I think they are still popular, many like ‘celebrities.
So sad I’ve nearly finished last Jilly Cooper
Reading on the BBC News page that Harry is less popular since booking up with Megan. I thought I liked Megan and that she would be a calming influence but now I think she’s influencing him to a ridiculous degree and they are both behaving like Hollywood divas. What are your thoughts?
I think they are still popular, many like ‘celebrities.
growstuff I agree in part.
I think the wider RF provide a valuable service and in general visits like that bring cheer to those in need.
However, some of HM's homes are privately owned. The dilapidated Buckingham Palace is just the office of state and I don't think the taxpayer funds their private holidays.
Farage was completely out of order.
Just imagine what the country would be like with him as President!
However, I do recognise hypocrisy when I see it, dislike it and Harry has fallen into that trap.
My adult children aren't perfect. I love them to distraction. Do they do everything we expect of the young Royals, who are of similar age? No they don't. In fact, other than not being so rich they don't need to consider the cost of their holidays, clothes etc, they live their lives to the full. They';re off on holidays abroad with their children this year. They drive cars, one of them drives a gas guzzler. Could they be more perfect, more aware of their use of the world's resources. Yes, I expect they could.
I can get wound up about all kinds of injustices, as posts I make here will show. Get wound up about Meghan and Harry? Give me a bliddy break. Life is far too short. They're young in comparison with those of us posting. They will no doubt live to regret some of their actions, as no doubt we have, although there do seem to be some contributors who are like Mary Poppins, simply perfect in every way and so well able to sit in judgement on people they don't know, nor do they care about.
As you now judge posters Iam,
You told me me what I did and what we all do Bridgeit - you were not speaking for yourself.
But yes, back to the OP - they are not that young, they’re in their mid to late thirties - hardly naive youngsters. They are also surrounded by advisers and very experienced members of the RF who have been in this game for a long time so hardly without people who can have a quiet word in their respective ears about the absurdity of preaching about environmental issues while flying about the place in a private jet. You’d have to be extremely stupid not to see how ridiculous that looks.
Oh good heavens, I’ve only just started reading this thread and already it’s 7 pages long. Well anyway, I’m going to comment on the first page of comments, and then read the rest. Absolutely spot on SirChenjin and Day6. And also Namsnanny, exactly.
The problem has arisen I believe, because there is a huge element with Harry and Meghan of do as I say, not as I do. For example, we are encouraged by H+M to cut back on our carbon footprint, which is commendable. But reality bites, and we discover that both H+M have taken private jets in the last few days. Meghan used a private flight on her way home from her vulgar baby shower. And apparently Andrew used a private jet to fly back to London from Balmoral only yesterday. These double standards are what is causing the criticism in my opinion.
Andrew and Fergie have since taken a flight on a private jet to Malaga for their holiday.
It really doesn't matter what we say or think. They're not interested because they can afford to do what they like.
Security? Well, that's for us plebs to fund.
It doesn't matter how unpopular the Royals become, whether they be adulterers, associated with child traffickers, entering into dodgy deals by using their Royal status or just don't conform as in Megan and Harry are doing etc. etc .They still remain on the civil list, spending tax-payers' money to allow them to live their lavish lifestyles and this is what we all should be protesting about.
I'm going to say it again: I object to people who are extremely privileged lecturing an ordinary person such as myself . People who can buy anything they want, go on holiday to places I shall never see, spend huge amounts on renovating a ' cottage ' , are so ' woke ' that they are laughable . If they quietly got on with their lives I wouldn't be so flipping mad at them, but they don't. Instead they lecture me and you. The result is that I can't watch any of them on television as quite frankly they are bad for my health.
I am fed up with the ‘they are in love, they are young’,
They are where they are to serve the country not lecture us , if they want to ‘do politics’, give up the privileges and go into
politics.
Quite right Annie and Loislovesstewie.
They appear to be in love, I’m pleased Harry has found someone to be with, but they are definitely not young. I was married at 21, that’s young (I didn’t think so then ?) but Meghan is 38 and Harry 34, so not young (although younger than all us grannies.) They need to give up the virtue signalling and lecturing, we all know that climate change is important and needs addressing, but none of us mere mortals need to be lectured from two people who are so advantaged that they can afford to jet set about in private jets! People who can barely manage their one holiday a year and can only afford to travel in an overstuffed Ryanair or EasyJet plane must look at these two and feel disgusted.
I really liked Harry when he was a soldier, I think he would have done well to have found another job, like William did, after he left the forces. William trained and worked on the air ambulances, Harry could have done something similar, and he would have retained his respect from the public.
H+M keep saying they are shielding Archie and want him to have a normal life. That is important because Archie will be a long way from the throne by the time he is an adult, but with two parents who don’t work, I’m afraid they are not going to be setting him very good role models.
To be honest, I feel that all the queen’s children should either be VERY active as royals, such as Princess Anne, or they should get a job. Prince Andrew is another one who cares not a jot for climate change, has no proper job, and feels himself, and his daughters, to be unjustifiably entitled.
If you are someone who is prone to standing up in a public arena to deliver a speech on say the environment, then it's kind of inevitable that you will have your own modes of transport examined and indeed every foot of your carbon footprint. People can of course care deeply and in a quiet way do what they can behind the scenes, without such conspicuous largesse. Somehow there's a massive disconnect between the preachy messaging and then finding out how such advocates of caring for the environment actually travel themselves. I believe William and Kate have taken scheduled flights as indeed heads of state have done. The use of a private jet cranks up an individual's carbon footprint enormously and maybe if Harry hadn't made the massive faux pas of addressing the fatuous Google whatever, trips like the Ibiza one would have slipped under the radar without comment. Now he's a sitting duck, it goes with the territory of pontificating.
“Do as I say and not as I do” (because I am mega rich and very important and I can do as I please).
Oh dear ... and I read online this morning that H&M have jetted off to the South of France in another private jet. Where is their commonsense?
They could have saved the country a lot of money and bought a camper instead of moving to Frogmore.
They'll just carry on pleasing themselves because nothing will be done about their hypocritical behaviour. Charles is just as bad with his creature comforts and has always indulged his sons and H&M's adoring fans will still turn out and wave/fawn/drool/whatever.
They're doing the Royals a favour at the moment though by taking the heat off Andy.
What a disappointing shower they're turning out to be.
H&M have jetted off to the South of France in another private jet.
Appears to be true.
Don't they read Gransnet?
Iam64

Charles has always holidayed in Scotland
I wouldn't like to take a new baby on a plane.
No problem flying with a newborn, we flew when one of ours was 15 days, woke baby up to feed for taking off and landing, slept the whole flight.
Harry and Meghan intend to save the planet, as long as they can travel there by private jet in designer clothes to do it!
The staff will be taking care of the baby - although a private jet with a baby will be very different to an EasyJet flight with hundred other screaming kids I’m sure
Well good for you GG. I am often mildly unwell after flying....something to do with the air quality.
That is my opinion which I believe I am at liberty to express.
Lessismore Apologies if you felt I was niggling at your post.
Ours was a Monarch Scheduled flight, yes it had its quota of children but fortunately no screamers.
I wonder who is “leaking” H &
Ms travel details, are they deliberately stirring up trouble. We do not know how the trip was funded, it may be out of Harry’s inheritance?
