temperament.

grannyqueenie Sat 27-Jul-19 12:55:05

Maybe the dog guidelines are in advance of a royal visit to a branch of JL? smilesmile

Iam64 Sat 27-Jul-19 13:11:10

My thoughts are I'm finding the constant criticism of this young couple a tad tedious. Not suggesting your being critical NannandGrampy but its curious that some random estate manager has made these suggestions without the knowledge of Meghan or Harry

One of Princess Anne's dogs bit someone...a bull terrier called Dotty, if I remember correctly. Perhaps they just want to avoid something similar happening with their dogs.

lemongrove Sat 27-Jul-19 13:20:01

That sounds about right Rosie and is probably the reason.

lemongrove Sat 27-Jul-19 13:20:42

I never pat strange dogs anyway, not sensible.

Hetty58 Sat 27-Jul-19 13:22:05

I think that they are perfectly reasonable requests. I really don't like people touching my dog without asking (what if she nipped them?) and I'm sure that they don't want to be pestered by 'well wishers' either. The rules make it clear to other residents exactly what behaviour is expected, avoiding any future embarrassment.

MiniMoon Sat 27-Jul-19 13:23:04

I don't pat a dog I don't know. I always ask the owner first. You don't know how a dog will react to a stranger, so it's wise to be wary.

EllanVannin Sat 27-Jul-19 13:29:50

No, I'd never approach a strange dog let alone pat it.
Children for instance aren't always kind to dogs---pulled hair/tail etc. and if a dog was to turn on a child or even an adult a lawsuit would arise, so leave well alone.

SirChenjin Sat 27-Jul-19 13:34:30

Don’t pay the dog is just one instruction - the list of dos and don’ts also includes -
Don't approach or instigate conversation if you see them
Do say 'Good Morning' or some other pleasantry if they speak to you
Don't pet or stroke their dogs, even if they come over to you
Don't offer to walk their dogs
Don't ask to see baby Archie or offer to babysit
Don't post anything through the letterbox of Frogmore Cottage

It may be that H&M know nothing about this, but if they have approved it - holy moly! shockgrin

merlotgran Sat 27-Jul-19 13:38:00

I would never pat a strange dog unless I am having a conversation with the owner and the dog appears friendly. I always talk to the dog before touching it.

I read the article earlier this morning and thought it was daft because anyone living on any of the royal estates (more than likely members of staff) knows how to behave if they encounter them while out for a walk.

In H&M's case though it's probably wise to avert your eyes, lower your head and continue on your humble way grin

We should ask phoenix what to do because IIRC she used to live in a grace and favour apartment on the Windsor estate.

merlotgran Sat 27-Jul-19 13:43:57

Don't ask to see baby Archie or offer to babysit

I love that one grin and

probably not a good idea to wear one of these

SirChenjin Sat 27-Jul-19 14:03:11

grinmerlot

If I got one of those lists from H&M I’d send them one right back with instructions on how to behave around the Chen’s grin

lemongrove Sat 27-Jul-19 14:11:48

Am musing on ‘some other pleasantry’ if you encounter them......’alright mate?’ ‘Hot enough for you?!’ ‘How’s Granny?’
I expect the residents living nearby don’t need a list on how to behave.

SueDonim Sat 27-Jul-19 14:16:11

I wonder what happens if anyone should disobey. Will they get banged up in the Tower until they've learnt the error of their ways? grin

My dd's friends were walking in the hills round here when a little dog ran over to them. The owner called the dog back and apologised for its behaviour. It was only when the owner had gone that dd's friends realised it was the Queen! She was all alone, out for a stroll with her dog. smile

crazyH Sat 27-Jul-19 14:20:11

Oh I'm sure there were bodyguards and security hiding in the bushes, ready to pounce

NanaandGrampy Sat 27-Jul-19 14:25:52

I did wonder what would happen if you broke the rules ?

.Orf with your head ?

SueDonim Sat 27-Jul-19 14:30:04

There aren't any bushes in that terrain, just heather, heather and more heather. grin But yes, there will have been security, of course. It's just very discreet - maybe snipers with bunches of heather on their heads, peering round granite boulders!

SirChenjin Sat 27-Jul-19 14:50:59

It must be the day for instructions - the odious JRM has issued the following list of banned words www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.bbc.co.uk/news/amp/uk-49137619 which includes the use of imperial rather than metric measurements

hmm

sodapop Sat 27-Jul-19 15:00:45

It is reported that this list was issued by an over zealous official without the knowledge of Harry & Meghan. Oh yeah confused

SirChenjin Sat 27-Jul-19 15:19:55

Hmmm - I wonder?! Presumably a fulsome letter of apology from H&M has been issued to those neighbours? hmm

NanaandGrampy Sat 27-Jul-19 16:36:10

Is it just me or when receiving a list of instructions on behaviours such as these I have the sudden urge to do the exact opposite ????

lemongrove Sat 27-Jul-19 16:40:17

Nope, it’s not just you! ??

NanaandGrampy Sat 27-Jul-19 16:44:20

well at least we can keep each other company in The Tower then Lemongrove :-)
