This will go straight into the " out " basket !
Since when has the government listened to its people ?

EllanVannin Mon 19-Aug-19 13:09:46

Shredder.

Nonnie Mon 19-Aug-19 13:14:29

Ellan maybe but those of us who think no deal would be disastrous for the country should do everything we can to prevent it. I would even vote JC in as temporary PM which shows how strongly I feel about it!

Lessismore Mon 19-Aug-19 13:18:15

Sorry, am I right in thinking they have all gone off on holiday , while we go down like rats on a sinking ship?

GagaJo Mon 19-Aug-19 13:48:42

Lessismore exactly. With the comforting buffer of hereditary wealth and offshore accounts to protect them from the worst effects.

EllanVannin Mon 19-Aug-19 13:52:30

Nonnie I had the same train of thought as yourself by voting JC in next time, against my better judgement of course, but for the same reason as yourself.

Lessismore Mon 19-Aug-19 14:03:43

Sorry to ask such a seemingly foolish question, but in the interests of self preservation I am avoiding the news.

POGS Mon 19-Aug-19 14:07:22

Question.

There are 16 days left before Parliament reopens.

How long before the petition is finished to presenting it?

How much would it cost to recall MP's?

Would the government be liable for compensation to MP's and expenses.

I have no idea just asking.

Lessismore Mon 19-Aug-19 14:43:56

Question.

is it a good idea, when the country is staring over a precipice for a load of entitled knobs to lie on a beach in Corsica?

POGS Mon 19-Aug-19 14:54:04

Do you know the answers or not.

I don't.

As for entitled knobs on a beach in Corsica how much would it cost to get them back for ???? Days before they would be back any way.?

It is a genuine question.

GrannyGravy13 Mon 19-Aug-19 14:56:41

Whilst they are on their holidays at least they are not in Parliament causing chaos!!!!!

Lessismore Mon 19-Aug-19 15:22:03

GG, fair point, sadly.

Urmstongran Mon 19-Aug-19 15:31:07

So, in summary, 550 MP's which is a very large majority aren't putting pressure on for a recall.

Caledonai14 Mon 19-Aug-19 15:54:20

Very fair point GG13, but I think we should at least try to get them to stop fiddling while Rome burns.

... or sunburning while Boris diddles.

GagaJo Mon 19-Aug-19 21:41:55

Hahaha Lessismore

Nonnie Tue 20-Aug-19 11:07:47

POGS I suspect the point of the petition is not to recall parliament but to get a message across.

Grandad1943 Tue 20-Aug-19 11:29:45

POGS, for once we agree. It is the government that has to request the Speaker of the House of Commons to recall parliament, and I believe he would then have to request the Monarch in turn.

Even then having gained the Queen's agreement, a period of at least five days would have to be granted prior to Parliment assembling to allow MPs who may be out of the country to return.

I can see little point in carrying out all the above when by the time all the foregoing was completed the MPs would be within days of returning anyway.

Dinahmo Tue 20-Aug-19 11:53:32

Which knobs are on holiday in Corsica. I tried googling but without success.

humptydumpty Tue 20-Aug-19 12:08:02

Apologies in advance for my ignorance, but when is the next session due to start?

BTW, just signed the petition, now at 38,918 signatures; governemnt respons if more thn 10,000 and a response has been awaited for 1 day now...

Lessismore Tue 20-Aug-19 12:08:12

What did you google? Knobs on a beach?

GagaJo Tue 20-Aug-19 12:25:42

Lessismore, are you this funny IRL?

growstuff Tue 20-Aug-19 13:24:40

3 September I think.

growstuff Tue 20-Aug-19 13:27:05

Did you know that there's a place in Kentucky called Twin Knobs Beach? I didn't. You learn something every day.

Dinahmo Tue 20-Aug-19 13:27:19

No - perhaps I should have. Might then have found out.
