Chinese buying up all the baby milk !

I saw it with my own eyes yesterday as DD and I were in Boots (Newcastle) looking for baby milk and baby juice. My Dd has told me in the past that she has struggled to find milk in town and that the shelves are often bare and she often has to try quite a few different shops before finding any.

Yesterday I questioned an assistant and she told me “oh don’t get me started, I could stock the shelves to the top right now (if we had any) and the Chinese would come in and buy it all. We have had to limit the milk to 10 boxes per person but they come in 6 and 8 at a time and take the maximum amount per person , meaning that people like your daughter cannot even get one box.....ditto the special baby juices”

Apparently they send it all back to China . There is a large Chinese population in Newcastle and this is becoming common place in most of the shops that stock baby products. I had to hear it with my own ears and see it to believe it ! shock

Thankfully Evie is only having one bed time bottle a day now which is just as well. Not sure they can do about it ? Making the limits per person 2 or 3 instead of 10 might be a good start though.

To be honest, if I had enough contacts, I'd be a daigua. Gotta be easier than fighting my way through a teaching day.

M and S branded baby milk ? No
Waitrose ? No ( tried yesterday)
Fenwicks food ? You having a laugh? No
Sainsbury’s local ? Erm no .

Pathetic ! I am sooooo glad I started this thread ! Keep it coming Mrs Kia I’m loving it !

Mrs Kia?

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 14:41:31

What a fabulous teacher you must be too GagaJo confused

'ang on - where's that clapping emoji.

Ah, can't get it. I'm on desktop.

Wilkos sell Cow& Gate , Aptamil and SMA

Despite your opinion gillybob I've been popular with my students on 3 continents. I'm usually awash with end of year gifts, even in the cash strapped uk.

I don't discriminate based on ethnicity either.

GagaJo Sat 31-Aug-19 14:45:35

Ooooh trisher, watch out!

GagaJo Sat 31-Aug-19 14:46:39

I'm assuming Mrs Kia is some sort of racist nickname. Fortunately for you, I'm being a bit dim as to meaning...

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 14:49:20

Well that’s great ! So glad for you . I was brought up to believe that self praise was really no praise at all, but crack on .

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 14:49:52

You assumed wrong ! I am not racist !

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 14:50:51

A dim teacher ? Oh dear, surely not ?

SueDonim Sat 31-Aug-19 14:51:45

Why not ask your local pharmacy to order it in for you? You could place a weekly order with them. I've also suggested ordering online or moving the child over to cow's milk.

I suspect you don't want solutions, though, Gillybob. You just want to rant about the unfairness of people doing something that they're perfectly entitled to do.

GagaJo Sat 31-Aug-19 14:52:18

Not at all. I was just responding to your insult.

I'm not up on racial epithets unfortunately, never having recourse to them.

GagaJo Sat 31-Aug-19 14:54:10

I'm Wechatting my contacts now Sue. I can see my being able to end teaching earlier! I'm English so I'm assuming I can buy all of Newcastles baby milk with impunity.

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 14:54:42

Guess what SueDonim it was never about a solution . I was just presenting an issue, a fact , you know as you do in conversation . Today I have been to another small town and managed to buy a box without too much of a problem . I shouldn’t really have to do that though should I ?

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 14:56:06

Maybe best try another town Gaga. The Chinese have got Newcastle pretty much stitched up !

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 14:56:45

Let’s hope you are successful anyway . smile

trisher Sat 31-Aug-19 14:58:41

My local Sainsbury's was out of Halloumi the other week. Anyone know who is buying it? Or is it the beginning of Brexit (I now claim the prize for managing to get Brexit into this thread!!)

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 15:02:08

Oh you poor dear trisher how on earth will you get through the weekend ? I hope it doesn’t mean you'll be up all night screaming the house down! Could you not have found some breastfeeding earth mother to make you some? I’ve heard it’s perfectly possible.

SueDonim Sat 31-Aug-19 15:03:02

Gullybob, you're the one that raised the spectre of starvation with your 'starving' comment to Gagjo. That would seem to require a solution. Now you've said that your dd has got formula anyway, so what is the issue with other people doing something that is perfectly legal?

GagaJo Sat 31-Aug-19 15:04:50

Lol. I thought about dragging Brexit in. But didn't want to be slated for that, too.

Try Benton or Forest Hall next time. Loads of supermarkets. No shortages. At least, not until I get my business up and running!

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 15:05:28

I GOT IT TODAY ! What about next week? The week after ? What about all the other young mothers who are also having problems? And sorry but with a baby yes it is about starving ! Not quite the same as not getting ones halloumi or tea bags is it ?

SueDonim Sat 31-Aug-19 15:05:37

Trisher my son has 14 packs of halloumi in his freezer. It's a seasonal item, only available in summer where he lives so he's stock-piled it for the coming months.

I'd ask him to send you some of his, except he's in America and the halloumi might be rather 'ripe' by the time it arrived at yours! grin

gillybob Sat 31-Aug-19 15:07:23

She works shifts (damned hard) and doesn’t drive GAGa what part of that don’t you get ? And you say your a teacher hmm
