Many like me are not in the least surprised that the EU itself and Remainers (in parliament) are deliberately making our exit long-drawn out and difficult. If we didn't prepare for a no deal exit we'd be very foolish.

Jura are you seriously telling me that seasoned, experienced MP's with 40 years of dealing with the EU, weren't just a little bit circumspect and blindly believed all they were told and then signed something into law without doing just a little bit of research?!!!! What complete rubbish!!! They did this to fool their constituents into believing that they the MP's were honouring the vote in order to keep their seats! In fact what they WERE planning was to play for time in the hopes that public opinion would change and another referendum would bring brexit down! If that's not deceitful, I don't know what is!

A few analogies have been used on this thread (house/car buying) which to my mind haven’t properly explained the Brexit dilemma, so I’ll give a another.

My husband was employed at a fairly high level in the building trade and was well rewarded - generous pension contribution, company car, bonuses etc.

However, after 35 years of being told what to do, when to do it and working 12 hour days with ever increasing bureaucracy and H&S demands, he decided to retire.

He then worked as a self employed jobbing builder for 5 years on less money, no company car/pension/bonuses etc but the difference in happiness was such that everyone commented on it.

He chose the jobs he wanted to do, had prompt paying customers, mostly older folks who were glad of a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay and never once had to advertise, all word of mouth and repeat custom.

When I asked him which was his best ever job, he insists it was the self employed role where there was less hassle. So maybe that is why the remainers will never see why the leavers want to leave - you’ve been institutionalised folks!

And being beholden to the US is less hassle and less institutionalised? Sorry, I don't see it.

I agree that it is good to be self-employed as I was for the last fifteen years of my career and my husband was for all but the first few years of his career.

As self employed professionals (in quite different professions) we relied heavily on a network of professional contacts in allied professions and businesses.. These networks rely on trust and mutual respect for each other's' skills and the knowledge that we were interdependent and working together we could achieve far more than we ever could on our own.

That is why we voted REMAIN. We strongly believe in the wonderful benefits of the UK being a member of the EU, which exists for the mutual benefit of all its members and is the world's biggest and most successful trading block.

Pantglas I am happy that your DH is content in his job, but he is able to potter around doing small jobs as he chooses, lucky man, because he knows he has the security of a decent large company pension to look forward to when he decides to retire, plus those pesky H & S rules ensured that he left his employer fit and able to take on more work, so please do not trot out the 'elf and safety' moans as a reason for leaving the EU. So really your comparison does not work. I certainly do not consider myself institutionalised, far from it, I made a considered decision and decided that we were better off inside changing rules instead of outside being subjected to them. I have never thought of the EU as perfect, far from it, but if we wish to trade with Europe we will still have to abide by the rules so think we are better in. I am terrified at the thought of my future being in the hands of the increasingly deranged individual in the White House, apart of course, from personal distaste at having to deal with a racist and molester.

Global trading requires more than business solely btwn the UK and the USA. It does mean we can choose our business partners though and trade with the world without EU restriction.

Remainers will be telling us next that we'll have to adopt the star-spangled banner when we abandon the Union Jack. It's all going to happen when we aren't required to pay Brussels and the EU billions of our pounds every year.....sigh.

The problem for me is that while the Leavers may have a legitimate point of view (although I don't agree with it) they then lie in order to make out that only they are right. It is simply not true that this will all be cost free, that it is easy, that it will be quick. There is a huge cost in evolved in all that will happen if we leave and an even bigger one if we leave with no deal. That cost is likely to include many people's livelihood and, for some, what they have built up over their entire lives. Doing it is one thing; the pretence that it comes at no human or economic cost is despicable. No one has been able to show that it is quick to do, economically sensible, or simple.

Mad fool that he is, Johnson clowns around and tells us all to be happy facing this, to be positive and up-beat. His aspiration to be another Churchill surely dies with these lies and presences. This is the most difficult event since the last war when Churchill bravely set out what was to come. he told it how it was. Blood, sweat, toil and tears. But of course, he could, he didn't inflict it on our nation as the Leavers are doing.

Leaflet a bit late now. The decision has been made just get on with it regardless. We will have to face what comes,this Limbo is costing jobs and the adversely affecting our economy. Boris, I haven't much time for, but if he pulls it off it will be a relief to put it mildly.

David Cameron was heavily criticised by the brexiters for spending £9m of taxpayers money on a leaflet explaining why we should Remain in the EU.

Now, three years later, these same brexiters are proposing to spend no less than £100m of taxpayers money on a leaflet giving their reasons to justify brexit.

Am I the only one who thinks this cannot possibly be right? £100m is an obscene amount of taxpayers' money to be spent on party political propaganda, .Is this even legal? Can it be stopped?

Not sure I understand your argument Varian - are you saying it was ok for remain camp to spend millions on a leaflet, but not for leave camp to do the same?

Listening to Cummings and his statement that the Tories care neither for the NHS or the poor, it is becoming clear that the Tories will never spend much money on either.

They will however throw money like confetti on their ideological vanity projects like Brexit because they and their wealthy supporters like the hedge fund managers and disaster capitalist who are advise by such companies that Mogg, Redwood etc. run, will make vast amounts from speculation.

The poor and not so poor will never profit from Brexit no matter what the propaganda tells us.

We may achieve that notion of sovereignty, - a notion that has never been understood by those voting leave, but who find it an attractive concept to wave as a reason, but in fact the only difference 90% of the country will recognise is that they are poorer and the economy is struggling.
