This morning at Gatwick.

The pound is at parity with the dollar. This has NEVER happened in its history.

The pound is worth now about 87p against the euro.

The implication for the economy is dire.

Crossed posts, Barmeyoldbat!

Day6 Tue 30-Jul-19 19:04:09

Day6, us retainers don't have to do anything to make you look stupid, you are doing that all on your own

How very mature of you Barmeyoldbat

And yet all I have written is substantiated on line. Just because you do not like it, or those who voted to Leave the EU, you choose to insult me. Who looks foolish, eh?

Day6 Tue 30-Jul-19 19:12:11

Thanks Lemon

If posters can accept there are two camps as far as leaving the EU is concerned, they would not have to rely on insulting those who look at things differently.

Lessismore Tue 30-Jul-19 19:13:22

Ah Day 6 , I see you are playing the old ..." Well Labour are baddies" card.

lemon, don't lecture on civility.

GrannyGravy13 Quote [ Our suppliers have given us assurances that there will be little or no disruption to supply chain (these are extremely big multi nationals)] End Quote.

GrannyGravy13, your suppliers are making a rediculas statement in the above. No matter how large they are they do not control the flow of vehicles through the ports and therefore any delays that may occur due to checks having to be carried out due to Brexit.

The situation is in the Road Haulage Industry that many very experienced HGV drivers carrying out Continental operations are stating that they do not wish to do those journeys should Brexit mean they will be sitting in their cabs going nowhere for days on end.

Further to the above, Britain has a shortage of nearly fifty thousand truck drivers according to many estimates, so alternative HGV owner driver or employed drivers will be very difficult to find.

Hauliers based in Europe are also stating that they will not be undertaking journeys to Britain if delays start to occur at the ports. No one makes any money from a truck sat doing nothing, and they will still have twenty-seven other countries in the European Union they can operate in.

Therefore and as stated, for your suppliers to state that "no delays will occur in their supply chain to your business" GrannyGravy13 is totally and absolutely rediculas.

You may get better advice by looking on the Road Haulage Association website, where as we run-up to the 31st of October the latest news will be available.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 30-Jul-19 19:17:22

Grandad you are obviously not aware of the Statement by the Mayor of Calais.

You do not know my business or my suppliers, please do not lecture me on a company that has been successful for over 40 years.

lemongrove Tue 30-Jul-19 19:19:24

Lessismore, why not? Some need a lecture on civility where Brexit posts are concerned.

lemongrove Tue 30-Jul-19 19:21:32

Day6 I think that some posters imagine that because they are angry about leaving the EU they can say anything at all to others.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 30-Jul-19 19:21:58

Lemongrove I am beginning to think that those who voted leave are going to be on the receiving end of lots of things in the coming months.

lemongrove Tue 30-Jul-19 19:23:50

It’s been going on for three years GG13

EllanVannin Tue 30-Jul-19 19:35:33

Putin must be rubbing his hands over an imminent Western Alliance split.
We can't afford to lose support from the EU especially when it comes to military ties aside of the Brexit vote.
BJ isn't doing this country any favours at all----the idiot !
What he thinks he's justifying is beyond me as his hostility towards Europe is a disgrace.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 30-Jul-19 19:41:26

Lemongrove the insults work ways.

Barmeyoldbat Tue 30-Jul-19 19:45:04

Get use to it Lemongrove, more flax will coming your way as we go down the pan because of Brexit.

Grandad1943 Tue 30-Jul-19 19:46:19

GrannyGravy13, All businesses will be affected should delays start to occur through the ports.

It matters little what your business is, or who your suppliers are, or what the Mayor of Calais has stared. The simple fact is that the European Union will have to protect itself from goods entering the EU that do not meet their standards following a no-deal Brexit.

Therfore checks will have to be made on their side of the Channel and at the Irish border and tariffs levied. Even if the UK does not impose checks on the British side of those Borders delays will still occur to the vehicles going out and as those trucks operate on a round trip JIT basis disruption will still in all probability be widespread.

There is also the situation that if the UK does not impose checks and tariffs on freight arriving into Britain, businesses will find themselves paying millions in tariffs on their goods going into Europe, while European based businesses will pay nothing on their goods entering Britain. A huge commercial advantage to them.

So, I will continue to point out rediculas statements where I perceive them GrannyGravy13 whether you appreciate that or not.

Start stocking up the Brexit cupboards again. grin

From the Guardian today 'Johnson adviser said Tories do not care about poor people or NHS '

yes, we have noticed- the proof is in the pudding and GN.

Grandad1943 Tue 30-Jul-19 19:47:46

Apologies, should be "stated" above not "stared"

Barmeyoldbat Tue 30-Jul-19 19:48:34

Well said Grandad, a bit of sense at last.

lemongrove Tue 30-Jul-19 19:50:29

Well, if I get lots of flax Barmey I can do a bit of weaving.

Lessismore Tue 30-Jul-19 20:01:26

lemon, who do you feel would benefit from your lessons in civility please?

GrannyGravy13 Tue 30-Jul-19 20:13:23

There is a very old saying “ Fail to prepare- Prepare to Fail”

Better to be pro-active and actually do something, surely?

petra Tue 30-Jul-19 20:22:41

momof3
You mentioned the subsidies (CAP) that our farmers receive.
Would it surprise you to know that the farmers voted to leave.
More or less the same result 53% to leave.https://www.fwi.co.uk/news/farmer-support-brexit-strong-ever-fw-poll-reveals

crystaltipps Tue 30-Jul-19 20:31:31

I think small farmers were persuaded by the leave propaganda that we wouldn’t be leaving without a great deal. Now it appears that was lies. No wonder they are up in arms.

Open Europes Pieter Clepp talking to Al Jazeera claimed that the eu could 'dump Dublin' also, that the people of the republic are turning against Varadker.

growstuff Tue 30-Jul-19 20:52:26

Open Europe is a euro-sceptic think tank.

Grandad1943 Tue 30-Jul-19 20:54:37

I am sure that many will remember David Davis the first Brexit secretary stating on the day that article fifty was signed, "these will be the easiest negotiations ever concluded."

The European Union would fall over backwards to give Britain anything it wanted according to the leavers. They needed us more than we need them, it was being said.

It turned out that this shambles of a government did not even understand the treaties that formed the basis of the European Union and to which Britain had freely signed up to.

Therefore we have spent three years demanding leave terms from the EU that they are unable to grant due to the rules that the United Kingdom played a large part in formulating with the other twenty-seven nations.

What a joke.
